In a world of black ops, espionage, and kill teams, a special agent must take down a team of rebels he trained in order to protect his country. DEEPER THAN DEEP STATE In the clandestine world of shadow ops, he’s known as “The Man From Orange.” A master of surveillance, signals intelligence—and silent killing—special operative Drake Woolf has been groomed and trained by the old-guard intel community after his CIA father and mother were murdered in Tunisia. Now he works for Task Force Orange, handling cases the government doesn’t want its fingerprints on. Woolf can always be relied on to carry out an assignment with surgical precision—and exterminate a threat with extreme prejudice. But his latest mission is different. Woolf knows the targets personally. He trained them in Iraq to be the perfect killing machines. Known as the “Mohawks,” these Iraqi rebels know our secrets, our strengths, and our weaknesses. And they’re using this knowledge to launch the deadliest attack the world has ever seen—on American soil . . . FIRST IN A NEW SERIES! Praise for Buried in Black: “J. T. "Based on a foundation of cultural theory and scholarship, the author explores a variety of issues related to race, culture and death ritual practices by immersing himself in the rich narratives and sources of information gleaned from his in-depth interviews with funeral directors, corporate funeral home representatives, clergy and individuals who have recently lost a loved one. Additionally, he has observed numerous funeral and burial services and cemetery landscapes, and has examined federal and state public policies surrounding burial and disposal, as well as other forms of death-related discourse. Ultimately, the book describes how death rituals both manifest and reinforce different cultural identities, and suggests that perhaps, it is through the experience of death that we might find the most enduring possibilities for promoting greater cultural understanding by maintaining rather than eliminating such differences."--BOOK JACKET.

For centuries, secret-keeping has been a necessity in the Black community. Slaves hid children born with disabilities, to keep them from being killed. Thirsty for knowledge, they could not safely learn to read and write, so that was kept carefully hidden, as well. Continuing into the days of Jim Crow, more sophisticated secrets were kept, so that Blacks could socialize and enjoy each other's company without the threat of the Klan hunting them for sport. From generation to generation, each Black person carries the weight of secrets passed from elders and ancestors. Grass Won't Grow Where Secrets Are Buried is a collection of compelling stories focused on the liberation that happens when secrets are finally seen for what they are. With topics ranging from social climate change to bad relationships to the stigma of mental health issues, the journeys these characters take will inspire you to examine secrets in your own life... and set yourself free.

The Black Hawk War was a conflict between the United States and Native Americans led by Black Hawk, a Sauk leader. The war erupted soon after Black Hawk and a group of Sauks, Meskwakis, and Kickapoos, known as the "British Band", crossed the Mississippi River, into the U.S. state of Illinois, from Iowa Indian Territory in April 1832. Black Hawk's motives were ambiguous, but he was apparently hoping to avoid bloodshed while resettling on tribal land that had been ceded to the United States in the disputed 1804 Treaty of St. Louis. Black Hawk, born Ma-ka-tai-me-she-kia-kiak, (1767-1838) was a band leader and warrior of the Sauk American Indian tribe in what is now the Midwest of the United States. Although he had inherited an important historic medicine bundle from his father, he was not a hereditary civil chief. Black Hawk earned his status as a war chief or captain by his actions: leading raiding and war parties as a young man, and a band of Sauk warriors during the Black Hawk War of 1832.
