This book is the first comprehensive work about all facets of the Dard Hunter life. It has captured the essence of Hunter, his world, and his vision. He was a unique blend of craftsman and scholar. He was not only a designer in the Arts & Crafts Movement in the early decades of this century, but also a private press printer, paper historian, author, collector, and museum director. He traveled the world between the two world wars collecting tools, equipment, raw materials, and paper specimens, which now comprise the Dard Hunter Research Center at the Robert C. Williams American Museum of Papermaking in Atlanta, Georgia.

Labour And Value Rethinking Marx S Theory Of Exploitation written by Ernesto Screpanti and has been published by Open Book Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-09 with Education categories.

In this book Ernesto Screpanti provides a rigorous examination of Marx’s theory of exploitation, one of the cornerstones of Marxist thought. With precision and clarity, he identifies the holes in traditional readings of Marx’s theory before advancing his own original interpretation, drawing on contemporary philosophy and economic theory to provide a refreshingly interdisciplinary exegesis. Screpanti’s arguments are delivered with perspicuity and verve: this is a book that aims to spark a debate. He exposes ambiguities present in Marx’s exposition of his own theory, especially when dealing with the employment contract and the notions of ‘abstract labor’ and ‘labor value’, and he argues that these ambiguities have given rise to misunderstandings in previous analyses of Marx’s theory of exploitation. Screpanti’s own interpretation is a meticulously argued counterpoint to these traditional interpretations. Labour and Value is a significant contribution to the theory of economics, particularly Marxist economics. It will also be of great interest to scholars in other disciplines including sociology, political science, and moral and political philosophy. Screpanti’s clear and engaging writing style will attract the interested general reader as well as the academic theorist.

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1912 edition. Excerpt: ... Christ and the Toiler ""V" ABOE troubles" come as the result of an 1 advancing civilization. Social unrest is sometimes an indication of social progress. There are no labor troubles in "Darkest Africa." Therefore, the cloud on the industrial horizon has its silver lining, if one will but look for it. Many are the signs of development on the part of the working man, but most hopeful is the spirit of pride that he is taking in his position as a worker and as a citizen. Whatever may be said as to the condition of the toiler in some industries or in some countries, his position as the man upon whom rests the prosperity and the happiness of the whole people is more and more being recognized. The brain of the country is paying tribute to the brawn. This being so, the working man will soon come to his own. It is in this respect that he has for himself that he is winning the respect of others. While it is true that the mass of men must of necessity belong to that great company who toil with their hands, nevertheless, the dignity of that toil has heightened the worker. It is an inspiration to realize that all toil--even the manual work of the artisan--may become as sacred as that of the preacher and of the priest. Men sometimes make a distinction between secular and religious work. Jesus never did. To Him all work was sacred. Jesus as a carpenter was just as divine as when He cleansed the leper or preached to the multitude. In every case He was carrying out the will of God. "When Jesus stood by the Eiver Jordan, and the heavens opened, and the voice declared: "This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased," He had never, so far as we know, performed a miracle or preached a sermon. He had simply been toiling as a carpenter in the little town...

Each chapter examines the historical background and plot of the work, the labor and workplace issues raised by the author, and the history of those issues since the text was published. Just a few of the issues raised are low wages, long hours, workplace dangers, unemployment, sexual harassment, and the struggle of immigrants. Each chapter provides topics for research and discussion, and cites works for further reading. The volume closes with a selected, general bibliography. The volume discusses such issues as low wages, long hours, workplace dangers, unemployment, sexual harassment, lack of job security or medical care, and the struggle of immigrants. The Wages Of Whiteness written by David R. Roediger and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-05 with Social Science categories.

An enduring history of how race and class came together to mark the course of the antebellum US and our present crisis. Roediger shows that in a nation pledged to independence, but less and less able to avoid the harsh realities of wage labor, the identity of "white" came to allow many Northern workers to see themselves as having something in common with their bosses. Projecting onto enslaved people and free Blacks the preindustrial closeness to pleasure that regimented labor denied them, "white workers" consumed blackface popular culture, reshaped languages of class, and embraced racist practices on and off the job. Far from simply preserving economic advantage, white working-class racism derived its terrible force from a complex series of psychological and ideological mechanisms that reinforced stereotypes and helped to forge the very identities of white workers in opposition to Blacks. Full of insight regarding the precarious positions of not-quite-white Irish immigrants to the US and the fate of working class abolitionism, Wages of Whiteness contributes mightily and soberly to debates over the 1619 Project and critical race theory.
