Come And See written by David Keller and has been published by Church Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-03 with Religion categories.

Centering prayer, both a meditative technique and the experience of God’s presence in every waking moment, is a spiritual practice that all Christian continue to strive for. David Keller, close colleague of Thomas Keating and director of Keating’s Contemplative Ministry project, offers practical suggestions for personal prayer, addresses its difficulties, and reveals what is special about it in relation to other prayer traditions. Short but substantive, this book is for Christians looking for new insights about prayer and for people who are drawn to contemplation, but do not think the church has much to offer them. Above all, Keller emphasizes that it is the integration of personal prayer and our day-to-day activities that forms a life of prayer. Prayer is a life-long vocation, he reasons, not a separate compartment of life.

365 Day Prayer Devotional written every morning in real time from real life in a daily adventure of contemplative, centering prayer to start each day embraced by the love of the Father, centered in Jesus Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. "Good morning, Lord Jesus." For many years now, I've begun my morning prayer time with these first words on my heart. They've become my centering thought and my call to prayer, to start my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. As soon as I speak out these words, my spirit seems to come to attention to sense the Presence of the Lord and listen for the leading of the Holy Spirit to guide me in my time of intimacy with God at the beginning of my day. Then each morning, after I greet the Lord, I wait and listen. In my prayers, you'll see a .."." after I greet the Lord and begin to wait in the silence of surrender before Him in the deep communion of prayer. Sometimes that .."." lasts a few moments and sometimes it lasts half an hour. But I try to watch and wait to follow His leading for the adventure of prayer He has for me each morning. As the old hymn written by Rev. Thomas Chisholm and based on Lamentations 3:22-23 so beautifully says, "Great is Thy faithfulness. Great is Thy faithfulness. Morning by morning, new mercies I see." During this simple, quiet time of watching and waiting in contemplative prayer, the Holy Spirit so faithfully brings to mind a Scripture or allows me to picture an image with the eyes of my heart or speaks to my spirit in His still, small voice or however the Lord desires to reveal Himself to me that morning. Then I simply journal what I hear and pray, as He leads me on our adventure of prayer. As I say my "Amen," I send out my prayer from that day to the list of people that has grown over the years who join with me over the internet in this daily journey of prayer. So these prayers are written in real time from real life each day. This book is one year's worth of these prayers, selected from my journals over the past few years. It's a second edition, following my original book that was a collection of all my prayers from the first year of my devotional back in 2004. So I welcome you to come along with me in this daily journey of prayer, seeking the Lord's voice, listening for His voice, and embracing His Presence, in the deep communion of contemplative prayer. May you be encouraged each day by our great and faithful God in His new mercies for you, Morning by Morning! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays San Antonio, Texas December 2016

“Contemplative Youth Ministry is refreshing rain for dry youth workers and barren youth ministries. More than the same old youth ministry tips and tricks, it gives principles and practices to soak in God’s grace, love, and power. I wish I had read it 15 years ago.” - Kara Powell, Ph.D., executive director, Center for Youth Ministry and Family Ministry, Fuller Theological Seminary “Mark invites readers to be encountered by the presence of Jesus who is always near. This book is transparent about the challenges that churches and families face as they desire to be effective in youth ministry. The book is filled with the honest stories of different kinds of youth ministries representing the breadth of Christianity in the United States. I heartily endorse Contemplative Youth Ministry as a rich encounter with the souls of youth and adults whose lives have been transformed by our very present God.” - Bill Kees, director of youth ministries, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) “Mark Yaconelli not only reminds us of some of the long-forgotten pathways of faith, he shares with us how it actually looks when men and women who love God practice it with young people. I especially appreciate Mark’s optimism in his perspective of today’s kids, for his insights are grounded in God’s view of them.” - Chap Clark, Ph.D., associate professor of youth, family, and culture, Fuller Theological Seminary “Mark Yaconelli was experimenting with contemplative youth ministry practices before contemplative youth ministry practices became cool. This book has about it the unique air of authenticity. He shares with us in these pages his own journey as a youth worker who actually believes that God’s still small voice speaks louder than the roaring windstorm of our busy youth ministry calendars. It’s a book about creating for our students places of silence and opening up spaces for God to speak.” - Duffy Robbins, professor of youth ministry, Eastern University; author of Enjoy the Silence and This Way to Youth Ministry “Mark Yaconelli has emerged as one of youth ministry’s most provocative ‘voices in the wilderness,’ calling us back to our theological taproots: The contemplative practices that bind our lives to the life of Christ. If Mark’s research has taught us anything, it’s that these practices do not cause youth ministry to take fl ight into a spiritual never-never land; rather they anchor young people—and their churches—in the fertile soil of Christian tradition, in the nitty-gritty of daily life, and in the explosive transformation that awaits us when we wait upon God.” - Kenda Creasy Dean, parent, pastor, and professor of youth, Princeton Theological Seminary; author of Practicing Passion: Youth and the Quest for a Passionate Church

"Lewis presents an intimate view of his centering prayer journey. He helps us discover the contemplative life and who we are in the deepest sense, made in God's image." - Fr. Carl Arico, founding member of Contemplative Outreach Ltd., and author of A Taste of Silence "This work offers a friendly and accessible approach to centering prayer that will be of great benefit to those new to the practice. Rich has a lovely way of inviting the reader in through honest reflections on his own experience, both struggles and graces. These stories offer comfort and gentle encouragement on the way." - Christine Valters Paintner, author of The Soul of a Pilgrim "Rich Lewis's writing is unique in its simplicity and lack of pretense. And he is nothing if not honest, especially regarding his passion for centering prayer. In this book you will find down-to-earth spiritual practice that echoes throughout Rich's life as a husband, dad, and financial consultant. Highly recommended!" - Amos Smith, author of Be Still and Listen

The Youth Ministry and Spirituality Project was formed in 1997 to participate in the renewal of youth ministry in the Christian church. Its mission is to foster Christian communities that are attentive to God’s presence, discerning of the Spirit and who accompany young people into the way of Jesus. Our mission is founded on the biblical vision of the human person who is created in the image and likeness of God and whose deepest longing is for communion with God and others in love. In response to Christ’s invitation to abide in him (John 15:4), we believe that the central purpose of youth ministry is to open the minds and hearts of young persons to an intimate relationship with God in Christ through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. We seek to fulfill our mission through retreats, workshops, training events, written materials, and relationships that promote a contemplative approach to youth discipleship. The contemplative approach to youth ministry is based on a Christian community’s commitment to cultivate attentiveness to God’s Presence in the lives of young people and is supported in the following seven ways: SABBATH, PRAYER, COVENANT COMMUNITY, ACCOMPANIMENT, DISCERNMENT, HOSPITALITY, AUTHENTIC ACTION.

It's been said that Centering Prayer is like two friends sitting together in silence, just being in each other's presence—completely natural and comfortable. Yet, Centering Prayer is sometimes viewed as too mysterious, too escapist, too hard. At first, it even appeared that way to the author, but events in his life and his further studies about prayer changed his views. Through Muyskens' insightful guidance, you'll explore a method of prayer that goes deeper than verbal conversations with God. This book teaches: silent communion with God a method of being open to the gift of God's presence a way of receiving a deep ad intimate relationship with God Each day's reading has a focal scripture verse and the author's reflection, ending with simple suggestions for contemplative prayer. You'll begin with as few as 5 minutes of Centering Prayer. By following the guidance in this book for 40 days, you will be led to a closer relationship with God. As you progress through the daily scripture and meditative readings in Forty Days to a Closer Walk with God, you'll find greater understanding and fresh awareness of Jesus' promise, "I am with you always."
