Based on hundreds of interviews with Manitoba farm men and women, Making Ends Meet reconstructs the common history shared by modern farm women as well as by their mothers and grandmothers. It explores women's changing roles on the farm, from the early days of the Red River settlement to the twentieth-century farm community. The women's own stories reveal their ingenuity and tenacity in "making ends meet" through economies, shared, labour, and generation of new resource income as varied as raising poultry and custom woodworking. These stories prove that the contributions of farm women have been vital in establishing and maintaining the family farm, and are critical to its continued survival.

A wealthy woman named Dola decided to address some larger problems faced by the US. She knew she could not work alone on such big issues, so she recruited a group of seven young people in their late twenties. The group became known as Team Dola. She explained that the group of seven would not do all the work on a selected project. Instead, the group would recruit experts who could do most of the work. In other words, Team Dola would initiate a project that others would implement. Their first of four projects involved desalinating Pacific Ocean water and pumping the fresh water into rivers to supplement irrigation. The second project addressed the problem of wildfires by replacing traditional controlled burning with mulching. A third project arose from their concern for missing persons. The fourth project addressed the problem of sinking cities, with focus on New Orleans. The young members of Team Dola approach their tasks using unconventional and offbeat methods with surprising successes. They engage allies from multiple government agencies, members of the Navajo Nation, California farmers, and even Louisiana politicians. They also manage to have fun and experience romances and disappointments, all while growing into a close-knit formidable team that successfully addresses our nation's pressing problems.

• Shares Tom’s profound teachings on life, death, and unconditional love gained through his near-death experiences and direct encounter with the Light • Includes more than 160 true and remarkable stories about Tom completing his mission to spread God’s Unconditional Love • Details Tom’s death experiences and how in 2007, when he felt he had fulfilled his mission from God, he consciously left life on Earth In the early evening of May 23, 1978, while making repairs under his pick-up truck full of firewood, the heavy truck crashed down on Tom Sawyer, crushing his chest flat. A 33-year-old Olympic-trained bike racer and mechanic, Tom was clinically dead. Fifteen minutes later, he came back to life, recounting his strange experience of going through a tunnel, having his life review, and meeting the Light. Spiritually energized by this experience and endowed with supernatural abilities, Tom demonstrated repeatedly that the reality we believe in is an illusion, that walls are not necessarily barriers, severe health challenges can be healed in a moment, and it is possible to walk on water. During his death experience, Tom was charged by God with a three-part mission: teach that death does not exist, prevent nuclear war, and promote the Order of Melchizedek, in which he became a highly respected teacher. Through more than 160 remarkable stories, Rev. Daniel Chesbro and Rev. James B. Erickson share Tom’s profound and enlightening insights on life, death, and Unconditional Love. The most complete and in-depth account of the life and teachings of Tom Sawyer, this book reveals Tom as a modern-day messenger of God who returned to life a powerful conduit of Unconditional Love, compelled to create positive change for humanity.

When God Was A Bird written by Mark I. Wallace and has been published by Fordham Univ Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-20 with Religion categories.

In a time of rapid climate change and species extinction, what role have the world’s religions played in ameliorating—or causing—the crisis we now face? Religion in general, and Christianity in particular, appears to bear a disproportionate burden for creating humankind’s exploitative attitudes toward nature through unearthly theologies that divorce human beings and their spiritual yearnings from their natural origins. In this regard, Christianity has become an otherworldly religion that views the natural world as “fallen,” as empty of signs of God’s presence. And yet, buried deep within the Christian tradition are startling portrayals of God as the beaked and feathered Holy Spirit – the “animal God,” as it were, of historic Christian witness. Through biblical readings, historical theology, continental philosophy, and personal stories of sacred nature, this book recovers the model of God in Christianity as a creaturely, avian being who signals the presence of spirit in everything, human and more-than-human alike. Mark Wallace’s recovery of the bird-God of the Bible signals a deep grounding of faith in the natural world. The moral implications of nature-based Christianity are profound. All life is deserving of humans’ care and protection insofar as the world is envisioned as alive with sacred animals, plants, and landscapes. From the perspective of Christian animism, the Earth is the holy place that God made and that humankind is enjoined to watch over and cherish in like manner. Saving the environment, then, is not a political issue on the left or the right of the ideological spectrum, but, rather, an innermost passion shared by all people of faith and good will in a world damaged by anthropogenic warming, massive species extinction, and the loss of arable land, potable water, and breathable air. To Wallace, this passion is inviolable and flows directly from the heart of Christian teaching that God is a carnal, fleshy reality who is promiscuously incarnated within all things, making the whole world a sacred embodiment of God’s presence, and worthy of our affectionate concern. This beautifully and accessibly written book shows that “Christian animism” is not a strange oxymoron, but Christianity’s natural habitat. Challenging traditional Christianity’s self-definition as an other-worldly religion, Wallace paves the way for a new Earth-loving spirituality grounded in the ancient image of an animal God.
