Attitude dynamics is the theoretical basis of attitude control of spacecrafts in aerospace engineering. With the development of nonlinear dynamics, chaos in spacecraft attitude dynamics has drawn great attention since the 1990's. The problem of the predictability and controllability of the chaotic attitude motion of a spacecraft has a practical significance in astronautic science. This book aims to summarize basic concepts, main approaches, and recent progress in this area. It focuses on the research work of the author and other Chinese scientists in this field, providing new methods and viewpoints in the investigation of spacecraft attitude motion, as well as new mathematical models, with definite engineering backgrounds, for further analysis. Professor Yanzhu Liu was the Director of the Institute of Engineering Mechanics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. Dr. Liqun Chen is a Professor at the Department of Mechanics, Shanghai University, China.

Attitude Dynamics and Control of Space Debris During Ion Beam Transportation provides an overview of the cutting-edge research around the topic of contactless ion beam transportation for the removal of space debris. This practical guide covers topics such as space debris attitude motion, the motion of rigid materials in an inhomogeneous high-speed rarefied medium, gravity gradient torque, and more. The book examines and compares the various ways to control the spatial motion of space debris, such as engine thrust or altering the direction of the ion beam axis, and offers simple mathematical models for analyzing system behaviors. Provides insight on the features, advantages, and disadvantages of contactless ion beam transportation of space debris Demonstrates how classical mechanics, nonlinear and chaotic dynamics, and methods of stability theory are applied during the ion beam method Includes simple mathematical models describing the behavior of the considered mechanical system, allowing the reader to understand the nature of the studied phenomenon

This book explores topics that are central to the field of spacecraft attitude determination and control. The authors provide rigorous theoretical derivations of significant algorithms accompanied by a generous amount of qualitative discussions of the subject matter. The book documents the development of the important concepts and methods in a manner accessible to practicing engineers, graduate-level engineering students and applied mathematicians. It includes detailed examples from actual mission designs to help ease the transition from theory to practice and also provides prototype algorithms that are readily available on the author’s website. Subject matter includes both theoretical derivations and practical implementation of spacecraft attitude determination and control systems. It provides detailed derivations for attitude kinematics and dynamics and provides detailed description of the most widely used attitude parameterization, the quaternion. This title also provides a thorough treatise of attitude dynamics including Jacobian elliptical functions. It is the first known book to provide detailed derivations and explanations of state attitude determination and gives readers real-world examples from actual working spacecraft missions. The subject matter is chosen to fill the void of existing textbooks and treatises, especially in state and dynamics attitude determination. MATLAB code of all examples will be provided through an external website.

Design And Global Analysis Of Spacecraft Attitude Control Systems written by George Meyer and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971 with Space vehicles categories.

A general procedure for the design and analysis of three-axis, large-angle attitude control systems has been developed. Properties of three-dimensional rotations are used to formulate a model of such systems. The model is general in that it is based on those properties which are common to all attitude control systems, rather than on special properties of particular components. Numerical values are assigned to attitude error by means of error functions. These functions are used to construct asymptotically stable control laws. The overall (global) behavior of the system is characterized by the envelope of all time histories of attitude error generated by every possible combination of initial condition, target attitude motion, and disturbance. A method for computing upper bounds on the response envelope is presented. Applications of this method indicate that it provides a useful alternative to Liapunov analysis for the determination of system stability, responsiveness, and sensitivity to disturbances, parameter variations, and target attitude motion.

Attitude Control Of A Spacecraft With A Strapdown Inertial Reference System And Onboard Computer written by John Hrastar and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1970 with Algorithms categories.

A strapdown inertial reference system and an onboard digital computer can be used to change the attitude of a spacecraft over large angles in an arbitrary direction. A study was conducted with an advanced Orbiting Astronomical Observatory (OAO) using a three-axis control law previously proven globally stable. The control system can reorient the spacecraft to an arbitrary inertial attitude with a single command by operating the three momentum wheels simultaneously. Reorientation, therefore, becomes a simple extension of a hold or pointing mode. The time required for reorientation with this system is considerably shorter than the time required for a series of single-axis slews. The spacecraft attitude and control law are continuously updated by the onboard computer's using information provided by the strapdown inertial reference system. The use of a computer and inertial reference system with characteristics of systems presently under development demonstrates the feasibility of orientation with such a reference system. The basic system is not limited to the OAO but may be adapted for other three-axis-stabilized spacecraft.

Rigid Body Dynamics For Space Applications written by Vladimir S Aslanov and has been published by Butterworth-Heinemann this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-22 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Rigid Body Dynamics for Space Applications explores the modern problems of spaceflight mechanics, such as attitude dynamics of re-entry and space debris in Earth's atmosphere; dynamics and control of coaxial satellite gyrostats; deployment, dynamics, and control of a tether-assisted return mission of a re-entry capsule; and removal of large space debris by a tether tow. Most space systems can be considered as a system of rigid bodies, with additional elastic and viscoelastic elements and fuel residuals in some cases. This guide shows the nature of the phenomena and explains the behavior of space objects. Researchers working on spacecraft attitude dynamics or space debris removal as well as those in the fields of mechanics, aerospace engineering, and aerospace science will benefit from this book. Provides a complete treatise of modeling attitude for a range of novel and modern attitude control problems of spaceflight mechanics Features chapters on the application of rigid body dynamics to atmospheric re-entries, tethered assisted re-entry, and tethered space debris removal Shows relatively simple ways of constructing mathematical models and analytical solutions describing the behavior of very complex material systems Uses modern methods of regular and chaotic dynamics to obtain results
