Our Watch partnered with Australia's National Research Organisation for Women's Safety (ANROWS) and the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) to create Change the story: A shared framework for the primary prevention of violence against women and their children in Australia. The framework draws upon the latest international evidence and consultations with over 400 stakeholders across Australia to explore what drives violence against women and what works to prevent it. It demonstrates that, while violence against women has no single cause, it is strongly associated with particular dimensions of gender inequality, in both public life and personal relationships. It asserts that an Australia where women and their children live free from violence is an achievable long-term goal, but one that can only be realised by addressing the drivers of this violence, which are deeply entrenched in our social and cultural norms structures and practices, across our communities and in our daily lives.Change the story details the key elements required to create a strategic, collaborative and consistent national approach to preventing violence against women. The framework:* outlines 10 essential and supporting actions to prevent violence against women by addressing its gendered drivers and reinforcing factors* provides evidence-based guidance to government, the private sector, civil society and communities on how to lead, coordinate, resource and support effective prevention effort across Australia* aims to inform and support the development of policy and legislation, prevention programs, strategies and initiatives of all kinds, and advocacy. The framework demonstrates how, by working together, governments, organisations, communities and individuals can create a safer Australia built upon respect and equality. It offers a path towards this ultimate goal of social transformation, providing the necessary evidence, rationale and guidance to drive and support a significant and sustained nation-wide effort to prevent violence against women and their children.

Changing The Story written by Gayle Greene and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Literary Criticism categories.

The feminist fiction movement of the 1960s-1980s was and is as significant a movement as Modernism, Greene argues here. Focusing on the metafiction of Doris Lessing, Margaret Drabble, Margaret Atwood, and Margaret Laurence, she traces the roots of this feminist literary explosion to the second women's movement and places these writers within a sociohistorical matrix, and at the same time creates a new literary canon. Greene also speculates on the future of feminist fiction in the current regressive period of edition (unseen), $17.50. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Narrative Change written by Hans Hansen and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-28 with Business & Economics categories.

Texas prosecutors are powerful: in cases where they seek capital punishment, the defendant is sentenced to death over ninety percent of the time. When management professor Hans Hansen joined Texas’s newly formed death penalty defense team to rethink their approach, they faced almost insurmountable odds. Yet while Hansen was working with the office, they won seventy of seventy-one cases by changing the narrative for death penalty defense. To date, they have succeeded in preventing well over one hundred executions—demonstrating the importance of changing the narrative to change our world. In this book, Hansen offers readers a powerful model for creating significant organizational, social, and institutional change. He unpacks the lessons of the fight to change capital punishment in Texas—juxtaposing life-and-death decisions with the efforts to achieve a cultural shift at Uber. Hansen reveals how narratives shape our everyday lives and how we can construct new narratives to enact positive change. This narrative change model can be used to transform corporate cultures, improve public services, encourage innovation, craft a brand, or even develop your own leadership. Narrative Change provides an unparalleled window into an innovative model of change while telling powerful stories of a fight against injustice. It reminds us that what matters most for any organization, community, or person is the story we tell about ourselves—and the most effective way to shake things up is by changing the story.

Our world is facing an enormous and unprecedented challenge. The migration crisis affects nearly eighty million people and represents a humanitarian catastrophe. How can we ignore the suffering of men, women, and children who are forcibly displaced worldwide? The book, Changing Stories, helps the reader to reflect on the migration crisis from a biblical perspective. It evaluates refugee ministry ongoing initiatives among the world's most vulnerable people. Additionally, it analyzes the refugee ministry that the Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church is developing with refugees from Syria, Iraq, the Congo, and Vietnam. The analysis uses as a framework the Best Practices for Christian Ministry among Forcibly Displaced People document proposed by the Refugee Highway Partnership (RHP). Throughout the book, the author answers the following questions: -How complex is the current migration crisis? -What does the Scripture say about displaced people? -What are some of the available tools for a refugee ministry? -How does a refugee ministry look in a local church? -What are some of the best practices for a refugee ministry? The book tells many stories of refugees from different backgrounds, which will help you hear voices representing hundreds of thousands of refugees who go unheard.

Monoculture written by F. S. Michaels and has been published by Red Clover Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-25 with History categories.

