Rangkaian kegiatan yang dilaksanakan dikembangkan sedemikian rupa sehingga mampu mencegah kematian atau cacat yang mungkin terjadi dengan menggunakan pendekatan sistem dan holistik termasuk penggunaan teknologi maju. Lingkup bahasan pada buku ajar ini meliputi konsep dasar keperawatan gawat darurat, kegawatdaruratan pada klien dengan gangguan sistem pernapasan dan sistem kardiovaskular. Asuhan kegawatdaruratan kardiopulmonal disajikan berdasarkan contoh kasus yang aktual. Harapannya, hal demikian dapat menambah pengetahuan kepada para pembaca sehingga mampu mengelola asuhan keperawatan klien dengan kondisi kedaruratan dan kegawatan juga mampu menggunakan peralatan khusus untuk melakukan tindakan yang spesifik pada pengelolaan kegawatdaruratan.
