In December 2010, Julian Assange signed a contract with Canongate Books to write a book – part memoir, part manifesto – for publication the following year. At the time, Julian said: ‘I hope this book will become one of the unifying documents of our generation. In this highly personal work, I explain our global struggle to force a new relationship between the people and their governments.’ In the end, the work was to prove too personal. Despite sitting for more than fifty hours of taped interviews and spending many late nights at Ellingham Hall (where he was living under house arrest) discussing his life and the work of WikiLeaks with the writer he had enlisted to help him, Julian became increasingly troubled by the thought of publishing an autobiography. After reading the first draft of the book at the end of March, Julian declared: ‘All memoir is prostitution.’ In June 2011, with thirty-eight publishing houses around the world committed to releasing the book, Julian told us he wanted to cancel his contract. We disagree with Julian’s assessment of the book. We believe it explains both the man and his work, underlining his commitment to the truth. Julian always claimed the book was well written; we agree, and this also encouraged us to make the book available to readers. And the contract? By the time Julian wanted to cancel the deal he had already used the advance money to settle his legal bills. So the contract still stands. We have decided to honour it – and to publish. This book is the unauthorised first draft. It is passionate, provocative and opinionated – like its author. It fulfils the promise of the original proposal and we are proud to publish it. The Revolt Of The Public And The Crisis Of Authority In The New Millennium written by Martin Gurri and has been published by Stripe Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-04 with Political Science categories.

How insurgencies—enabled by digital devices and a vast information sphere—have mobilized millions of ordinary people around the world. In the words of economist and scholar Arnold Kling, Martin Gurri saw it coming. Technology has categorically reversed the information balance of power between the public and the elites who manage the great hierarchical institutions of the industrial age: government, political parties, the media. The Revolt of the Public tells the story of how insurgencies, enabled by digital devices and a vast information sphere, have mobilized millions of ordinary people around the world. Originally published in 2014, The Revolt of the Public is now available in an updated edition, which includes an extensive analysis of Donald Trump’s improbable rise to the presidency and the electoral triumphs of Brexit. The book concludes with a speculative look forward, pondering whether the current elite class can bring about a reformation of the democratic process and whether new organizing principles, adapted to a digital world, can arise out of the present political turbulence.

Marked for Death Fanatics, terrorists, and appeasers have tried everything to silence Geert Wilders, Europe’s most controversial Member of Parliament—from putting him on trial to putting a price on his head. But Wilders refuses to be silenced—and one result is the book you have in your hands. For years, from his native Netherlands, Wilders has sounded the alarm about the relentless spread of Islam in the West. And he has paid a steep personal price, enduring countless death threats and being forced into a permanent state of hiding. Now, for the first time, Wilders offers a full account of his long battle against the zealots who have already slaughtered his countryman Theo van Gogh—whose killer also threatened to murder Wilders himself. In Marked for Death, Wilders reveals: How—and why—liberal politicians, including Barack Obama, downplay the Islamic threat The systematic suppression of free speech through lawsuits, prosecutions, threats, and violence meted out against Islam’s critics The untold story: how Islamic groups are redefining human rights to suppress non-Muslims everywhere The true, bloody history of Islam’s spread throughout the world How the West can defend itself against an existential enemy determined to conquer the globe Expelled from Britain, banned from Indonesia, denounced by the UN Secretary General, prosecuted in court for his beliefs, forced into government safe houses, and constantly threatened with death, Geert Wilders is unbowed and unapologetic. Marked for Death is a stark warning about a growing threat to our liberties written by a man who has lost his freedom—and would not see the rest of us suffer the same fate.

In An Instant written by Kim Mooney and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-03 with Self-Help categories.

This book recounts the stories of nine ordinary people. In an instant their lives changed forever. These are their stories of how resilience and courage helped them find a way forward. Through their stories, the concept of resilience and courage are explored. Each story is unique and how their resilience and courage emerged is equally unique. Experts in the field of reliance and grit talk about key factors that support a resilient nature. Having a good circle of friends, having a purpose in life, and understanding yourself are just a few. I learned that a sense of humour was also critical. Each person described at least one moment when laughter eased the sadness. And for a couple of my storytellers, belief in a higher power was essential. How and when these elements surfaced was different for each person. Being resilient reminded them that despite that tragic instant, their lives were worth living and they would find a path forward where the sun would shine again. Loss touches all of us. Resilience and courage are what get us through. As you read the stories in this book, you will be reminded of how strong you are—how in the face of loss, you found a way forward.
