Business Doesn't Grow On Trees is all about marketing. You see, to have a successful business, you need to get the product right. The product can be a service or good, in any industry... you need to get it right or all the marketing in the world can't save you. But having the product alone isn't enough. Every year, thousands of people start new businesses. They have great ideas, work hard and invest significantly... but most fail. The reason they fail is because they're not generating enough revenue - they're not making enough money. And a business that doesn't generate revenue isn't a business, it's a hobby. So how do you generate revenue? You need customers. You need to find people and convince them to give you their money. Their hard-earned money which they have other plans for. You could do that with a baseball bat, knuckledusters and a menacing look...Or you do it with marketing. That word again. The word that gets bandied about and costs so many people so much money... without producing results. Marketing. I don't believe that marketing is that complex. Sure, when you've got huge budgets, teams and you're competing in an ultra-complex space such as Tech, it can become more difficult because everyone is marketing. For the rest of us, it's not that hard. And it's time to stop being ripped off by "experts" who charge big money to execute random little bits of marketing without any strategy... or "strategists" who charge even more money to waffle on as if they know what they're talking about without doing any marketing... It's time to stop spending money on no results and strip marketing back to the basics. So I decided to write this book with my process for beginning (or relaunching) marketing for a business. A book that simplifies marketing - from the brand foundations to deeper strategies - into digestible logic. I'm not pretending to have all the answers and I'm not asking you to trust me any more than the gazillion other marketing people out there. All I'm asking you to do is hold off a week before you spend £5,000 on awful web design and £10,000 on nonsense strategy... and spend under £10 on my book instead. That way, when you do go to invest in all those other bits, you'll have some idea what's flying. £10 to stop you wasting hundreds or thousands. I think it's a bargain.

The 7 most expensive words in any organisation are...'We have always done it that way.' Running a business is tough in the best of times but when things do go well, it's easy to be complacent. Few business owners and leaders are complacent today, however. After decades of growth and prosperity, the 'GFC' has been a wake-up call for many, and a reminder that good and prudent financial business practices not only deliver greater margins but can prove a lifeline in difficult times. From Wall Street to Main Street, times are still fairly tough and most business owners and middle managers are still nervous about personal finances and job security. What - if anything - can be done by the average man or woman in the workforce to secure their business and their role? Most obstacles present opportunities. An economic downturn may be an opportunity in disguise to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your overall business. Paper Clips Don't Grow On Trees offers readers some practical, positive options to look at what they're doing well in terms of adding value - and reducing costs - to their operation. The author is not an economist, but worked with IBM globally for a decade and has successfully run a small business for 17 years. Catherine DeVrye is a best-selling author and winner of the Australian Executive Woman of the Year Award. She speaks to organizations around the world on client service, thriving on change and turning obstacles to opportunities.

Many successful businesses begin with less than $1,000 and begin to make money almost immediately. It's usually in an area of the owner's previous experience. He hears opportunity knocking and decides to go for it. You probably have at least two business opportunities staring you right in the face. Learn to recognize them. Choose the best and grasp it with both hands. Don't let it slip away. Take this as your motivational kick in the pants! "How to Grow an Opportunity Tree" is a continuation of the bestselling business fable, "The Ultimate Investment." It teaches essential principles that entertain while revealing how to create a business startup. From initial idea to substantial cash flow, you'll learn how to recognize an opportunity, follow its path, and turn it into a profitable life. Here's the story (It may sound like your own): Dan Benjamin lost his job, lost his dignity and is about to lose his house. He's conscientious, hard working and smart, yet he still can't find a job. He thought he had all the answers but learned the hard way he was sadly mistaken. All he can do is hang on and hold out for a break. Every step forward sees him knocked two steps back. Then Dan learns he's been blacklisted for something he didn't do -- and it's emblazoned all across the newspapers. Dan keeps plugging along, living his life in quiet desperation. Then a strange dream spurs him forward and he meets a fluffy bunny magnate, a chemistry teacher and a festival vendor who help him recognize that opportunity is knocking, and he hadn't even realized it. Trouble is, he's not quite sure how to go about starting a business of his own. It would be a home based business, so his risk is minimal - which is good because he doesn't have any money for a business startup anyway. Hesitantly, Dan steps onto a path leading him to what looks to be the enterprise of his dreams. Can he hold on until he finds success or will he lose everything in the process? He's not sure about this entrepreneurship thing. Written by a veteran banker and business owner who has worked with over 250 startup and expanding businesses. It's an easy-to-follow guide as well as a realistic example of what you can expect when starting your own business.

It is the job of the Product Manager to drive the product lifecycle for maximum short- and long-term profitability. Unfortunately, the job doesn't come with an owner's manual. Until now. "Trees Don't Grow to the Sky" guides the reader through the stages of the product lifecycle, including examples most people are familiar with and everyone can understand. Each step of the way, the reader will come to appreciate the nature of the four unique lifecycle stages, the market forces that put the product there, as well as what to do - and what not to do - now. This is the perfect book for anyone working in Product Management, or considering it as a potential career option. "Trees don't grow to the sky" is a business adage taken from a German proverb, warning against straight-line thinking. The product, the customer, the market will not continue to grow simply because they have always grown in the past. Growth becomes Maturity; Maturity becomes Decline. The lifecycle moves forward. In business, the results we get depend on the decisions we make, and the decisions we make depend on where we are and where we want to go. Understanding product lifecycle fundamentals is essential to making good business decisions.

If you're responsible for the growth of your organization--as a founder, C-suite executive, or a change agent--you know the landscape is changing. Mature companies invest 10x more than VCs but are growing slower than before. To create real, lasting growth, you'll need a new mindset, one that borrows from not just the startup world, but also the natural world. Similar to how oak trees regenerate by dropping acorns that become new trees, you need to grow new lines of business within your existing organization. You need to learn how to build a forest--not just a bigger tree. Henrik Werdelin specializes in applying lessons from startups to existing businesses to get them growing again. This book shows you how to create, implement, govern, and scale new business withing your organization. You'll get the step-by-step process, the philosophy behind it, as well as case studies of businesses that have grown using this method. By learning how to create "acorns" in your business, you'll create longevity and ensure that other trees don't grow quicker and steal your sunlight
