How will you -- how can you -- answer God's call to holiness? The path to holiness is traveled step by step. The way of holiness is lived grace by grace. Your journey to God is nothing more, and nothing less, than that series of steps. But how do you take that step each day? How do you live that grace each day? How, each day, do you answer God's call, God's personal invitation to holiness? What New York's Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan recommends, urges, reminds, and teaches is radical in the truest sense of that word: It is basic. It is at the roots. It is fundamental. This solid theologian, noted Church historian, and natural-born storyteller goes first to the source: what Christ said and promised, what Scripture and Tradition tell us. Then building on that firm foundation, here, too, is what the Church teaches; what the saints have discovered, lived, and shared; what the Fathers and Doctors of the Church have written; what "ordinary" Catholics -- on that path, accepting those graces -- have come to learn. Here is a detailed examination and encouraging explanation of faith, hope, humility, love and chastity, human formation, patience, penance, joy, and obedience. Here is how to be a good steward of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as you hear and answer God's call.

Written from a Lutheran perspective, this book introduces the reader to key Christian figures and movements as it encompasses a broad view of God's work in the world. The story after all is God's story. As His story it is centered in Christ's cross, but extends around the globe as Christians lived and continue to live out their particular vocations as holy people in the world. As a resource for students of all ages, this book surveys how Christianity confronted the world and how Christians tried to balance the challenges of living wholly and holy in the world. Historical information on various controversies provides background information for the volume on Christian doctrine in this series, Called by the Gospel. Organized in a unique style, each of the twenty-one chapters deals with one century of Christian history. Discussion questions and reading guides along with informative side bars provide additional educational resource and reference material for further study.

Catholics are taught to prize holiness—to admire it in others and to strive for it in their own lives. But we’re never quite told what holiness is. In Holy Is His Name: The Transforming Power of God’s Holiness in Scripture, Scott Hahn seeks to define the term in order to help us better understand our relationship with holiness. Tracing the meaning of holiness first through the Old Testament and then the New, Hahn masterfully reveals how God gradually transmits his holiness to his people—through creation, right worship, and more—and ultimately transforms them through the sharing of his divine life.

The call of God is the manifestation in time of the purpose of eternity: 'Whom He predestinated, them He also called.' Believers are 'the called according to His purpose.' In His call He reveals to us what His thoughts and His will concerning us are, and what the life to which He invites us. In His call He makes clear to us what the hope of our calling is; as we spiritually apprehend and enter into this, our life on earth will be the reflection of His purpose in eternity. Holy Scripture uses more than one word to indicate the object or aim of our calling, but none more frequently than what Peter speaks of here-God has called us to be holy as He is holy. Paul addresses believers twice as 'called to be holy' (Rom. i. 7; 1 Cor. i. 2). 'God called us', he says, 'not for uncleanness, but in sanctification' (1 Thess. 12iv. 7). When he writes, 'The God of peace sanctify you wholly, ' he adds, 'Faithful is He which calleth you, who also will do it' (1 Thess. v. 24). The calling itself is spoken of as 'a holy calling.' The eternal purpose of which the calling is the outcome, is continually also connected with holiness as its aim. 'He hath chosen us in Him, that we should be holy and without blame' (Eph. i. 4). 'Whom God chose from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification' (2 Thess. ii. 12). 'Elect according to the foreknowledge of the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit' (1 Pet. i. 2). The call is the unveiling of the purpose that the Father from eternity had set His heart upon: that we should be holy

This book is about holiness. I realize the topic is offensive to many professing Christians in the contemporary church-as has always been the case in every generation. Just the same, while the subject has been fraught with many controversies, theories, and caricatures of its reality, the call remains: "but as he who called you is holy, you also be holyin all your conduct, since it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy.'" God has raised up men and women in every generation of the Church to herald his call to holiness. These heralds of holiness have faithfully raised their voices and used their pens to sound forth God's biblical call to a holy life. Faithful servants have always been in the Master's Minority, rejected by popular Christianity. No matter-they have followed their Shepherd and listened to his voice. In an age when the average church member wants to hear from the pulpit and writer what is pleasant and soothing, amusing and entertaining, the Christ of the Candlesticks is walking among the churches seeking those who will surrender to him wholly, walking with him in garments made white by the blood of Lamb. This volume has been compiled for all who seek to know God more fully, know him more intimately, and follow him more closely.

