La novela El alado alazán es la historia de un jinete y un caballo, de sus andanzas, vicisitudes y buenos momentos. El protagonista «humano» es don Gonzalo Téllez de Meneses, que se formó en la Escuela de Tercios de Madrid, y es destinado al Destacamento de Caballería de Costa de Alicante, durante el reinado de Felipe II, en el siglo XVI, esa edad de oro de nuestra literatura y de nuestra cultura. Numerosos personajes desfilan por la novela, y siempre nuestro alado alazán preside la obra, en la que se intercalan acciones guerreras, la intriga y el misterio, aspectos costumbristas del Alicante de la época y diversas «sorpresas», que el lector irá descubriendo. Tras la buena acogida de Ser feliz corriendo, Misterios en el maratón y La magia del Volga, se adentra nuestro autor, con El alado alazán. Corredores del siglo XVI, en la novela histórica, género que tiene su adalid en el escritor Walter Scott, por el que Moratinos sintió siempre una verdadera unción. Con un estilo vivo y abierto, estamos ante una obra en la que la historia, la cultura, las características del Alicante del siglo XVI y la proyección de España en el mundo se entrelazan formando un conjunto que hace la lectura, a la vez, amena y profunda. Igual que abrió caminos innovadores en la novela policíaca, creemos que el autor ahora aporta renovación y aires nuevos al género de la novela histórica, enriquecida con elementos fundamentales, culturales y de valores humanos.
