The Camino de Santiago is an ancient path from St Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, walked by ten of thousands of pilgrims since medieval times. Also known as the Way of St James and the Camino Frances, it covers a distance of almost 800km. To absorb the history, to touch the old stone of the buildings and bridges, to walk the path built over the centuries, to see the variety if architectural styles, from Roman and Moorish to medieval, to Gothic and Renaissance, and to be immersed in some of the most breathtakingly beautiful landscapes - is a journey for heart and soul. For many, the Camino is undertaken with a clear purpose, whether personal, emotional or spiritual. To others it is a challenge in terms of fitness and stamina, to achieve a goal. For experience trekkers Kim and Malcolm Wells, it became a powerfully spiritual journey, and the common bond of peace and friendship formed amount the many pilgrims they met was one of the most rewarding aspects of the experience.

I'm not one with a reputation for walking around very much, not if I could help it anyway.I'm not in the habit of personally recreating the films of Martin Sheen either, but a chance viewing of "The Way" changed all that. Somewhat strangely, the touching tale of a father who treks across Spain in tribute to a son who has passed away on a pilgrimage lit a spark in me that just would not go out. That spark, a desire to follow in Martin Sheen's footsteps on the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela, burned ever brighter in my mind until I set aside the last few weeks of my 40s to travel to the south of France and start my own Camino de Santiago.Of course, I soon discovered that the Hollywood version of The Way of St James was not much like the real thing. For one thing, there were a lot more flies.Actually, the real Camino was more of an adventure than I could ever have dreamt. Things kept happening - things that I might never have believed if I'd seen them on screen. It was truly a challenge at times - physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. But even while still on the Way, I somehow already knew that the aches and pains and the bites and blisters would soon pass, leaving me forever changed, and with only the better aspects of the experience residing in my heart and soul. Here's what happened, written as recorded at the time, in diary form.

Camino De Santiago In 20 Days written by Randall St. Germain and has been published by Wolf Shield Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-10 with Religion categories.

Funny, touching, and inspiring! A book about really walking the Camino de Santiago! Perhaps it was the onset of middle-age or just too much diet cola, but in the Spring of 2010, Canadian boy, Randall St. Germain felt called to take on the 800 kilometer, or 500 mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage from St. Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Seriously, what ensued was a dedication to his mother, a personal challenge, and a journey of cultural and historical enlightenment. A million footsteps, and a few pounds of gauze and tape later, he arrived in Santiago de Compostela, with a better understanding of himself - and a newfound familiarity with snoring and flatulent pilgrims! Join St. Germain on his adventure in Camino de Santiago In 20 Days, an irreverently chuckle-inducing look at one man's attempt at the famed walk as he confronts apocalyptic weather, snarling dogs, epic blisters, an exhausted body, and his greatest paranoia in life-bed bugs. Along with his humorous reflections, there is practical insight into how he successfully prepared, packed, and then walked across the entire French Way in 20 days - and in doing so, pushed far beyond his personal comfort zone. Never to be included on the final list of Pulitzer Prize nominees, or in Oprah's Book Club, Camino de Santiago in 20 Days is not your granddaddy's Camino book, either. One word of caution: Pilgrim Discretion is Advised.

In 1521 Ignatius of Loyola decided to change his life, and he became a pilgrim, setting out for Jerusalem. Ignatius the pilgrim lived radically: traveling on foot, seeking reconciliation, and striving for interior transformation through a deep encounter with God. Through this book modern pilgrims can follow his example and the route he took to Manresa, Spain, near Barcelona. The route began in the castle of the Loyola family, where young Ignatius, the wounded soldier, was recovering from injuries received in battle. His body was broken, but his heart was ardent as he longed to recuperate and to rebuild his life. What should he do with himself? What is the true path to happiness? Should he pursue a career in the king's court or follow some other course? These were the questions Ignatius was asking himself. He was experiencing a sixteenth-century identity crisis, which was in many ways like the twenty-first-century version. This book is a guide to Ignatius' experiences of conversion, healing, and freedom. It includes accounts by various people who have taken the Ignatian Way and offers guidance for planning and embarking on a similar pilgrimage, with some help from the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius. Anyone can use this book to create his own way, even without leaving home, for as Ignatius says, the fundamental goal of the pilgrim is to come into contact with his inner source of light and happiness—God the Creator.

The St. Francis Camino (also known as the Way of St. Francis) is a spiritual walking pilgrimage in the footsteps of St. Francis through central Italy between Laverna and Rome. It can be walked either north or south. This edition conceives of the walk beginning in Greccio, site of the first Nativity scene, and finishing with the goal of Assisi. Divided into ten stages, the 160-km trek is an intimate way to connect spiritually with the humble saint from Assisi by walking on the same land he walked. This guidebook offers practical tips regarding packing, traveling in Italy, setting up GPX tracks, as well as obtaining the Pilgrim's Passport and Testimonium. Each stage includes daily distances, altitude gains and losses, surface type, duration, and level of difficulty. Next is a brief description of the stage with useful notes as well as a succinct textual description of the route. Lastly, there is a list of Franciscan and spiritual sites along each day's route. Yet, this book is intended to serve more as a spiritual, or Franciscan, companion book. As such, it focuses less on step-by-step instructions and more on the spiritual aspect of pilgrimage. With a foreword by the Archbishop of Lucca, Mons. Paolo Giulietti, this book includes essays on spirituality, daily Franciscan reflections, writings and prayers by St. Francis as well as the early Franciscan biographers. Additionally, there are traditional Catholic and Franciscan prayers for guidance before, during and after the journey. Walking in the footsteps of the "Poverello" -- from Greccio, representing the birth of Christ, to Assisi, his city -- is an unparalleled journey into the heart and spirit of St. Francis. And this book will bring it to life.

The Ignatian Way is connected with the thousand-year-old tradition of making pilgrimages. In 1521 Ignatius of Loyola decided to change his life, and to do that he became a pilgrim, setting out for Jerusalem. Ignatius the pilgrim lived radically: seeking reconciliation, with austerity, on foot, being open to interior transformation and a deep encounter with God. Ignatius was a pilgrim of his time, and today in this work we join with the pilgrims of all times on this new route. In the castle of the Loyola family was a young Ignatius with his body badly wounded from war, but his heart ardent, hoping to recuperate and to remake his life. That is where it all began: What should I do now? What is the true path to happiness? Should I pursue a future in the King's court? Ignatius had reached a crisis. Sixteenth-century questions that we have today as well. This book was written as a guide to offer Ignatius' experience to modern pilgrims. In it the pilgrim will find accounts by various modern pilgrims and guidance by which to plan and to have your own spiritually transforming experience, following the lead of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. Every pilgrim can use these instructions freely and create your own way, since, as Ignatius tells us, the most fundamental thing is to come into contact with our inner source of light and happiness, our Creator who seeks also to encounter his Creation. The testimonies collected here help us to understand the Ignatius Way as an interior way of healing, conversion and freedom.
