Cervical Cancer: Contemporary Management is indeed a state-of-the-art textbook on cervix cancer. The contents are organized into 8 sections and 33 chapters with the latter consistently and sequentially structured with an initial outline, introduction, descriptive but focused narrative complemented by quality figures, diagrams, tables and photographs and supported by contemporary references affording ease of access to appropriate resource information. This may be the only book of its kind comprehensively addressing all aspects of cervical cancer beginning with screening, diagnosis and management of pre-invasive disease which includes screening in low resource countries, recent advances in screening technology, HPV carcinogenesis, molecular markers and of course primary prevention with HPV vaccination. Staging protocols, imaging techniques and sentinel node evaluation have been discussed in detail. Surgical management of cervical cancer is complete in all respects. All surgical techniques ranging from radical trachelectomy, radical abdominal hysterectomy, laparoscopic nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy, radical vaginal hysterectomy and the complications of surgery are described in detail. Emphasis in many chapters is on nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy which is known to reduce bladder, rectal and sexual dysfunction postoperatively. Postradiation hysterectomy and pelvic exenterations have been extensively covered. Renowned national and international surgeons have contributed well-written chapters which speak for their experience and expertise. Likewise, the radiation arm of cancer cervix therapy is extensive and ranges from radiation therapy: principles and techniques, chemoradiation, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, management of recurrent disease by both chemotherapy and radiation and interstitial brachytherapy. Image-guided techniques and treatment planning have been described wherever appropriate. This book is valuable and finds itself on the bookshelves of all those who practice gynecologic oncology, postgraduate students and fellows specializing in this field.

A detailed guide to the many factors that need to be considered when planning & managing a screening programme for the early detection of cervical cancer. Noting that screening programmes often fail to have an impact on incidence rates & mortality, the book concentrates on key managerial decisions, such as the definition of target groups & the frequency of screening, that will determine a programme's capacity to detect cervical cancer at an early, curable stage in the population at greatest risk. Advice & recommendations draw upon evidence from several large investigations as well as experiences with different programmes throughout the world. Policies that consume resources without improving results are clearly indicated. The book sets out managerial guidelines for the implementation & evaluation of screening programmes. Concentrating on key managerial decisions, the book covers such questions as when a screening programme can be implemented, which sector of the health service should be used as the organizational base, & who should be responsible for management, surveillance, & evaluation. Other chapters offer advice on the organization of screening programmes in the context of primary health care, & outline programme requirements in terms of information systems.

Uterine cancers are the commonest malignancies of the female genital tract in the developed world, and are increasing in numbers world over because of obesity and other life-style changes. Many of these malignancies are hereditary and thus, a better understanding of the genetic and molecular biology is needed. This would lead to appropriate treatment plan for improving the quality of life and long-term survival. This book addresses, in depth, all aspects of uterine malignancies covering both carcinomas and sarcomas. The book is divided into seven sections; the first two sections deal with epidemiology, molecular aspects, familial cancers and pathology and the later sections focus on diagnosis, imaging techniques and comprehensive management of both early stage and advanced cancers. Surgical techniques, adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy have been covered in detail. Apart from the open surgical methods, role of laparoscopy and emerging role of robotic surgery in the contemporary management of endometrial cancers have been discussed. Written by authors with expertise in the field of gynecologic oncology from premier institutes, this book provides up-to-date information on best practice management of uterine malignancies.

The Cancer Within examines cervical cancer in Romania as a point of entry into an anthropological reflection on contemporary health care. Cervical cancer prevention reveals the inner workings of emerging post-communist medicine, which aligns the state and the market, public and private health care providers, policy makers, and ordinary women. Fashioned by patriarchal relations, lived religion, and the historical trauma of pronatalism, Romanian women’s responses to reproductive medicine and cervical cancer prevention are complicated by neoliberal reforms to medical care. Cervical cancer prevention – and especially the HPV vaccination – provided Romanians a legitimate instance to express their conflicting views of post-communist medicine. What sets Romania apart is that pronatalism, patriarchy, lived religion, medical reforms, and moral contestation of preventive medicine bring into line systemic contingencies that expose the historical, social, and cultural trajectories of cervical cancer.
