In response to states' serious shortcomings in preparing pupils for the work force, this decade has seen an explosion of new contracts between schools and outside individuals and organizations. Some partnerships have attempted to develop new learning styles, improve vocational education, forge new school-work linkages, broaden teachers' work experience, apply private-sector wisdom to school management, and make changes in business behavior, especially in recruitment and training. National context has strongly influenced what partnerships have been able to achieve in each Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) country.
