Among the many endeavors into which entrepreneurs might invest their time and effort, few are as rewarding and impactful as a business incubator. Recycling vacant buildings to provide job creators a place to set up shop within a community can boost a local economy and benefit nearly every member of a struggling city, town, or village. The need for hometown, community-centric, job-focused, locally sustainable spaces continues to increase. For a distressed community, an incubator might be the right answer. Buildings That Create Jobs explores the strategy, startup, and operation of business incubators, detailing ways to find, recycle, and fill existing industrial and commercial buildings to create entrepreneurial and artisan opportunities. Since 1959, the Mancuso family has been the touchstone of business incubation. Now, Thomas Mancuso reveals the foundational principles taught to him by his father, Joseph Mancuso, the famed originator of the business incubation concept. After managing more than two million square feet of business incubator and business development real estate, Thomas Mancuso is a leading authority on the practice. You will learn: Why real business incubators work to create jobs and make money. Ways to help ensure the success of businesses within an incubator. How to attract businesses of all sizes from anchor stores to single owners. The financial side of incubators and ways to fund them. The unique advantages of recycled buildings over new construction. How to deliver a value-creating program for your market Ideas to reduce costs while maintaining quality management. And much more! Buildings That Create Jobs offers the Mancuso family's more than 60 years of effort filling buildings with businesses to create prosperity for all involved. Thomas Mancuso is a licensed real estate broker in the state of New York. He has addressed international audiences on business incubators. A graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, he has lived his entire life around industrial and commercial buildings. His company manages projects that range from filling a 680,000 square foot rural factory building to revitalizing an underperforming 16,000 square foot urban project into a profitable small business center.

Greening Industries And Creating Jobs written by Bela Galgoczi and has been published by ETUI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Climatic changes categories.

How the objective of a resource-efficient low carbon economy is to be reached and how the transition is managed are the key issues addressed by this publication. The two main focuses are industrial policy and employment prospects on the road to a green economy that retains its industrial base. Any lasting recovery of the real economy will necessarily take the shape of a more resource-efficient production model. While we argue that only a more ambitious and comprehensive European climate policy framework would have a chance of delivering the broader 2050 climate targets, this does not mean that Europe has to give up its industrial base and its related competences. Several chapters of this book argue that the option of attaining a low-carbon economy through ‘deindustrialisation’ would prevent Europe from preserving its competitiveness and knowledge base, which are also essential for exploiting the potential of the emerging eco-industry. While decoupling economic growth from resource use is also possible with an industrial base that is more energy-and resource-efficient, this does require a fundamental shift in terms of how the economy is managed and how business decisions are made. Sustainable industrial and structural policies are needed also in order to ensure that this revolutionary process takes place in a socially balanced manner.

Showcasing dozens of examples—from office buildings to libraries to hospitals—the authors highlight innovative practies that utilize space to promote creativity and collaboration, improve morale and motivation, and ensure employee health and safety. Featuring over a dozen photographs, practical recommendations, and the tools to conduct a workplace design survey in your own organization, Building Community in Buildings ultimately demonstrates that by investing in spaces that support people needs, companies will strengthen bottom-line results. Building Community in Buildings takes us on a fascinating journey through workplaces large and small, old and new, traditional and contemporary, to explore the dynamic relationships between people and the structures in which they work. Consider that in the 1950s, average North Americans spent approximately 50 percent of their time in buildings, compared to a child born today, who will spend 90 percent of his or her life inside. Clearly and increasingly, our social and cultural relationships are deeply influenced by the physical spaces in which they are created. Jana Kemp and Ken Baker integrate insights from management and building design to reveal new understandings about workplace productivity and performance. Showcasing dozens of examples—from the redesign of the Hood River Library in Oregon (with input from front-line employees) to the creation of open, naturally-lit spaces in Lockheed Building 157 (increasing employee productivity by 15%), the authors highlight innovative practices that utilize space to promote creativity and collaboration, improve morale and motivation, and ensure employee health and safety. They also explore the pros and cons of virtual workplaces, in which people are connected electronically but not physically, and trace the impact and influences of such trends as the green building movement. Featuring over a dozen photographs, practical recommendations, and the tools to conduct a workplace design survey in your own organization, Building Community in Buildings ultimately demonstrates that by investing in spaces that support people needs, companies will strengthen bottom-line results.

Accounting for nearly 40% of global energy-related CO2 emissions and sometimes as much as 70% in large cities, buildings and construction are central to the low-carbon transition. Decarbonising buildings, especially the old stock, through energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy use, not only reduces carbon emissions, but also generates co-benefits in health, energy affordability and the labour market.

Contemporary Issues In Construction In Developing Countries written by George Ofori and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-26 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Economic growth and socio-economic development are particuliarly important for developing countries, and the construction industry plays a central role in driving both of these. Traditionally the issues faced have been assumed to be merely offshoots of those encountered in industrialised nations and are usually discussed only in this context. In addition, research in construction management and economics has generally failed to take proper account of the unique or highly emphasised characteristics of the industries in developing countries, or their economic and social environment. This volume challenges underlying assumptions and focuses on the distinct characteristics of construction in developing countries. In so doing it considers the issues from the perspective of the developing countries themselves to present a strong contemporary picture for researchers. It forms a companion volume to New Perspectives on Construction in Developing Countries which provides an update on the generic subjects relating to the construction industry in developing countries, and covers new concepts and issues.
