Calling Church Seminary Into The 21st Century written by Donald E. Messer and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Theological seminaries categories.

The twentieth century has been the scene of constant and unparalleled change. The seminaries have not been exempt from this change, as evidenced by the inclusion of women, racial and ethnic minorities, and gays and lesbians in the ranks of students and all forms of ministry. The church has undergone major theological shifts as well, as these new ministers bring their own experiences and belief systems to the church. Donald E. Messer believes that the church must hear these experiences in order for it to continue to grow and meet the challenges of the new millennium. It is in this spirit, of opening the church to the strength of its diversity, that Messer believes God is Calling Church & Seminary into the 21st Century. Messer believes that this may best be accomplished by the church celebrating, not ignoring, the variety of voices and experiences within its community. These voices must not only be heard, but recognized as equal to those that have dominated the church for two thousand years, often to the exclusion of dissenters. The church must also learn to communicate in a new way in order to remain relevant in this era of technological advancement. The verse from Isaiah 40:3 - "Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God" - takes on new meaning when viewed in the light of the recent phenomenon of the information superhighway. The church must deal in "information superhighways" as well as highways to survive in the coming millennium.

For almost the entire period of its existence, the Church has fought to stay spiritually alive. Now, we face a faith crisis of global proportions - particularly for our youth who are meant to lead us in the future. Re:New - A Case for Spiritual Renewal in the 21st Century explores the critical need for examination and spiritual renewal at all levels. This renewal will repair the leakages in our wells, filling us afresh with the life of Christ and of His Spirit, which will then overflow to transform the world. This is the Renew Movement! In the first book of the Re:New series, Pastor Jervis Djokoto explains the urgent call to action for all spiritual leaders and Christians to launch a spiritual revolution grounded in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. Discover how you can join in at a Renewal Hub to spark the journey for you as an individual and your entire Church community. REVIEWS "As the Western Church is in decline and the Global Church is exploding, the question before us is how does renewal take place in both contexts long-term? This book is one of many being written by the next generation of global Christian scholars that is so encouraging and needed right now. Jervis has brought together biblical insight, robust theological reflection, has used his personal journey to give a strong way to move forward in the power of the Holy Spirit in both directions. This conversation is key for us as we try to see the kingdom of God grow, especially in globally influencing multicultural cities like Toronto, where I serve." -- Dr. JON THOMPSON, Senior Pastor, Sanctus Church, Canada and author of Convergence: Why Jesus needs to be more than our Lord and Savior to thrive in a post Christian world. "Churches in the Global north are in a period of spiritual decline as believers get pulled into formal religion or abandon the faith all together. But Jervis Djokoto, a Canadian millennial pastor and Doctoral student of Ghanaian descent is out to change that. In a hope-filled compelling fashion, Djokoto's Re:New - A Case for Spiritual Renewal in the 21st Century Church argues that the same experiential, Spirit-centered, communal and embodied movement of God that shifted the center of Christianity to the global south is available to all countries and communities. Joel 2 speaks of the Holy Spirit being poured out on all flesh. That means in these last days there are renewal catalysts everywhere being moved by God to personal revitalization. Djokoto shares his personal story of transformation and then invites other change agents to join him in local networking hubs that prioritize spirituality over structures and have a willingness to wait as long as it takes for the Spirit to come. The result will be a creative contextualized gospel where Jesus the ultimate cure reverses the signs of sickness in our culture. Here is a clarion call to be taken very seriously." -- JAMES PENNER, Lethbridge-based speaker, sociologist and lead author of Hemorrhaging Faith: Why and When Canadian Young Adults Are Leaving, Staying and Returning to Church. "In his call for spiritual renewal, Pastor Jervis is not offering a new formula but instead is suggesting we slow down and pay attention to the work the Spirit has been doing all along. Jervis makes his point via a survey of church history, theology and global Christianity. Spiritual vitality has consistently emerged as God works through the church's weakness and frailty. This book rings true because it emerges from the author's own spiritual journey as he has learned to listen and discern the voice of the Spirit." -- REV. DAN SHEFFIELD, pastor/church-planter, adjunct lecturer at Tyndale Seminary and author of The Multicultural Leader.

Many people are confused about God's call on their lives. What does it mean to have a calling? Is everyone called to something? This book clears up the confusion and articulates a whole-life vision for calling. Our calling is not a mystery waiting to be discovered but applies to a range of experiences and challenges: we are called to faithfulness in Christ in every dimension of our lives. The authors defend a thoroughly biblical and theological understanding of calling, empowering Christians to live faithfully as God's people in whatever circumstances they find themselves.

