Training starts from the moment you bring your pet into your home. When you understand WHY your dog thinks the way he does, training should and can be fun for you and the entire family as well as for your pet. Although they are all unique with their own individual personalities, some dogs are more dominate and some are more submissive. However, they are all fundamentally the same and need to be taught what you want and expect from them, but in a manner they can instinctively understand. This book is the result of more than 20 years of experience with dog behaviorism and training in homes, and with what people seemed to need the most. It's an easy-to-read quick reference book that addresses common behaviors that dogs exhibit and what to do about them. Sheri Venza is a Dog Trainer/Behaviorist who has been going to people's homes, the dog's 'territory' for over 20 years. Her goal is to make the training process fun for both owner and pet without the use of food, toys, or other unnecessary items. She says there is no such thing as a 'bad dog.' Behavioral issues, regardless of what they are, usually originate or become worse in the dog's home. Dogs can exhibit the same behaviors but for very different reasons. The cause of a particular behavior needs to be determined in order for the appropriate behavioral modification program to be implemented. Sheri says you must treat your dog like the pack animal he is, to have him behave like the dog you want, so you can then treat him like the person you wish he was

A Dog In A Million written by Hazel Carter and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-03-05 with Pets categories.

Hazel Carter's home-help tidies the house, does the washing and helps with the cooking, and the only payment she requires is a nice big bowl of dog food at dinner time ... When Hazel was debilitated with crippling back problems, she found herself unable to look after the house so she used her skills as an animal behaviourist to teach Connie, her seven-month-old Newfoundland, how to do the work instead. Connie picks out items of dirty clothing from the laundry basket and places them inside the washing machine. When the washing cycle is over, Connie transfers the clean clothes to the tumble dryer. Hazel could leave Connie to complete the entire task unsupervised - if only Connie understood that dark colours must not be washed with whites. Connie also works in the garden, brings in the shopping and is happy to do anything from carefully carrying a basket of eggs to pulling Hazel along in a boat. 'At one stage all I could do was lie in bed and Connie would bring me a toy from her toy box for me to throw as I lay there. She quickly learnt that to have a game she must first bring her toy to me, a very valuable lesson. My idea was to keep her occupied and mentally stimulated while helping me at the same time.' Underlying the story of this remarkable dog is a remarkable relationship with a remarkable woman: Hazel Carter. For almost thirty years she has been helping owners to understand and cure their dogs' behavioural problems with patience, gentleness and kindness.

Are you struggling with a dog that seems to want to call all the shots? Dog aggression can be frightening and overwhelming, leaving pet parents to feel hopeless about connecting with their furry friends. Lacking the understanding of why a dog behaves aggressively makes it nearly impossible to diagnose the cause and to stop it from happening again. In this book, the author explains the different types of aggressive behavior man's best friend might display, and gives you hot tips on how to reduce and soothe that aggressive behavior. The secret is that most aggressive behavior is actually caused by fear and anxiety rather than a purposeful desire to disobey or dominate. Learning to speak their language and cure the problem at the source allows a healthier, safer relationship to blossom between your family and your canine companion. To that end, in this book, you'll find fascinating information about how dogs communicate and ways in which their social structure resemble our own. You'll also find information on how to prevent aggression in both puppies and newly added adult dogs in your household. Inside you'll also find training tips and shortcuts. You might find that some of the issues and behavioral problems you've witnessed in your dog is caused by something you never would have guessed! Many aggression and behavior problems can be secretly linked. Don't waste any more time using old, ineffective styles of teaching that push you and your dog further apart and often make the aggressive behavior worse. Inside these pages, the author lays out the best ways to reduce those behaviors while improving the happiness and mood of your entire family. The more time aggressive behavior is permitted, the harder it is to train out. Pet owners who wait too long to take action about aggressive behavior often struggle to train them down the road. The sooner you take action, the easier it is to get the behavior under control. In this book we explore: The temperament tests done by professionals to learn about dog behavior and personality How to diagnose the root of your dog's aggression How to ensure you, your family, and your dog remain safe while improving your relationships with the dog The myth of the Alpha dog and pack theory The "Canine Ladder of Aggression" and all its steps Learn dog language - Common meta-communications your dog displays while playing or interacting with you The best and quickest remedies to improve the aggressive behavior of your beloved pet And more!
