Hyperkinetic movement disorders comprise a range of diseases characterized by unwanted and uncontrollable, or poorly controllable, involuntary movements. The phenomenology of these disorders is quite variable encompassing chorea, tremor, dystonia, myoclonus, tics, other dyskinesias, jerks and shakes. Discerning the underlying condition can be very difficult given the range and variability of symptoms. But recognizing the phenomenology and understanding the pathophysiology are essential to ensure appropriate treatment. Hyperkinetic Movement Disorders provides a clinical pathway for effective diagnosis and management of these disorders. The stellar international cast of authors distils the evidence so you can apply it into your practice. The judicious use of diagnostic criteria algorithms rating scales management guidelines Provides a robust framework for clear patient management. Throughout the text, QR codes* provide smartphone access to case-study videos of hyperkinetic symptoms. Purchase includes an enhanced Wiley Desktop Edition.* This is an interactive digital version featuring: all text and images in fully searchable form integrated videos of presentations View a sample video: www.wiley.com/go/albanese highlighting and note taking facilities book marking linking to additional references Hyperkinetic Movement Disorders provides you with the essential visual and practical tools you need to effectively diagnose and treat your patients. *Full instructions for using QR codes and for downloading your digital Wiley DeskTop Edition are inside the book.

Psychotic Disorders: Comprehensive Conceptualization and Treatments emphasizes a dimensional approach to psychosis--one of the most fascinating manifestations of altered brain behavior--that cuts across a broad array of psychiatric diagnoses from schizophrenia to affective psychosis and organic disorders like epilepsy and dementias. Written by an international roster of over seventy leading experts in the field, this volume comprehensively reviews, critiques, and integrates available knowledge on the etiology, mechanisms, and treatments of psychotic disorders, and outlines ways forward in both research and clinical practice towards more objective, mechanistically-based definitions of psychotic disorders. Chapters address topics such as psychosis phenomenology, biomarkers and treatments, the overlaps and interfaces between psychiatric disorders within the psychosis dimension, and novel disease definitions. Furthermore, the volume incorporates findings on potential mechanisms, bridges between various system levels (i.e., genetic, epigenetic, molecular and cellular, brain circuit and function, psychological, social, environmental and cultural) and their interactions, as well as the potential role in causation and/or mediation in psychotic disorders. Finally, the volume outlines a broad array of treatment approaches, from the readily available (e.g., psychopharmacology, various modalities of psychotherapy) to the experimental (e.g., cognitive interventions, neuromodulation). With a concluding section of forward perspectives conjecturing future directions and related challenges, this book aspires to stimulate new knowledge, generate novel frameworks, and carry new directions forward on psychotic disorders.

Descriptive Psychopathology written by Michael Alan Taylor and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-11-13 with Medical categories.

In order to accurately describe and diagnose psychiatric illness, practitioners require in-depth knowledge of the signs and symptoms of behavioral disorders. Descriptive Psychopathology provides a broad review of the psychopathology of psychiatric illness, beyond the limitations of the DSM and ICD criteria. Beginning with a discussion of the background to psychiatric classification, the authors explore the problems and limitations of current diagnostic systems. The following chapters then present the principles of psychiatric examination and diagnosis, described with accompanying patient vignettes and summary tables, and related to different diagnostic concerns. A thought-provoking conclusion proposes a restructuring of psychiatric classification based on the psychopathology literature and its validating data. Written for psychiatry and neurology residents, as well as clinical psychologists, it is invaluable to anyone who accepts the responsibility for the care of patients with behavioral syndromes.

Neuropsychiatric disorders have a huge impact on individuals, families and societies. However, the neuropathology underlying cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric disorders remains unclear. Resting-state functional connectivity provides a powerful way to investigate functional alterations underlying cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric disorders. Traditional FC analysis measures the correlations of signals with an assumption that functional connectivity remains constant during the observation period. In recent years, several studies have demonstrated the feasibility of dynamic methods in characterization of functional brain changes, such as dynamic functional connectivity investigated by a sliding window method. However, selection of window size, window stepsize and window type are open areas of research and an important parameter to capture the resting-state FC dynamics.