Created For God S Mission written by Holt A. Clarke and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-02 with Religion categories.

Created For God's Mission, is a prophetic call for the church to return to the mission going constitution of Christianity. Local churches must re-image faith and ministry in order to reach an age vastly different than the world of our forebears in the faith. The times have changed, but the Great Commission remains the same. The weakened condition among many local churches stems from a failure to understand and incarnate its basic God-given mission. According to Dr. Clarke, "Many churches need more than a tune-up, but rather a major overhaul: the oil of ministry has not been changed in decades, corrosive rust is eating away at the missional infrastructure, the gospel tires are suffering from dry rot, the gas tanks of worship are empty, the teaching gears are slipping, and the engine of leadership is out of COMMISSION." Jesus commissioned the Church for mission; God's mission! He gave the Church its purpose (Great Commission) and the power (Holy Spirit) needed to get it done! Carrying out God's mission through congregational mission centers will foster vital, healthy, growing churches. Dr. Clarke provides practical and relevant insights beneficial for church leaders who desire to cultivate mission-oriented congregations heaven bent on transforming the world. *** The Church is created for God's Mission! The identity of every Christian disciple is forever stamped by the missional identity of Jesus. Every disciple is a missionary called to God's mission. Every local church exists as a "mission outpost" of God's Kingdom. God is fashioning a Great Commission Church to reach a twenty-first century world! God's mission-driven Church is Spirit-storming its way into the twenty-first century, envisioning new realities that will transform the world. By combining a unique blend of first and twenty-first century patterns of discipleship, Dr. Clarke presents a refreshing ancient/future approach to carrying out the Great Commission in today's world! *** The church's only business is not to stay in business, but to stay in mission. The heart palpitations and fibrillations caused by the "double whammy" to the heart of Christianity [post-Christendom and post-modernity] make defibrillators like Dr. Holt Clarke's book all the more necessary. Dr. Clarke understands this new mission frontier for Christianity, and shows how we can reconfigure mission for a new world. -Dr. Leonard Sweet, Ph.D. E. Stanley Jones Chair of Evangelism at Drew University and best-selling author. Dr. Clarke's heart burning passion for Christ and brilliant outlook toward the future of the Christian Church make this book exceptionally eminent. In addition, his globally connected ministerial practices such as in South Korea, clearly proves the viability of his vision for the twenty-first century church. -Dr. Younglae Kim, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Christian Education at the Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea.

Burning Center, Porous Borders articulates what the church is and is called to be about in the world, a world now globalized to the point that the local is lived globally and the global is lived locally. The church must respond creatively and prophetically to the challenges-economic disparity, war and terrorism, diaspora, ecological threat, health crisis, religious diversity, and so on-posed by our highly globalized world. It can do so only if the church's spiritual center burns mightily. Conversely, it can burn mightily in the spirit of Christ only if its borders are porous and allows the fresh air/spirit of change to blow in and out. While there is much rhetoric about change, the most common response to change is to continue doing business as usual. This is particularly the case in the face of perceived global threats. In spite of the hoopla and euphoria of the global village, walls of division and exclusion are rising, hearts are constricting, and moral imagination shrinking. In response to this context, Burning Center, Porous Borders proposes alternative ways or images of being a church: burning center and porous borders, wall-buster and bridge-builder, translocal (glocal), mending-healer, radical hospitality, community of the earth-spirit, household of life abundant, dialogians of life, and community of hope. In Burning Center, Porous Borders congregational vitality and progressive praxis kiss and embrace!

Who decides what your church (local or denominational) will look like twenty-five or thirty years from now? How can you ensure that your church will continue to fulfill its God-given purpose in the next generation? What can be done now to reverse negative trends in ministry such as pastoral burnout? Much of the answer to these questions about pastors and other local church leaders is tied to the training they receive. Training Spirit-Filled Local Church Leaders for the Twenty-First Century encourages all stakeholders in ministry training--educators, pastors and other local church leaders, church members, and those who sense God is calling them to ministry--to prayerfully consider the foundational issues that determine the effectiveness and relevance of a ministry training program. These foundational issues are: -What is the local church, really? -What is spiritual leadership? -What is ministry training? -What is the role of the Holy Spirit in all this? -What did effective training look like in the past, and what might it look like in the twenty-first century?
