Imagine a sports-mad culture, deep into Eastern spirituality, political globalism, and religious syncretism. Where women, finding child-rearing an inconvenience, abandon or abort their babies. A society where divorce and remarriage touches everyone. Imagine a society overrun by sexual deviancy and perversion. Sound familiar? It would sound familiar to the apostle Paul. The culture to which he ministered so effectively resembled our planetary culture -- almost decadent point for point. But what should encourage Christians today is that Paul, understanding the times, knew how to reach the culture for Christ. And he can teach us the rules of engagement today. Capturing the Pagan Mind helps us look to an old rabbi, who is still relevant, wise, and powerful and who still tells pagans who their "unknown god" really is -- their Creator and Redeemer Book jacket.

Seeking A Revival Culture written by Allen M. Baker III and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07-01 with Religion categories.

The great burden of Al Baker's life, that which drives him in Christian ministry more than anything else, is to see the church of the Lord Jesus Christ rise up and become mighty as she has been so often in past years. One thing has become very clear to Baker--the western church is in big trouble. Many pastors are terribly discouraged in their ministries. So are their people. Pastors have been told that they can model their ministries after whoever the latest and hottest preacher is, and all will be well with them, that they can expect exponential growth in their churches. With few exceptions, this has not been their experience. They have attended the seminars and read the latest books, but they have little to show for their efforts. As a pastor, Baker is heartbroken over the vastness of people's problems in today's church--everything from incest, child molestation, homosexuality, pornography, severe depression, suicide, divorce, wayward children, adultery, fornication, and more. The pastoral problems are epidemic. The Christian faith in American churches is woefully lacking. Church people are generally no different from those of the world. What are we to do? We need revival. We need a revival culture in the western church. We need, like Israel laboring under Egyptian bondage, to become intolerable of our circumstances. Israel cried out to the Lord when their slavery became intolerable to them. May God move us to divine discontent, to be dissatisfied with the status quo!

Too often skeptics charge Christians with having a blind faith. Unfortunately, believers have added fuel to the charges of skeptics by speaking of their faith illogically. But the Christian faith is not a blind faith. In fact, biblical faith is never a blind, irrational faith. Christianity rests firmly on the stone that was rejected by the builders, which has become the cornerstone--Jesus Christ (Acts 4:11). Living biblically requires thinking biblically, just as "to think biblically entails to live biblically," as Winfried Corduan notes in the Foreword. As followers of Christ, believers cannot separate biblical thinking and biblical living. These two behaviors are eternally connected not only in the person of Jesus Christ, but they stem from the eternal being of God the Father and his eternal truth. Christ mandates that his followers love God with their entire being--heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). How are believers to go about living out this biblical mandate? Christian faith is a warranted belief. This is why it is so essential that Christians recognize the value and importance of philosophy and its proper place in Christendom and in the Christian's walk.

“The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Rev 19:10) and a prophetic perspective promotes purpose. Yet in a world swiftly growing callous, true purpose and meaning are fading. Many of Jesus’ disciples today have “lost their first love,” which is Jesus himself (Rev 2:4). And too many souls overall miss the wonder, inspiration, and comfort gained by those who would endeavor toward fuller comprehension of the book of Revelation: “Blessed are they who read and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near” (Rev 1:3). Neglect of the Holy Spirit, slothfulness, fear, and the ongoing confusion generated by competing interpretations and bad theology are the primary obstacles between an individual and the liberation to be had by reading the last book of the Bible. We must not forget that while the apostle John wrote the book of Revelation, its author is Jesus Christ, and he is not an author of confusion but of peace (1 Cor 14:33). This commentary presents a practical, discipleship-based perspective toward following Jesus into the very heart of his Revelation. So as the end of this clamorous age approaches, may we truly hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches!

American Theological Inquiry (ATI) reaches thousands of Christian scholars, clergy, and other interested parties, primarily in the U.S. and U.K. The journal was formed in 2007 by Gannon Murphy (PhD Theology, Univ. Wales, Lampeter; Presbyterian/Reformed) and Stephen Patrick (PhD Philosophy, Univ. Illinois; Eastern Orthodox) to open up space for Christian scholars who affirm the Ecumenical Creeds to contribute research throughout the broader Christian scholarly community in America and the West. The purpose of ATI is to provide an inter-tradition forum for scholars who affirm the historic Ecumenical Creeds of Christendom to constructively communicate contemporary theologies, developments, ideas, commentaries, and insights pertaining to theology, culture, and history toward reforming and elevating Western Christianity. ATI seeks a critical function as much or more so as a quasi-ecumenical one. The purpose is not to erase or weaken the distinctives of the various ecclesial traditions, but to widen the dialogue and increase inter-tradition understanding while mutually affirming Christ's power to transform culture and the importance of strengthening Western Christianity with special reference to Her historic, creedal roots. "Theologians, would-be theologians, and the theologically attentive will want to check out American Theological Inquiry." ~ Richard John Neuhaus (1936-2009), First Things
