Rhodes was born in an English parsonage in 1853. The purpose of this book is to outline the methods by which the Rhodes Trustees have during the last forty years patiently met the problems presented by so new an experiment in international education, to explain the steps by which the American Scholarships have been made more and more successful, and to say what can be said about the record of the men at Oxford and in the United States after their return.
