This is a collection of short fiction stories about women who make up their own rules, even if those rules are made up as they go along. Each leading lady takes bold chances in order to get her own way, involving the likes of a rock star, truck driver, cowboy and farm boy. Starting with Gwen, we meet a lady who is fed up with an unhappy marriage and bravely walks away from it all; in The Perfect Interview, a sexy lady finds herself face to face with a sexy rock star; for My Mother's Smile, a young girl sees her mother's happiness from a point of view beyond her years; in Sometime, we meet Mr. Rock Star again, but this time he's the one who is smitten, and then The Wish, where our lady's unusual predicament is the result of a wacko fan of her famous husband. And a surprise at the end (look for the hidden 'track'). Some content in this book contains language and adult situations, but, then again, so does life.

Anita Endrezze has deep memories. Her father was a Yaqui Indian. Her mother traced her heritage to Slovenia, Germany, Romania, and Italy. And her stories seem to bubble up from this ancestral cauldron. Butterfly Moon is a collection of short stories based on folk tales from around the world. But its stories are set in the contemporary, everyday world. Or are they? Endrezze tells these stories in a distinctive and poetic voice. Fantasy often intrudes into reality. Alternate “realities” and shifting perspectives lead us to question our own perceptions. Endrezze is especially interested in how humans hide feelings or repress thoughts by developing shadow selves. In “Raven’s Moon,” she introduces the shadow concept with a Black Moon, the “unseen reflection of the known.” (Of course the story is about a witch couple who seem very much in love.) The title character in “The Wife Who Lived on Wind” is an ogress who lives in a world somewhat similar to our own, but only somewhat. “The Vampire and the Moth Woman” reveals shape-shifters living among us. Not surprisingly, Trickster appears in these tales. As in Native American stories, Trickster might be a fox or a coyote or a raven or a human—or something in between. “White Butterflies” and “Where the Bones Are” both deal with devastating diseases that swept through Yaqui country in the 1530s. Underneath their surfaces are old Yaqui folktales that feature the greatest Trickster of all: Death (and his little brother Fate). Enjoyably disturbing, these stories linger—deep in our memory.

'Butterflies in Production; Five Short Stories, ' is the second novella penned by J.L. Caban, which pulls characters from its predecessor, 'Moving On, ' the coming of age story of a young man who is attempting to escape a world of drugs and alcohol; this work, 'Butterflies in Production, ' now draws attention to some of the moral and social issues in which these new characters are dealing; issues such as biracial relationships and the prejudices that come with them; growing up in an inner city, having no choice but to deal in narcotics to put food on the table; being raised in an abusive home; and, finally, the stresses faced by women in a male dominated occupation. Take a trip into their convoluted worlds and witness how these protagonists struggle to find their way through the darkness, in search of the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.

In the chaos theory, the butterfly effect is described as the phenomenon wherein the slightest change in the initial conditions of a nonlinear system can cause great changes at a later stage. In simpler terms, all that we do, the smallest decisions we make, the people we meet, create a ripple effect on the story of our lives. A simple decision of taking a right instead of left or bumping accidentally into a neighbour—everything has consequences. Every encounter, no matter how insignificant, modifies our story in a unique way. The Butterfly Effect and Other Short Stories is a collection of the tales of such encounters—some life-changing, some life-affirming, and some that happen long after the life is lost.

Rainbows and Butterflies is a book that brings color and hope back into the lives of the generation of the confused (my generation). In a world of war, chaos, and desperation, it recreates a world of simplicity; a world that appreciates the beauty and depths of every color in a rainbow, and the grace in which a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. This collection of short stories and poems is loosely based on my own experiences and hardships that came with leaving adolescence and stepping into the

These vivid and compelling tales, many set in Africa and Asia, are about immigrants and others facing change and dislocation. The science is never pedantic; indeed the language of biology and natural history is used to great lyrical effect. The stories are accomplished and seasoned, remarkably so given that this is the author’s first book. Murray is adept at holding together a complex narrative and creating characters who reach out emotionally to the reader upon first meeting. Global in scope, classical in form, evocative of place, and deeply emotional, this collection marks the beginning of what promises to be an illustrious career.