Most of the English translation of the New Testament contain words such as "holy", "sanctify", "holiness" and "sanctification" in reference to the God, Jesus Christ and the Spirit of the God, and also referrring to those called out and sent out by the God. The translated word "holy" is often to describe temple and places where the presence of the God and also His dwelling place. There are hardly any writing detailing the meaning and significance of "holy", "sanctify", "holiness", "sanctification" by "Christian authors" according to the New Testament scriptures. Words such as "holy" and "holiness" are used in the world especially by people of other religions describing places and people such as the Dalai Lama and the pope, the head of the Catholic Church. Do those who confess to be believers into the Lord Jesus Christ understand the meaning of "holy", "sanctify", "holiness" and "sanctification" as translated in most English Bibles? We often hear of the saying, "We are sinners saved by the grace of the God" by so-called Christians. This statement is not the truth. The truth is that sinners are saved by the grace of the God, who then makes sinners to become holy ones in order that they may be saved. That is why in the New Testament scriptures the apostles often described believers as "holy ones" or "saints" because unless those called by the God to salvation become holy they will not enter into the kingdom of the God or will not receive everlasting life. It is therefore important that those who are called out by the God to salvation must not only understand the meaning of "holy", "sanctify", "holiness" and "sanctification", they must also ultimately become holy before the God in order that they may inherit everlasting life. To many professing believers today the words "holy" and "holiness" are rather nebulous or vague to them. They mostly link holy and holiness to the God, Jesus Christ, the angels and the prophets of the God. And if the believers are called holy ones, they understand that they are cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ, even though they still live and walk according to their own thinking of what is good. This Book Number 21 is released to reveal the true meaning of five Greek words relating to holy, sanctify, holiness and sanctificatioin, and how they are linked to the salvation of those the God called/calls to salvation. Since all mankind ar born sinners, how are those mankind who are called to salvation made holy or become holy? The five Greek words appearing in the New Testament scriptures revealed in this book are "hagios", "hagiazo", "hagiasmos", "hagiosune" and "hosiotes". Their meaning and significance to the gospel of salvation are also revealed according to the contexts in its appearance in each scripture. The relationship between holy and righteous is also revealed according to the New Testament scriptures. Believers are told to pursue to holiness without which they will not see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14) and Peter told believers that they must be holy in all behaviour and that believers must become holy because the God is holy(1 Peter 1:15-16). This book reveals the essentials according to the New Testament scriptures the meaning of holy, holiness and how to become holy in order for believers to be blameless before the God to receive everlasting life.

There is not in Scripture a word more distinctly Divine in its origin and meaning than the word holy. There is not a word that leads us higher into the mystery of Deity, nor deeper into the privilege and the blessedness of God's children. And yet it is a word that many a Christian has never studied or understood. There are not a few who can praise God that during the past twenty years the watchword Be Holy has been taken up in many a church and Christian circle with greater earnestness than before. In books and magazines, in conventions and conferences, in the testimonies and the lives of believers, we have abundant tokens that what is called the Holiness-movement is a reality. And yet how much is still wanting! What multitudes of believing Christians there are who have none but the very vaguest thoughts of what holiness is! And of those who are seeking after it how many who have hardly learnt what it is to come to God's Word and to God Himself for the teaching that can alone reveal this part of the mystery of Christ and of God! To many, holiness has simply been a general expression for the Christian life in its more earnest form, without much thought of what the term really means. In writing this little book, my object has been to discover in what sense God uses the word, that so it may mean to us what it means to Him. I have sought to trace the word through some of the most important passages of Holy Scripture where it occurs, there to learn what God's holiness is, what ours is to be, and what the way by which we attain it. I have been specially anxious to point out how many and various the elements are that go to make up true holiness as the Divine expression of the Christian life in all its fulness and perfection. I have at the same time striven continually to keep in mind the wonderful unity and simplicity there is in it, as centred in the person of Jesus. As I proceeded in my work, I felt ever more deeply how high the task was I had undertaken in offering to guide others even into the outer courts of the Holy Place of the Most High. And yet the very difficulty of the task convinced me of how needful it was.
