"Morgan's return to music in the early to mid-sixties witnessed a tremendous evolution in his playing. Formerly a virtuoso in the model of his idol, Clifford Brown, Morgan brought to his critically acclaimed Blue Note records of the era an emotionally charged, muscular tone, full of poise and control. But it was with the record Sidewinder, recorded in 1963, that Morgan found his greatest fame and commercial success, due to the infectious groove of the title tune. By the time of his death, at thirty-three---murdered in a New York City club by his girlfriend Helen More, during a gig - Morgan had begun a new phase of his career, experimenting with freer-forms of musical expression."--BOOK JACKET.

The Pit Bull With the Heart of Gold Joe Dwyer was a man facing challenges that seemed insurmountable. Battling depression and anxiety, he was broken and in need of serious help. Shelby was a young pit bull facing death. Damaged and abused, she trusted no one. She was confined to a shelter and in need of major surgery to repair her hind legs. When man and dog first met it wasn't love at first sight-at least not for the dog. But in time-and with a little magical help-the two grew to trust one another. When Joe finally brought Shelby home to join his family, he discovered something remarkable: She had an uncanny gift. Shelby was able to sympathize with and bring solace to individuals in need, including hospital patients, the elderly, the lonely and the bereaved. It was nothing short of amazing. But not everyone embraced this discovery. Facing stiff resistance, Joe fought to gain acceptance for Shelby as a therapy dog and they have enriched each other's lives and the lives of countless others who were in need of rescuing. "Sparkling with joy. Shelby saves Joe as much as he saves her, and together they recover their senses of purpose. Children and adults will love this story." Mary B. Lucas, author of Lunchmeat & Life Lessons "Most people think of pit bulls as monsters, but Joe shows how they are reflections of the people who raise them. A gorgeous story of friendship, trust and spiritual awakening." Tom Acierno, author of A Whisper in God's Ear "The way Joe accepted Shelby into his family and the way Shelby accepted them into her heart are reminders of what it means to love unconditionally." Marie B. Leonarde, author of A Woman's Worth: My Life, My Struggle About the Author Joe Dwyer is a motivational speaker, a life coach and a member of the National Speakers Association. He is also a dog trainer and martial artist. Previously, he worked as a chemical engineer and as an executive for Verizon and the Archdiocese of Newark. "This landmark book" (San Francisco Chronicle) dispels the common myths about the causes and uses of anger -- for example, that expressing anger is always good for you, that suppressing anger is always unhealthy, or that women have special "anger problems" that men do not. Dr. Carol Tavris expertly examines every facet of that fascinating emotion -- from genetics to stress to the rage for justice. Fully revised and updated, Anger: The Misunderstood Emotion now includes: * A new consideration of biological politics: Should testosterone or PMS excuse rotten tempers or aggressive actions? * The five conditions under which anger is likely to be effective -- and when it's not. * Strategies for solving specific anger problems -- chronic anger, dealing with difficult people, repeated family battles, anger after divorce or victimization, and aggressive children.

Becoming Noise Music written by Stephen Graham and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-12 with Music categories.

Becoming Noise Music tells the story of noise music in its first 50 years, using a focus on the music's sound and aesthetics to do so. Part One focuses on the emergence and stabilization of noise music across the 1980s and 1990s, whilst Part Two explores noise in the twenty-first century. Each chapter contextualizes – tells the story – of the music under discussion before describing and interpreting its sound and aesthetic. Stephen Graham uses the idea of 'becoming' to capture the unresolved 'dialectical' tension between 'noise' disorder and 'musical' order in the music itself; the experiences listeners often have in response; and the overarching 'story' or 'becoming' of the genre that has taken place in this first fifty or so years. The book therefore doubles up on becoming: it is about both the becoming it identifies in, and the larger, genre-making process of the becoming of, noise music. On the latter count, it is the first scholarly book to focus in such depth and breadth on the sound and story of noise music, as opposed to contextual questions of politics, history or sociology. Relevant to both musicology and noise audiences, Becoming Noise Music investigates a vital but analytically underexplored area of avant-garde musical practice.

Hysteria In Performance written by Jenn Cole and has been published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-15 with Performing Arts categories.

The nineteenth-century study of hysteria at the Salpêtrière hospital was a medical project, but also a theatrical one. The hysteric's public appearance was a continual ethical provocation, pointing not only to the vulnerability of her person but to the unstable position of her spectator. Hysteria in Performance sets out to uncover what kind of performance the hysterical attack is, as well as the nature of hysteria in and as performance as it occurred at Salpêtrière. The Salpêtrière documents undeniably show the gravity of the institutional violence committed against its female patients. Using the lenses of performance studies and performance theory, Jenn Cole expresses the overt and subtle damages done to hysterical women in Jean-Martin Charcot's hospital, drawing attention to the hysteric's resistance to these experiences: it is often simply by being herself that the hysteric points to the inherent weaknesses in these systemic modes of violence. In Hysteria in Performance, the hysteric becomes a figure who represents possibilities for ethical encounters within performance and everyday living. Revealing the fraught and exciting nature of theatrical representation, and continually drawing out the dilemmas and unexpected dynamics of witnessing the suffering of others, this groundbreaking study explores how Charcot's findings on hysteria produced a unique mixture of theatre and science that still has unexpected things to teach us.
