Buku ajar Mikrobiologi Kedokteran tentang Tuberkulosis Diagnostik Mikrobiologis ini penting, karena tuberkulosis menjadi permasalahan kesehatan di berbagai belahan dunia termasuk Indonesia. Problematika tuberkulosis di Indonesia bertambah besar dan mengkhawatirkan dengan muncul dan meningkatnya TB-MDR dan TB-HIV yang menjadi faktor komorbid serta peningkatan mortalitas. Buku ajar ini memaparkan tentang Tuberkulosis ditinjau terutama dari segi diagnostik mikrobiologis yang berguna dalam diagnostik penegakan penyakit tuberkulosis. Penegakan diagnosis penyakit tuberkulosis yang akurat merupakan langkah awal pada penentuan penanganan pasien secara adekuat; dengan demikian diharapkan menurunkan angka morbiditas, mortalitas dan memutus rantai penularan, berbagai faktor ini diharapkan menurunkan prevalensi atau insidens TB. Pada dasarnya diagnostik mikrobiologis meliputi pemahaman karakter bakteri penyebab infeksi, pathogenesis penyakit TB, manifestasi klinis TB serta manfaat penegakan diagnosis mikrobiologis pada penanganan pasien TB dan lingkungannya, mulai dari promosi kesehatan, pencegahan sampai pengobatan pasien, maupun survaillance epidemiologi. Penyebab utama penyakit TB adalah Mycobcterium tuberculosis complex, bakteri ini mempunyai kekhususan dalam hal karakteristik biologik dan karakteristik secara immunologis pada hospes, dalam penegakan diagnostik mikrobiologis memerlukan metode spesifik. Selain itu, penyakit ini dapat disebabkan oleh Mycobacterium other than tuberculosis (MOTT), terutama pada kasus imunosupresi seperti pada pasien AIDS, dengan demikian penting ditegakkan diagnosis mikrobiologis untuk penentuan bakteri penyebab penyakit infeksi karena pengobatan berbeda.

Penyakit TBC menjadi perhatian bangsa Indonesia dan global karena tingginya angka kesakitan dan kematian akibat TBC ini. Provinsi Jawa Timur merupakan provinsi kedua tertinggi di Indonesia dalam jumlah kejadian TBC. Analisis spasial berguna untuk mengetahui pola spasial kejadian TBC dan hubungan spasial antara penyakit TBC dengan determinannya, sehingga dapat ditanggulangi lebih tepat dan berbasis kewilayahan. Buku ini membahas distribusi spasial dan hubungan spasial antara TBC dengan determinannya di Provinsi Jawa Timur tahun 2015-2019. Secara spasial beberapa kabupaten/kota di Jawa Timur memiliki autokorelasi spasial lokal yang signifikan pada kuadran low-low dan high-low dan terdapat autokorelasi spasial lokal antara penyakit TBC dengan kepadatan penduduk, kemiskinan, rumah sehat, jenis lantai tanah, rumah tangga ber-PHBS, dan rasio fasilitas kesehatan terhadap penduduk pada beberapa wilayah di Provinsi Jawa Timur. Implementasi epidemiologi spasial disajikan dalam buku ini dengan bahasa yang sederhana dan contoh kasus yang aktual step by step. Harapannya, hal demikian itu dapat menambah pengetahuan dan keterampilan para pembaca sehingga tidak ada lagi alasan di kalangan peneliti atau masyarakat pemerhati kesehatan masyarakat khususnya penyakit TBC tidak memahami analisis spasial dan penerapannya pada penyakit TBC.
