Desperate for new ideas to inspire sermons, Bible studies, or private meditation? Here's the book for you. Living Faith: Through the Church's Year offers fifty-two lively reflections for group or individual use, including resources for further study. Part One leads you through the seasons of the church's year from Advent to Trinity. Starting with the Big Bang, you're taken to Bethlehem for Christmas and into the desert for Lent. Christmas cribs, Easter gardens, and a large crucifix illustrate some of the most important Christian festivals. Bible texts, literature, architecture, poetry, and music all help fill out the picture. Part Two takes you into some crucial aspects of being a Christian. Jesus's question to his disciples at Caesarea Philippi ("Who do you say that I am?") helps you think about some important Gospel stories such as the stilling of the storm and the Samaritan woman. Key saints, such as Francis, Benedict, and Dominic, appear, as do C. S. Lewis, J. S. Bach, Mother Teresa, Simon and Garfunkel, and Paddington Bear! A sumptuous feast of exploration and insight, Living Faith is an exciting and stimulating adventure in Christian life--a must for anyone taking the journey of faith seriously.

Calm is the Water beckons us to let go of the stress and tension of life and take hold of the calm and tranquility that is waiting for us to experience and nurture. We all enjoy the high waves at the seashore but not so much when we feel like we are one in the proverbial waves, beating on the shore or on our very being. Therefore, we must practice the way of inner peace to begin to enjoy the calm and peace we know is there for us, if we seek it. Like happiness, we can create inner peace and know it will calm the waves in our hearts and minds to a point of centering us and, at the same time, helping us to be as calm as the peaceful sea. Calm is the Water provides tips and insights to assist you in gaining understanding, techniques, and assistance. It will spur you to a greater understanding of how we can travel from shore to shore, relaxed, calm, and at peace, no matter what is transpiring around us, helping us to stay centered, relaxed, and to enjoy the quiet, even as we enjoy the music and sometimes the noise. Calm is the Water will help us to obtain that quest of longevity as we calm the seas and avoid burning the bridges at the same time. Be at peace, OM TAT SAT!

Today, the Catholic Church is dealing with many complex problems that often leave the faithful confused about the authentic interpretation of Catholic teaching. In Calming the Storm: Navigating the Crises Facing the Catholic Church and Society, experienced Vatican journalist Diane Montagna conducts a wide-ranging and trenchant interview with Fr. Gerald E. Murray that examines the root causes of and potential solutions to the many challenges the Church faces today. Fr. Murray’s insights provide sure guidance in understanding the Church’s teaching on the indissolubility of marriage, homosexuality and gender ideology, the worthy reception of Holy Communion, the value of the Traditional Latin Mass, the horror of the sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy, the responsibility of bishops to uphold—not contradict—the Catholic Faith, and the duty of all Catholics to remain faithful to the teachings handed down from the apostles. Fr. Murray’s analysis highlights that while Christianity is under siege in the modern world, our Faith teaches us to have confidence in God’s never-failing providence. Renewing our minds and hearts in the truths that Christ and His Church teaches us brings true peace of soul. Amidst the maelstrom of doctrinal confusion and worldliness in the Church, Christ alone calms the storm when, like the Apostles, we turn to him in confidence and faith.

The Nature And Demands Of The Sovereign Rule Of God In The Gospel Of Matthew written by Margaret Hannan and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-06-15 with Religion categories.

This work argues that the author of the Gospel of Matthew structures his work as a Bios or biography of Jesus, so as to encapsulate, in narrative form, the essence of his theological understanding of God's Basileia (sovereign rule), as proclaimed and taught in the teaching and healing mission of Jesus. Evidence for this is found in Matthew's careful use of structural markers to divide his story of Jesus into significant thematic sub-sections in which he uses a series of Basileia logia at incisive points to highlight aspects of Jesus' teaching and healing mission. In this way, Matthew is able to portray Jesus, as God's promised Messiah, who instructs his disciples through discourse and narrative, hence in word and example, in the nature and demands of God's sovereign rule. By structuring his Gospel as a story, Matthew depicts Jesus giving instructions to his disciples and also instructs the readers of the text. Hence, Matthew's Gospel becomes a manual of instruction on the nature and demands of God's sovereignty. Its purpose is to ensure that not only the members of the Matthean community, but all future disciples of Jesus are competently trained to carry out Jesus' commission: "Go therefore and disciple all the nations ..." (28:19-20). In this way, the goods news of God's saving presence is proclaimed to all the nations until God's eschatological reign is finally established. LNTS 308

The Meaning Of Water written by Veronica Strang and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-03 with Social Science categories.

Water is the most valuable resource and the most passionately contested. Drought has become an increasingly extreme problem in many parts of the world, and it is predicted that 60% of the major cities in Europe will run short of water in the next decade. In industrialized countries per capita water usage continues to rise intractably, despite strenuous efforts by environmentalists and resource managers to encourage conservation. Conflicts over water and environmental degradation from the overuse of resources are intensifying. Water is not merely a physical resource: in every cultural context it is densely encoded with social, spiritual, political and environmental meanings, and these have a powerful effect upon patterns of water use and upon the relationships between water users and suppliers. This book makes an in-depth analysis of the meanings of water and considers how they are experienced and formed at an individual and societal level. Focusing on the River Stour in Dorset, Strang draws upon a wide range of data: ethnographic research, cultural mapping, local archives and folklore. She explores the controversies surrounding water ownership and management, and the social and political questions raised by water privatization in the UK. The topical nature of these issues and their global relevance make this book a vital contribution to contemporary research on water and an essential read for anyone with an interest in getting under the surface of one of the worlds most important social and environmental issues.
