When Zoom worship emerged in Britain during the COVID lockdown of 2020, Christians quickly turned to an art form, a form of theater, to deliver their worship. It was a quest for immanence, the very thing the Reformation dealt with by the elevation of transcendence. What an intriguing thought: Could John Calvin with his dictum regarding piety have practiced Zoom worship? Served as he was with the principle that the finite cannot contain the infinite, we must admit it looks very unlikely! At least in this Calvin saw eye-to-eye with Erasmus, but what of Luther? He may have been a comfortable Zoom worshiper, with his views that "Religious artworks are neither here nor there" and "We may have them or not as we please." Little did the church realize that it would be a step back into the past, because "what you permit you promote." The desire to use images was much more sinister than in Medieval times, as these were now images of ourselves! Regardless of the age, the image reigns supreme. What had caused the demise? Was it bereavement? It could not be bereavement of God; rather, it was the loss of the social, the bereavement of "one another." The need for "one-anothering" had forced the hand of Christians to turn to a practice completely untested. Zoom worship was born--the genie is out, and will never go back in. But in the face of the now-acceptable force of contemporary narcissism, who cares?

Building A Pyramid Of Understanding written by Burton Wilbur and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-21 with categories.

We have all struggled to understand our relationship to God and it really is more than spiritual fire insurance. This relationship is the most important relationship anyone will ever have and yet the least understood by most people. I can only take in so much information at any given time, which causes me to break down information into useable sizes and formats. In this case Building a Pyramid of Understanding helps to give shape to thoughts and spiritual truths. In an effort to breakdown the understandings of God four triangles are revealed. These are summarized in the first four chapters revealing the aspects of God, Man, Temptation, and Christian Service. The pyramid is only being used as a complex shape to signify the complex relationship between God and Man. When you see the four aspects as triangles laid together they form a pyramid. If you see that pyramid horizontally cut into three sections, you will find three squares revealed signifying the three relationships to God. The basis of this writing is to serve as a tool in understanding the relationship of God to man according to the scriptures. This is in no way intended to promote some mystical relationship to pyramids. It is intended to provoke thought and introspection for the individual toward God. For years I heard it said, "We need to know the vertical relationship with God and the horizontal relationship with man, which symbolizes the Cross of Calvary." Where such thought originated is unknown to me. It also limits us to a two-dimensional relationship with a multi-dimensional God and His complex creations. In reality it is the type of thought that says, "I'm saved so everything is okay!" The fact is that your salvation is more than fire insurance. The call of God on your life goes deeper than simply meeting temporal needs. God is calling each of us to look at life through the many angles He created, in order to find the path He wants us to walk through life, the path we're called to uniquely walk throughout life's journey. We are not called to march in step with an earthly army of unthinking believers; we are called to uniquely walk in Him. My prayer is that this writing helps someone on the journey God has called them to walk.

Reading While Black written by Esau McCaulley and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-01 with Religion categories.

Growing up in the American South, Esau McCaulley knew firsthand the ongoing struggle between despair and hope that marks the lives of some in the African American context. A key element in the fight for hope, he discovered, has long been the practice of Bible reading and interpretation that comes out of traditional Black churches. This ecclesial tradition is often disregarded or viewed with suspicion by much of the wider church and academy, but it has something vital to say. Reading While Black is a personal and scholarly testament to the power and hope of Black biblical interpretation. At a time in which some within the African American community are questioning the place of the Christian faith in the struggle for justice, New Testament scholar McCaulley argues that reading Scripture from the perspective of Black church tradition is invaluable for connecting with a rich faith history and addressing the urgent issues of our times. He advocates for a model of interpretation that involves an ongoing conversation between the collective Black experience and the Bible, in which the particular questions coming out of Black communities are given pride of place and the Bible is given space to respond by affirming, challenging, and, at times, reshaping Black concerns. McCaulley demonstrates this model with studies on how Scripture speaks to topics often overlooked by white interpreters, such as ethnicity, political protest, policing, and slavery. Ultimately McCaulley calls the church to a dynamic theological engagement with Scripture, in which Christians of diverse backgrounds dialogue with their own social location as well as the cultures of others. Reading While Black moves the conversation forward.
