As explained by author David Divot, your mind is cluttered with excuses for your poor play: lack of lessons, bad courses, old clubs, new clubs and on and on. Quitting "cold turkey" does not work because, subconsciously, you want to believe this nonsense. But with Divot's ten-year course of treatment, you eventually admit that there is no excuse for your game. Explore techniques to control your anger and depression. Then ponder why you would put that monumental achievement at risk by trying to golf. Discover that having confidence in your game is the surest way to shatter your confidence. Consider why golf magazines constantly offer new tips for curing the same problems that were supposedly cured by the tips offered in previous issues. Find out how to heighten your disappointment by pretending you have some control over where your ball will go. You may not cure your golf affliction with The Fundamentals of Quitting Golf, but at least you'll have a good laugh trying.

The Kingdom Of Golf In America written by Richard J. Moss and has been published by U of Nebraska Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-01 with Sports & Recreation categories.

For golf’s true enthusiasts, the game is far more—and far more complex—than a simple hobby, commodity, or slice of the sports industry. It is a physical and mental place to be, a community. It has a history, a hierarchy, laws, a language, and a literature. And in Richard J. Moss, it has a chronicler. From its beginnings in the northeastern United States in the 1880s, golf has seen its popularity, and its fortunes, wax and wane, affected by politics and economics, reflecting tensions between aristocratic and democratic impulses. The Kingdom of Golf in America traces these ups and downs, ins and outs, in the growth of golf as a community. Moss describes the development of the private club and public course and the impact of wealth and the consumer culture on those who play golf and those who watch. He shows that factors like race, gender, technology, suburbanization, and the transformation of the South that shaped the nation also shaped golf. The result is a unique, and uniquely entertaining, work of cultural history that shows us golf as a community whose story resonates far beyond the confines of the course. Terroir Of Golf written by Taba Dale and has been published by Ryan Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-01 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In 2016, I had my heart set on playing golf at two places in particular-Shiskine (Isle of Arran) and Machrie. Bounding around both of these golfing gems and many places in between, I discovered parallels between creating a unique wine (one which we savor when we drink), and that of a unique golf experience that we drink in while playing a course. As with a fine wine, it is equally intoxicating when a superb golf course delivers a powerful connection with nature. And so, while meandering around the dunes of The Machrie, all the elements coalesced for me into a single phrase: Terroir of Golf. I borrowed from the world of wine; terroir (French from the word terre, or "land") refers to the specific environment where a particular wine is produced. The concept of terroir, as it relates to a crop of grapes, starts with the physical habitat-the soil, climate and the topography. This epiphany occurred to me while on Islay, much better known for whisky than it is for golf, thus I'm loosely borrowing from the world of whisky-making too. I rather doubt that even the most sophisticated distilleries would use the word terroir to describe how they craft whisky (or whiskey in Ireland). Perhaps there is a Scottish word for the importance of the ground and the grain that goes into the making of uisge beatha (or uisce in Irish Gaelic) which translates into "water of life". It was the Irish monks of the early Middle Ages who used the Latin translation of aqua vitae to describe distilled alcohol. But that discussion requires a red, white or brown liquid, poured into a lovely crystal glass, with or without a stem, to be properly and luxuriously explored at great length. Taba Dale
