Captive To Christ Open To The World written by Brian Brock and has been published by Lutterworth Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-26 with Religion categories.

In this wide-ranging and engaging collection of interviews, Brian Brock discusses how Christian faith makes a difference for life in the modern world. Beginning with a discussion of teaching Christian ethics in the contemporary academy, Brock takes up environmental questions, political and medical ethics, the modern city and Christian responsibility to it, energy use, the information age, agriculture, political consensus and coercion, and many other issues. The reader is thus offered a broad and incisivediscussion of many contemporary topics in a brief, illuminating, but never superfcial manner. The book's unusual conversational style allows strikingly clear, creative, and concrete theological connections to emerge in the spaces between moral questions rarely thought of as linked. As the title suggests, the running theme of the interviews is being bound to Christ and placed into the contemporary world. Brock's theological readings of contemporary cultural trends are vigorous, unapologetic, and insightful, and they offer delightful surprises as well as fertile new ways through the sterile impasses of many issues currently being debated in the public square. This book provides an excellent starting point for those interested in fresh theological insights into contemporary ethical questions and an accessible introduction to Brock's previous works.

The Virtual Body Of Christ In A Suffering World written by Deanna A. Thompson and has been published by Abingdon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-01 with Religion categories.

We live in a wired world where 24/7 digital connectivity is increasingly the norm. Christian megachurch communities often embrace this reality wholeheartedly while more traditional churches often seem hesitant and overwhelmed by the need for an interactive website, a Facebook page and a twitter feed. This book accepts digital connectivity as our reality, but presents a vision of how faith communities can utilize technology to better be the body of Christ to those who are hurting while also helping followers of Christ think critically about the limits of our digital attachments. This book begins with a conversion story of a non-cell phone owning, non-Facebook using religion professor judgmental of the ability of digital tools to enhance relationships. A stage IV cancer diagnosis later, in the midst of being held up by virtual communities of support, a conversion occurs: this religion professor benefits in embodied ways from virtual sources and wants to convert others to the reality that the body of Christ can and does exist virtually and makes embodied difference in the lives of those who are hurting. The book neither uncritically embraces nor rejects the constant digital connectivity present in our lives. Rather it calls on the church to a) recognize ways in which digital social networks already enact the virtual body of Christ; b) tap into and expand how Christ is being experienced virtually; c) embrace thoughtfully the material effects of our new augmented reality, and c) influence utilization of technology that minimizes distraction and maximizes attentiveness toward God and the world God loves.

The Opening Of The Christian Mind written by David W. Gill and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-30 with Religion categories.

David Gill’s writing of The Opening of the Christian Mind (1989) was prodded by the bestseller The Closing of the American Mind (1987) by cultural critic Allan Bloom. There should be no “closed minds” among the followers of Jesus Christ, insisted Gill, a Cal Berkeley grad of the late sixties with a PhD from the University of Southern California. But far from being reactive, Opening is a positive manifesto and guidebook for “thinking Christianly,” for developing authentic Christian minds, not just in the academy but the workplace, not just in pursuit of truth but of love and justice. Gill explores six characteristics of a Christian mind, its applications to study and work, and the curricula and strategy to achieve it.

The Book of Revelation is not about the destruction of the world. It is about the revealing of Jesus Christ, in you. "Chapter 1, Verse 1" explores the manifestation of Christ within us by providing a verse by verse explanation of the symbolism found in the Book of Revelation. It explains how and why this last book of the Bible reveals the mystery of God, Christ in you. Here is the return of Jesus Christ, the one who said, "…I am with you always." Christ is revealed in us, to us and through us.
