Wait! Before you fly into that building... What is truth? Is it knowable? Can we be absolutely certain about anything? A momentous work of philosophy doesn't have to be massive and unreadable. No example of philosophy that you'll encounter will deal with Certainty and Truth more concisely and compellingly than this book, yet it does so while maintaining an engaging style that keeps the cerebral content very readable and accessible. Like previous philosophies that address Certainty and Truth, the work HAD to address the issue of God, yet unlike it's predecessors, manages to do so without any hidden assumptions. As a result, it holds confirmations of orthodox Christianity that are unprecedented. The book adopts a partially autobiographical style as it details how the hyper-rational author went from the purest form of agnosticism to fundamentalist Christianity over a span of years. Within are essays that address common misconceptions that skeptics and Christians share. There is also a miraculous quality to the account that speaks to the heart. The fact that the author is a recent stroke victim, cognitively impaired and partially paralyzed, makes it apparent that he cannot take credit for any cleverness reflected in this book. There are things on a par with Einstein's "On The Photoelectric Effect" or "On Brownian Motion" Since the author admits to having the barest of math abilities, it's fortunate that the issues in this work do not require the same mathematical rigor to express as Einstein's remarkable understandings. Nevertheless, the assertion of novelty and momentousness for this work is appropriate. There are unusual and intellectually satisfying answers to questions that people have grappled with for centuries. Questions like: What is the nature of reality and to what extent is anything knowable? Where did I come from and what's to become of me? What is the name of God and is there a "chosen" people? Can Jesus be the Son of God and also God Himself? How can the torments of Hell come from a "loving" God? Book sale proceeds go to AsiaHarvest.org.

Statistics are alarming. Eighty-eight percent of the U.S. population does not believe in a moral absolute. Postmodernism has undermined the concept of absolute truth in the past generation, leaving even Christians groping for meaning and certainty in their lives. This book exposes the irrationalities of atheistic positions, showing that God is real and truth is absolute, and only trust in him can provide certainty that life has meaning and fulfillment. An excellent book to give to a seeker friend.

In Search Of A Better World written by Karl Popper and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Philosophy categories.

'I want to begin by declaring that I regard scientific knowledge as the most important kind of knowledge we have', writes Sir Karl Popper in the opening essay of this book, which collects his meditations on the real improvements science has wrought in society, in politics and in the arts in the course of the twentieth century. His subjects range from the beginnings of scientific speculation in classical Greece to the destructive effects of twentieth century totalitarianism, from major figures of the Enlightenment such as Kant and Voltaire to the role of science and self-criticism in the arts. The essays offer striking new insights into the mind of one of the greatest twentieth century philosophers.

Finding And Confirming Truth written by John S. Pletz and has been published by University Press of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-05-10 with Philosophy categories.

Is truth a word we use only to affirm a statement, or is it also something more? In Finding and Confirming Truth, John S. Pletz explains that truth is more than mere affirmation. It also is the conclusion reached when we have effectively confirmed that an assertion accurately depicts the facts that it describes. Following a delineation of the major types of inferences used in confirming the truth of statements and the justifications for each of them, Pletz discusses the process used in identifying and verifying factual truth. That process includes the critical step of assessing the degree of certainty we have in a confirmed assertion, which the author contends must be ascertained before we should conclude that any statement is true. Finally, Pletz employs this confirmation framework and process in seeking the truth of the concept of truth itself.

Certainty written by Paul F. Kisak and has been published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-01 with categories.

Certainty is perfect knowledge that has total security from error, or the mental state of being without doubt. Objectively defined, certainty is total continuity and validity of all foundational inquiry, to the highest degree of precision. Something is certain only if no skepticism can occur. Philosophy (at least, historical Cartesian philosophy) seeks this state. It is widely held that certainty about the real world is a failed historical enterprise (that is, beyond deductive truths, tautology, etc.). This is in large part due to the power of David Hume's problem of induction. Physicist Carlo Rovelli adds that certainty, in real life, is useless or often damaging (the idea is that "total security from error" is impossible in practice, and a complete "lack of doubt" is undesirable). This book discusses the issues that surround claims of certainty and the illusion of absolute truth and perfection.

The Quest For Absolute Certainty written by L. P. Jacks and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-30 with categories.

What is absolute certainty? Where is it to be found? Does it exist? Is there any belief of mankind which can be claimed as absolutely certain? It is difficult to define an absolute in any kind. One can only say that the absolute is that which wants [needs] nothing to make it complete. The absolute does not even want a philosopher to tell the world what the absolute is. So long as it wants a philosopher to expound it, to that extent it is not complete, and is therefore not the absolute.Spinoza saw this, and made it the corner-stone of his thought. He saw that Perfection must be capable of telling its own story. It cannot at one and the same time be perfect and yet in need of a human spokesman to explain it. A dumb absolute which needs you to give it a tongue, an unintelligible absolute which needs you to make it rational, a dead absolute which needs you to make it live and interesting, would be no absolute at all. So Spinoza begins his great treatise with admirable humility by defining God as the being who defines himself; who, just because he is all-perfect, needs no explainer, being fully competent to explain himself. God asks for no champions; wants no apologist; seeks for no witnesses. If he did, he would not be God. But Spinoza went too far.
