In a world that has become so inundated with self-help books that offer a number of clichs and mantras to assist us in life, Christians have often forgotten that the Word in which we profess to stand in possesses the power in which we need. We have even permitted scripture to become a habitual part of our lives, diluting the power of the precepts we have been taught. Can Do Power: Embracing the Blessings of Philippians 4:13 is the first of several books in a series that seeks to remind you of that power.

This book is sent out to induce people to look at their own eyes, to pick up the gold in their laps, to study anatomy under the tutorship of their own hearts. One could accumulate great wisdom and secure fortunes by studying his own finger-nails. This lesson seems the very easiest to learn, and for that reason is the most difficult. In a world that values power above all else, we need to rethink God. It’s not just better athletes and bigger engines, but weapons of mass destruction, assault rifles, lethal drugs. Our obsession with stronger, faster, more and bigger everything is killing us—and at the top of this power pyramid an all-powerful God validates it all. For those who want a theology justifying the power game in all its forms, omnipotence is the perfect pretext, but for a growing segment of our modern, scientific world, the notion of an all-controlling deity sounds increasingly superstitious, tribalistic. People of faith must do better. Our world needs a God whose nature is love, not all-controlling power. That God, the God who can’t, is even more powerful. The survival of the world—even the future of God—may depend on us learning to say, “God always does everything God can do.”

Levers Of Power written by Kevin A. Young and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-07 with Political Science categories.

Understanding the power of the corporations and how to take the struggle directly to them It's no secret that "the 1%" - the business elite that commands the largest corporations and the connected network of public and private institutions- exercise enormous control over U.S. government. While this control is usually attributed to campaign donations and lobbying, Levers of Power argues that corporate power derives from control over the economic resources on which daily life depends. Government officials must constantly strive to keep capitalists happy, lest they go on "capital strike" - that is, refuse to invest in particular industries or locations, or move their holdings to other countries - and therefore impose material hardship on specific groups or the economy as a whole. For this reason, even politicians who are not dependent on corporations for their electoral success must fend off the interruption of corporate investment. Levers of Power documents the pervasive power of corporations and other institutions with decision-making control over large pools of capital, particularly the Pentagon. It also shows that the most successful reform movements in recent U.S. history - for workers' rights, for civil rights, and against imperialist wars - succeeded by directly targeting the corporations and other institutional adversaries that initiated and benefitted from oppressive policies. Though most of today's social movements focus on elections and politicians, movements of the "99%" are most effective when they inflict direct costs on corporations and their allied institutions. This strategy is also more conducive to building a revolutionary mass movement that can replace current institutions with democratic alternatives.
