International events, such as the UN Summit in Johannesburg (2002) and the Third World Water Forum in Kyoto (2003), re-emphasized the importance of meeting the difficult challenges related to the sustainable development of water and environment. There is a demand for direct action on improving water resources management and conserving natural resources, stressing the essential role of information and communication technologies in knowledge sharing and technology transfer. Artificial intelligence techniques are explored in this PhD research, deriving knowledge and rules from in-situ and remote sensing measurements. The Cellular Automata modelling paradigm is investigated with respect to characteristics of ecosystem simulation. Case studies included the Taihu Lake, China and Dutch coastal waters.

Hydroinformatics is an emerging subject that is expected to gather speed, momentum and critical mass throughout the forthcoming decades of the 21st century. This book provides a broad account of numerous advances in that field - a rapidly developing discipline covering the application of information and communication technologies, modelling and computational intelligence in aquatic environments. A systematic survey, classified according to the methods used (neural networks, fuzzy logic and evolutionary optimization, in particular) is offered, together with illustrated practical applications for solving various water-related issues. ...

Practising engineers on site, in the design office or in client organizations will find this book an excellent introduction to the design and construction of sprayed concrete lined (SCL) tunnels. The complex behaviour of the early age behaviour of the sprayed concrete requires careful management. This book covers all aspects of SCL tunnelling – from the constituents of sprayed concrete to detailed design and management during construction. Although there is a close interdependence between all the facets of sprayed concrete, few engineers have the right breadth of experience and expertise, and this urgently needs to be transferred to the wider engineering community. Disseminating essential information for tunnelling engineers, Sprayed Concrete Lined Tunnels is key reading for all involved in or studying the process.

Modeling Control And Optimization Of Water Systems written by Thomas Rauschenbach and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book provides essential background knowledge on the development of model-based real-world solutions in the field of control and decision making for water systems. It presents system engineering methods for modelling surface water and groundwater resources as well as water transportation systems (rivers, channels and pipelines). The models in turn provide information on both the water quantity (flow rates, water levels) of surface water and groundwater and on water quality. In addition, methods for modelling and predicting water demand are described. Sample applications of the models are presented, such as a water allocation decision support system for semi-arid regions, a multiple-criteria control model for run-of-river hydropower plants, and a supply network simulation for public services.
