Byron and Bob is the first book ever to be dedicated to the most important literary relationship in Byron’s career – that with the Poet Laureate, Robert Southey, whom he hated, and to whom he “dedicated” his most important poem, Don Juan. Drawing on much unseen manuscript material, Peter Cochran shows that although Byron’s antipathy towards Southey was at first a normal literary distaste, it became, the more he ingested his private image of Southey, a projected self-distrust, a dislike of everything in himself with which he was unhappy. The book has as appendix a double edition of the two Visions of Judgement, firstly Southey’s original, and then Byron’s travesty, in which he has succeeded in rendering his enemy ridiculous to all succeeding generations. These two important works have not been published together for many years.

Byron and Hobby-O is about the relationship between Byron and his supposed best friend, John Cam Hobhouse. It is the first full-length biographical study of Hobhouse in over fifty years, and is much franker and more intimate than anything preceding. It shows how, while the two men were initially collaborators and rivals, Byron rapidly outstretched Hobhouse in poetry, while Hobhouse, in the longer term, outstretched Byron in politics. Aspects of Byron’s Don Juan is, in part, a proceedings volume from the 2012 conference held by the Newstead Byron Society at Nottingham Trent University. This book details my childhood, moving from Rockfort Kingston to St. Johns Road, Spanish town. Life was hard for my parents. I drop out of school and started learning welding with my father, I started doing things to make money, mainly construction. Life was rough, on the site wasn’t easy. I was exposed to hard core stuff like knives and gun violence, among other things. I learnt that life lesson, things spiralled and I went to prison. It was while in prison I learned it was a dark place which I will discuss in this book. I encounter the most ruthless criminals, rapist, robbers to murderers. I spoke to a lot of inmates daily who details things that they did. For instance, Wes man, who killed and ate his victim’s, a man by the name of John that killed his daughter, another man that assaulted and tortured his baby mother in most inhumane way , by inserting a piece of hot steel inside her. I learn about the Galas, the area, where the death penalty is carried out. I spoke with a girl called Andrea who was raped by her brother a police officer. I also speak with Selena, who used her menstrual to cook stew peas and gave it to an English man to control him and his money. These are some of the stories that inspired me to write Vision of Byron Needle.