Winner of the George Orwell Award. One of The Atlantic's best books of the year. As human beings, we've always told stories: stories about who we are, where we come from, and where we're going. Now imagine that one of those stories is taking over the others, narrowing our diversity and creating a monoculture. Because of the rise of the economic story, six areas of your world - your work, your relationships with others and the environment, your community, your physical and spiritual health, your education, and your creativity - are changing, or have already changed, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. And because how you think shapes how you act, the monoculture isn't just changing your mind - it's changing your life. In Monoculture, F.S. Michaels draws on extensive research and makes surprising connections among disciplines to take a big-picture look at how one story is changing everything. Her research and writing have been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Killam Trusts, and regional and municipal arts councils. Michaels has an MBA, and completed five years of PhD studies in Organizational Analysis. She lives in British Columbia, Canada. "A single lucid narrative that's bound to first make you somewhat uncomfortable and insecure, then give you the kind of pause from which you can step back and move forward with more autonomy, authenticity and mindfulness than ever." - The Atlantic "A thin, enrapturing gem. It's accessible, sensible--exactly the sort of book that should have (and still could + should!) take off and create a tiny little dent in books." - Kenyon Review "A smart and realistic guide to first recognizing the monoculture and the challenges of transcending its limitations." - Maria Popova, BrainPickings.org "I found myself reading non-stop, underlining like crazy...an astute explanation about what I've been feeling recently, something I couldn't put my finger on...[Michaels] writes in clear, energetic prose that's thoughtful, engaging and unforced. She defines and analyzes without judgment or insistence...a breath of fresh air." - NPR "...a singularly brilliant and accessible analysis of some of the fundamental assumptions and driving principles of our time." - Comment Magazine "5 stars: The cause and effect of our world is more surprising than you'd think. With intriguing notions about the driving ideas of stories in every shape of our life, "Monoculture" is an incredibly fascinating way about how the mind works and today's consumer culture." - Midwest Book Review "If you just read one book this year, read this one." - BuriedInPrint.com

'A fantastic book.' WIRED 'Witty and instructive.' WALL STREET JOURNAL 'Invaluable for anyone wanting to make long-lasting change a reality.' BBC FOCUS 'A must-read.' FORBES ______________________________________________ We all know that change is hard. It's unsettling, it's time-consuming, and all too often we give up at the first sign of a setback. But why do we insist on seeing the obstacles rather than the goal? This is the question that bestselling authors Chip and Dan Heath tackle in their compelling and insightful book. They argue that we need to understand how our minds function in order to unlock shortcuts to switch up our behaviours. Illustrating their ideas with scientific studies and remarkable real-life turnarounds - from the secrets of successful marriage counselling to the pile of gloves that transformed one company's finances - the brothers Heath prove that deceptively simple methods can yield truly extraordinary results. In a compelling, story-driven narrative, the Heaths bring together decades of counterintuitive research in psychology, sociology, and other fields to shed new light on how we can effect transformative change.

Building A Moral Economy written by Cynthia D. Moe-Lobeda and has been published by Fortress Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-11-12 with Religion categories.

This introductory volume in the Building a Moral Economy series invites readers into a new vision for the future of economic life together. Ethicist Cynthia Moe-Lobeda crafts a compelling case for a new moral economy: its vital importance, the pivotal role religious networks can play, and the varied forms of action needed. Building a Moral Economy: Pathways for People of Courage is grounded in the stories of real people, with real struggles, triumphs, and creative energy. Moe-Lobeda invites readers to imagine an equitable, ecological, and democratic economy for themselves and their descendants and provides wise guidance for living into that vision. Readers will re-see economies as webs of relationship and will root economic life in the great love story--the story of God's astounding love for all creation, and God's call to align our lives with that love. Readers will encounter the work of economic transformation as a sacred journey--a journey of healing diseased relationships with Earth, with self, with neighbors far and near, and with the Sacred Source whom many call God. Moe-Lobeda conveys this as a journey of freedom to live as beings in community--human community, planetary community, and community with God. Moe-Lobeda's accessible prose explicitly faces the paradox of enormous moral challenges such as climate change held together with infinite hope. Welcoming readers into the vibrant global movement to build life-giving forms of economic life, she seeks to develop a sense of empowered agency. Are we the disinterested individuals motivated by material self-interest that neoclassical economics declared us to be, or are humans called to "think with" others, past, present, and future, seeking communion with all creation? Moe-Lobeda argues that our lives and Earth's well-being depend on choosing the latter path. The work is urgent; the time to embark on these pathways of restorative justice is now.
