The volume brings together forty years of agenda-setting scholarship in Israelite and Judean history. The historical essays gathered here were among the first to raise serious questions about the "patriarchal age", the exodus from Egypt and the conquest of Canaan, and the temple of Solomon. The literary essays on the Pentateuch challenged both the classical Documentary Hypothesis and the more recent modifications that support the notion of an extensive Deuteronomistic redaction of the Pentateuch. The final set of essays examines biblical notions of patriarchal religion, myths of human origin, and the legendary origins of Passover within a broad comparative context.

Changing Perspectives is a collection of thoughts and tools to help individuals on a journey of self-discovery to help them take a look at their lives and determine what is working and what isn't. We go through life filtering all experiences as if everyone thinks as we do. But, everyone is different and often our interactions require a shift in perspective in order to resolve conflict and improve areas of our lives that are not as healthy as they could be. This book is intended to be used as reference to guide individuals on their journey through life in the hopes that through healing and seeing things differently, they might find the world to be a kinder and gentler place to exist within.

Animals And Human Society written by Aubrey Manning and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-11-01 with Social Science categories.

Modern society is beginning to re-examine its whole relationship with animals and the natural world. Until recently issues such as animal welfare and environmental protection were considered the domain of small, idealistic minorities. Now, these issues attract vast numbers of articulate supporters who collectively exercise considerable political muscle. Animals, both wild and domestic, form the primary focus of concern in this often acrimonious debate. Yet why do animals evoke such strong and contradictory emotions in people - and do our western attitudes have anything in common with those of other societies and cultures? Bringing together a range of contributions from distinguished experts in the field, Animals and Society explores the importance of animals in society from social, historical and cross-cultural perspectives.

Perspective Shift Therapy written by Robert Anthony and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-20 with Self-Help categories.

I developed Perspective Shift Therapy because there are times when our perspective of life changes. As a direct result, we change. These changes in our perspective are brought on by circumstances, other people or we come to new perceptions on our own. We can choose to change our perspective at any time and benefit from the changes! Perspective can not only be the way we see life, but it can also be the way we choose to see life! Changing perspectives is a necessary part of growing up, and changing roles in life. I address the following: 1. What makes up our perspective in the first place? 2. How did it get to be what it is? 3. When do we need to change our perspective? 4. How do we change it to be what we want it to be or what it needs to be to adapt to life? 5. Why do we need to change our perspective at will? I wrote this book to explain Perspective Shift Therapy in ways that will help you decide which perspective you wish to have, and then enable you to know how to change it to be what you wish.

Changing Perspectives charts the pivotal period in Houston’s history when Jewish and Black leadership eventually came together to work for positive change. This is a story of two communities, both of which struggled to claim the rights and privileges they desired. Previous scholars of Southern Jewish history have argued that Black-Jewish relations did not exist in the South. However, during the 1930s to the 1980s, Jews and Blacks in Houston interacted in diverse and oftentimes surprising ways. For example, Houston’s Jewish leaders and eventually Black political leaders forged a connection that blossomed into the creation of the Mickey Leland Kibbutzim Internship in Israel for disadvantaged Black youth. Initially Houston Jewish leadership battled with their devotion to liberalism and sympathy with oppressed Blacks and their desire to acculturate. The distance between Houston’s Jews and Blacks diminished after changing demographics, the end of segregation, city redistricting, and the emergence of Black political power. Simultaneously, Israel’s victory during the Six-Day War caused the city’s Jews to embrace their Jewish identity and form an unexpected bond with Black political leaders over the cause of Zionism. Allison Schottenstein shows that Black-Jewish relations did exist during the Long Civil Rights Movement in Houston. Indeed, Houston played a significant role in the scope of Southern Jewish history and in expanding our understanding of Black-Jewish relations in the United States.

The idea of the Old Testament as a source of historical information was replaced by an understanding of the texts as a means for early Jewish society to interpret its past. 'Biblical Studies and the Failure of History' brings together key essays which reflect the trajectory of this scholarly shift.
