The present catalogue is the second of three volumes which record the books printed before 1801 currently held by the legal historical section of the Biblioteca di Scienze Sociali of the Università degli Studi di Firenze. This volume encompasses 2,424 editions published between 1601 and 1700. The present Florence library is the successor to that of the Facoltà di Giurisprudenza, the nucleus of which is the historic collection of the Collegio degli Avvocati di Firenze acquired in 1924. Supplemented by further important acquisitions, including the library of the Corte d'Appello, the collection has come to be numbered among the foremost in its field in Italy. The 17th century volume reflects primarily the Jurisprudence of the Baroque, the vast production of the jurists of Spain and Italy, but is by no means lacking in editions of the foremost jurists of contemporary Northern Europe.

The present catalogue seeks to provide a comprehensive record of the 1,532 editions printed in the 15th and 16th centuries held in the legal historical section of the Biblioteca di Scienze Sociali of the Università degli Studi di Firenze. This library is the successor to that of the Facoltà di Giurisprudenza, the nucleus of which remains the historic collection of the Collegio degli Avvocati di Firenze acquired in 1924. Supplemented by further important acquisitions, including the library of the Corte di Appello di Firenze, the collection has come to be numbered among the foremost in its fi eld in Italy. It exhibits a wide range not only of the famous medieval authors of the ius commune, but also of the growing number of contemporary 16th century jurists.

Il volume presenta la corrispondenza, tra la fine degli anni cinquanta e il termine del decennio successivo, tra il premio Nobel Giulio Natta e un giovane Enzo Ferroni, uno dei fondatori della “chimica applicata al restauro”. Il lavoro ha consentito di recuperare a quasi sessant’anni di distanza il ricordo di Ferroni ricercatore d’avanguardia anche nel campo delle macromolecole e la possibilità offertagli da Natta di un prestigioso posto di lavoro presso il suo istituto a Milano. Questo volume ricostruisce le vicende della libreria privata del marchese suddecano Gabriello Riccardi (1705-1798), che alla fine del suo sviluppo confluirà e si fonderà con quella della Famiglia, oggi nota come Biblioteca Riccardiana. La ricerca si è concentrata in particolare sul fondo manoscritti, che ne costituiva decisamente la parte più rilevante e preziosa. Il risultato finale del presente studio ha prodotto sia un catalogo topografico, che ricostruisce la disposizione fisica che tali manoscritti avevano nella loro sede originaria, sia un catalogo alfabetico, secondo l’originale settecentesco. Nel saggio storico si evidenziano infine le vicende che hanno portato questa celebre libreria, ormai unificata per volontà di Gabriello, a salvarsi dalla dispersione e a rimanere intatta quale noi oggi la conosciamo. The diaries of the cavalry lieutenant Carlo Ricciardi (1916-1966) record personal events and impressions of the Second World War in Italy, Yugoslavia and Russia. They bring clearly to the fore the logistic difficulties encountered at the front, the clashes with the Croatian and German allies and the drama of the Russian defeat at the beginning of 1943. The commentary of the diaries is supplemented by a study on the role of soldiers in the resistance, of which Ricciardi was one of the protagonists in Lombardy. Analysis of a vast documentation, partly original, casts a new light on the resistance organisations in the North, on the close collaboration between partisans, the Finance police and the clandestine information services from the armistice up to the negotiations for the German surrender in Italy.
