This is a history and an expos of the 1986 investigation of the Space Shuttle Challenger accident. Much information that was kept secret has become available to the public since the Presidential Commission wrote its final report. In terms of people and money, it remains the largest investigation in history. Yet in the opinions of the authors, who bring fifty years of investigative and journalistic experience to this effort, there were flaws in the process that should be brought to light. The purpose of this book is to explore what actually happened, how the investigation was done, who contributed to the accident, and how the investigation kept the truth hidden from the world. "Macidull and Blattner have ripped aside the curtain of secrecy surrounding the true story of the Challenger disaster-away from the infamous O-rings-and have gone far in credibly shifting the blame to those in management." Edwin M. Reingold, Aerospace Specialist and Foreign Correspondent for Time Magazine "For anyone interested in the space program, it is a must read." Arthur C. Clark, author of 2001, A Space Odyssey "It seems to be a foregone conclusion now that the crew survived the explosion. And the book (Challenger's Shadow) does a terrific job in explaining in terms that any lay person can understand, why we feel it is so." Joe Ferlo, WCUB AM Radio, Wisconsin USE Authors picture John Macidull investigated military and airliner accidents for the U.S. Navy, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the FAA for over 20 years, during which time he was assigned to the staff of the Challenger Presidential Commission, and was responsible for much of that Presidential Commission's final report. Les Blattner wrotebooks that helped define U.S. commercial aviation of the 1990s, and wrote numerous articles and stories for Time, Life and Fortune magazines concerning the space program. He worked in Washington as a member of President Jimmy Carter's Administration, serving as Director of Policy and Program Development.

Kit was then sent to live with her grandfather, a cold, unfeeling man, and Will thought he would never see her again. Years later, as Kit reaches the age of eighteen, she frees herself from her grandfather’s strict and overbearing household and returns to her hometown to uncover the secrets of her past. What do Tesla, Apple, Warby Parker, and Nike all have in common? They all challenged the conventions of their category and, in true Challenger Brand style, caused the world to navigate by their beliefs, actions, and standards. In this easily accessible series of stories, Illuminate explores what makes these brands tick and how today's modern marketer can benefit from their example. Packed full of insights, case stories, and real-world examples from my thirty-five-plus years on the front line of Challenger marketing, Illuminate is an essential read for anyone involved in the business of building brands. Particularly Challenger Brands. These are the brands who see imperfections as opportunities, who take umbrage at the lowly expectations that abound in so many categories, who challenge the Monsters in our midst. They are the mavericks who hate the status quo, who create new norms, and who force the world to navigate by their vision of the future. And these are the brands you will learn about in this book. Some are new, some are old, but all are Challengers at heart. And they all have fascinating stories to tell. Because why you do business today is, perhaps, even more important that what you do or how you do it. Yet, every day, we see too many firms chasing the competition, believing that price, product features, or passion alone will make them winners. Companies without a clearly articulated purpose. The result? Low returns. Failed or sub-performing companies. Another dream shattered. Another great idea turned to dust. The losers are the employees, management teams, owners, and boards at all these companies. As well as the investors--the VCs, private equity firms, angel funders, and founders, and the world itself. But it doesn't have to be that way. Most companies focus on what they do and sometimes, how they do it and then expect people to buy their product or service. Challengers, however, broadcast why they do what they do and change the world in the process. Challengers create new sets of rules and expect the world to follow their lead. And they do it with passion and focus, not big budgets. It's why they're some of the fastest growing companies on earth. In Illuminate II, you will learn tips and tricks, gain insights and ideas, and be able to put into practice lessons, from some of the world's most interesting Challenger Brands. Some of the stories you will read have historical routes; some are centered on my recent experience; some will hopefully inspire you to think and act different at, or with, your company, or even in your life; some will provide you clear, tangible lessons and exercises to use. And, hopefully, all of them will help you perfect the art and science of Challenger behavior.

The Many Faces Of Strategic Voting written by John H Aldrich and has been published by University of Michigan Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-20 with Political Science categories.

Voters do not always choose their preferred candidate on election day. Often they cast their ballots to prevent a particular outcome, as when their own preferred candidate has no hope of winning and they want to prevent another, undesirable candidate’s victory; or, they vote to promote a single-party majority in parliamentary systems, when their own candidate is from a party that has no hope of winning. In their thought-provoking book The Many Faces of Strategic Voting, Laura B. Stephenson, John H. Aldrich, and André Blais first provide a conceptual framework for understanding why people vote strategically, and what the differences are between sincere and strategic voting behaviors. Expert contributors then explore the many facets of strategic voting through case studies in Great Britain, Spain, Canada, Japan, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and the European Union.
