Written by Geoffrey Bond with a foreword by Loyd Grossman this lavishly illustrated coffee table tome introduces the reader to the many dogs that were part of Byron's entourage over the years. As the title indicates we learn more about the dog that many people may have heard of - his Newfoundland Boatswain, whose extravagant tomb lies in the grounds of Newstead Abbey - through to bulldogs, mastiffs and both of his dogs named Lyon. This is the first book to delve so deeply into Byron's love of animals. Many biographies touch on the more famous of his dogs, but Geoffrey Bond's book looks at not only the Lord's pets but some of those of his contemporaries such as Sir Walter Scott's greyhound Hamlet. Indeed Byron himself briefly owned a greyhound which he sadly records as dying on his way home to England from travelling in Greece.

Byron S Don Juan written by Richard Cronin and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-29 with Literary Criticism categories.

In this first full-length study of Byron's masterpiece in over thirty years, Richard Cronin boldly presents Don Juan as the epic poem of its age. Impressively illuminating the whole literary nineteenth century through a single work, he asks what kind of epic can be said to represent an era more readily defined by newspapers and magazines than by competitors such as Wordsworth's Excursion or Southey's Joan of Arc arose. Delving into questions of form and choice of hero, he also explores the controversies that informed the poem's reception, its contemporary interactions, and its influence on later nineteenth-century literature. Don Juan, he argues, is the epic poem demanded by an age of cant and dissembling, when people's feelings and the world they lived in had become disconnected. In it, he finds a powerful defence of liberal thinking at a time when that kind of thinking was under threat.

Lord Byron S Life In Italy written by Teresa Guiccioli (contessa di) and has been published by University of Delaware Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Lord Byron's Life in Italy is an English translation of Vie de Lord Byron en Italie by Byron's Italian friend Teresa Guiccioli, the manuscript of which has lain in Ravenna since the early 1880s, and which has never-been published, or even read except by a small number of scholars. Teresa Guiccioli was the poet's last mistress, his liaison with whom was of longer duration than any other. They met in 1819, and their relationship lasted until he left Italy for Greece in 1823. Persecuted by the authorities because of the friendship with such a dangerous man, Teresa's family had to move from Ravenna to Pisa and finally to Genoa. Teresa knew Byron better, probably, than any other person, and her fresh and original account of his life has been unknown for too long. This superb translation, with elaborate introduction and notes, fills a long-acknowledged gap in studies of Byron. Michael Rees is a past joint chair of the Byron Society. Peter Cochran is the editor of the Newstead Abbey Byron Society Review.
