Contemporary Bioethics written by Mohammed Ali Al-Bar and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-27 with Medical categories.

This book discusses the common principles of morality and ethics derived from divinely endowed intuitive reason through the creation of al-fitr' a (nature) and human intellect (al-‘aql). Biomedical topics are presented and ethical issues related to topics such as genetic testing, assisted reproduction and organ transplantation are discussed. Whereas these natural sources are God’s special gifts to human beings, God’s revelation as given to the prophets is the supernatural source of divine guidance through which human communities have been guided at all times through history. The second part of the book concentrates on the objectives of Islamic religious practice – the maqa' sid – which include: Preservation of Faith, Preservation of Life, Preservation of Mind (intellect and reason), Preservation of Progeny (al-nasl) and Preservation of Property. Lastly, the third part of the book discusses selected topical issues, including abortion, assisted reproduction devices, genetics, organ transplantation, brain death and end-of-life aspects. For each topic, the current medical evidence is followed by a detailed discussion of the ethical issues involved.

Steps Toward A Planning Framework For Elder Care In The Arab World written by William B. Ward and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-15 with Family & Relationships categories.

This book reviews the elder care literature pertaining to the Arab world and proposes steps that can be taken to improve the health and quality of life of older people in this region. Organized in three main sections (Program Assessment, Program Planning, Conclusions and Recommendations), the book addresses such topics as developing a conceptual framework; Arab world elder demographics; quality of life issues; demand for services; training issues; training capacity and capabilities; and conclusions and recommendations for improving the health of older persons in the Arab world. While the countries of the Arab world have the advantage of a unified language and culture that can be used to expedite development of area-wide approaches to a system of elder care, the lack of economic and political unification (such as common market and open trade) along with institutionalized age discrimination (some Arab countries restrict hiring for government and private jobs to persons younger than 45) present barriers to improving the health of older people. In addition, modernization and ease of transportation have resulted in a heavy focus on Western-style fast food, with an accompanying increase in chronic diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.

When I was only starting the therapeutic work with the Middle Eastern patients, I was looking for some kind of guidance to enable my genuine understanding of the Muslim patient cases. However, the material was scarce, haphazardly scattered, and mostly referring to the traditional therapies. That was not helpful and was even more confusing. With time, I managed to amass my own systemized data based on regular observations, practical cases, reflections, and exchanges with the colleagues. This material helped me to approach each case individually while respecting the cultural environment of a patient. Eventually, the book was published. This is the kind of book that I have always wanted to find, and I had to write it eventually by myself. The work contains the systematized knowledge on the evolution of scientific psychology in the Islamic world, which starts with the prophetic times and continues until now. The book reveals the signifiers, which form a structure of a Muslim psyche. It also exposes the recurrent mental health complaints of the Arab patients and investigates their unconscious roots. The book is intended, first of all, for professionals who are directly related to the Muslim mental health-care system. Secondly, it is for anyone who is considering undergoing a personal analysis. And certainly, the edition is for everyone interested in the subject. This book does not intend to bring the answers. It rather continues the dialogue regarding the necessity of creating the psychological-counseling culture in the Muslim world.
