Business Process Management (BPM) is at a pivotal moment as new opportunities and demands emerge. On the one side, Artificial Intelligence and process mining facilitate entirely new process design and analysis options. On the other hand, organizations are tasked to ensure their business processes are also sustainable, responsible and explainable. In light of this fast moving context, insights into the actual practice of BPM have become indispensable points of reference. The BPM Cases Volume 3 adds 16 new cases to the existing 53 cases from Volumes 1 and 2, bringing the case collection to a total of 69 cases from many well-known organizations across industries and around the world. The focus of Volume 3 is on the return on BPM, its operationalization in light of constraints (e.g., data inaccuracies), scaling BPM across an organization and how to blend BPM into unique cultural settings. The cases show among others how to apply process mining to generate business value and how data-led BPM ensures evidence-based ways to manage processes.

This book is a sequel and extension to the book “Business Process Management Cases", published in its first edition by Springer in 2018. It adds 22 new cases for practitioners and educators to showcase and study Business Process Management (BPM). The BPM cases collection is dedicated to providing a contemporary and comprehensive, industry-agnostic insight into the realities of BPM. In particular it focuses on the lessons that only authentic cases can provide. The experiences documented cover both, the positive impact of deploying BPM as well as the lessons learnt from failed attempts. Each case takes a holistic approach and by doing so, each chapter recognizes that BPM in practice is a multidimensional endeavor covering strategy to operations, systems and infrastructure, governance and culture, models and running processes. This volume also introduces a new device to plan and scope BPM initiatives: the BPM Billboard. The Billboard helps professionals to link BPM projects to the corporate strategy and to build the organizational capabilities to reach such strategic directive. Digital technologies do not just facilitate innovative process designs, but enable entire new strategic options. This book provides a contemporary and comprehensive overview of how to create process-enabled strategies in an opportunity-rich environment. Martin Petry, Hilti CIO This is the first book to present the BPM Billboard – A new management tool to plan and scope BPM initiatives. The Billboard together with the insightful real-world cases offers valuable guidance towards BPM success from a holistic perspective. Gero Decker, Signavio CEO

This book introduces students to business process management, an approach that aims to align the organization’s business processes with the demands of the marketplace. Processes serve as a coordination mechanism, and the aim of business process management is to improve the organization’s effectiveness and efficiency in adapting to change, and maintaining competitive advantage. In Business Process Management, Kumar argues for the value of looking at businesses as a collection of processes that cut across departments, and for breaking down functional silos. The book provides an overview of the basic concepts in this field before moving on to more advanced topics such as process verification, flexible processes, process security and evaluation, resource assignment, and social networks. The book concludes with an examination of the future directions of the discipline. Blending a strong grounding in current research with a focus on concepts and tools, Business Process Management is an accessible textbook full of practical examples and cases that will appeal to upper level students.

Design And Control Of Workflow Processes written by Hajo Reijers and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-04-07 with Business & Economics categories.

The motivation behind the conception of this monograph was to advance scientific knowledge about the design and control of workflow processes. A workflow pr- ess (or workflow for short) is a specific type of business process, a way of or- nizing work and resources. Workflows are commonly found within large admin- trative organizations such as banks, insurance companies, and governmental agencies. Carrying out the tasks of a workflow in a particular order is required to handle one type of case. Examples of cases are mortgage applications, customer complaints, and claims for unemployment benefits. A workflow used in handling mortgage applications may contain tasks for recording the application, specifying a mortgage proposal, and approving the final policy. The monograph concentrates on four workflow-related issues within the area of Business Process Management; the field of designing and controlling business processes. The first issue is how workflows can be adequately modeled. Workflow mod- ing is an indispensable activity to support any reasoning about workflows. Diff- ent purposes of workflow modeling can be distinguished, such as system ena- ment by Workflow Management Systems, knowledge management, costing, and budgeting. The focus of workflow modeling in this monograph is (a) to support simulation and analysis of workflows and (b) to specify a new workflow design. The main formalism used for the modeling of workflows is the Petri net. Many - isting notions to define several relevant properties have been adopted, such as the workflow net and the soundness notion.
