“From its founding, Rice University has been an institution devoted to making a strong impact on the world,” according to current president David Leebron. Nestled near Houston’s cultural heart, Rice University is characterized by seriousness of purpose as well as by such quirky traditions as the MOB (Marching Owl Band). In Rice University: One Hundred Years in Pictures, more than 300 photographs tell the story of a century of student life, a world-famous faculty, and news-making events. Distinguished by its dignified architecture and stately grounds, respected for its intellectual depth and international reputation, and loved by its alumni for the community fostered by residential colleges, moderate size, and diverse campus organizations, Rice University celebrates its centennial in 2012. This collection of unique images, artfully supplemented by brief narrative, explanatory captions, and carefully chosen text sidebars, presents vignettes of significant episodes, characters, and events. A splendid commemoration of one hundred years of distinguished academics, groundbreaking research, and the spirited students and faculty who have made this institution unique among American universities, Rice University: One Hundred Years in Pictures pays fitting tribute to an eminent citadel of learning and the people who have made it great.

Religion Law And The Politics Of Ethical Diversity written by Claude Proeschel and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-30 with Law categories.
This book provides a multidisciplinary and comparative look at the contemporary phenomenon of conscientious objection or contestation in the name of religion and examines the key issues that emerge in terms of citizenship and democracy. These are analysed by looking at the different ways of challenging or contesting a legal obligation on the grounds of religious beliefs and convictions. The authors focus on the meaning of conscientious objection which asserts the legitimacy of convictions – in particular religious convictions – in determining the personal or collective relevance of the law and of public action. The book begins by examining the main theoretical issues underlying conscientious objection, exploring the implications of the protection of freedom of conscience, the place of religion in the secular public sphere and the recognition and respect of ethical pluralism in society. It then focuses on the question of exemptions and contestations of civil norms, using a multidisciplinary approach to highlight the multiple and diverse issues surrounding them, as well as the motives behind them. This book will be of great interest to scholars, specialists and graduate and advanced undergraduate students who are interested in issues of religious diversity. Researchers and policymakers in think-tanks, NGOs and government units will find the volume useful in identifying key issues in understanding the phenomenon of conscientious objection and its implications in managing ethical diversity in contemporary societies.

Healing Fractures In Contemporary Theology written by Peter John McGregor and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-20 with Religion categories.
Since Vatican II, the key question that has developed in Catholic theology, often unstated or unrecognized, is, what is theology? The thesis presented here is that contemporary theologizing is “fractured” in many places and to varying degrees. These fractures can vary in seriousness between theologians, and a particular theologian may suffer from some fractures but not others. The fractures addressed here are between •theology and spirituality •theology and philosophy •theology and liturgy •the literal and spiritual senses of sacred scripture •theology, preaching, and apologetics •theology and ethics •theology and social theory •dogmatic and pastoral theology •theology and the “koinonial” Christian life •theologians and non-theologians • the generation gap between Gen X and Millennial/Post-Millennial Catholics, and •theology and the Magisterium. For each of these, an attempt is made to examine the symptoms, give a diagnosis, and write a prescription.

“Fractured glints of moonlight on the cracked window pane occasionally break through the ever present cloud cover casting ominous shadows across the barren landscape. Earlier today there was a bee trapped inside with me. Poor thing, its fate is as sealed as mine. Both of us are doomed.” “My name is Grace Anne Parker. I am 25 years old, and tomorrow morning I will die.” “This is not the end. It is the beginning.”
