This story is dedicated to all of the "battered wives" throughout the world. I would like to plead with them to seek help and assistance. This is the story of my life, spent with an American soldier before and after the war in Vietnam. Though the events took place many years ago, I feel that this story should be shared with today's families and soldiers, so that they might not make the same mistakes our family made. There is a wall in Washington, DC inscribed with the names of soldiers who lost their lives in the war. This country also recognizes the POWs, MIAs those wounded in action. However, no one seems to recognize, or mention, those damaged mentally and emotionally by the war. For many of these soldiers, the conflict is still raging - in their minds, in their homes and in their relationship with loved ones. America is once again at war, and many soldiers -- men and women -- are coming home severely disturbed, mentally and emotionally, and are not getting the help they need. My family still feels the pain -- decades later -- caused when my husband, and the father of my children, returned home physically, but not mentally or emotionally. The battery and assault I suffered as a result should have been addressed, and could have been prevented, by the army. Instead, my pleas were overlooked. Mine was not the only family affected -- I witnessed many more families broken up as a result of the effects of the war on our soldiers. I feel that we, as Americans, need to put more of an emphasis on the welfare of our soldiers and their families -- those who served in past wars, soldiers presently serving and participants in future conflicts. To this day, I am overwhelmed with sadness and sympathy for the families of those Vietnam vets who returned emotionally broken and mentally injured. I walked away to save my life and the lives of my children after 10 years of abuse, giving up all of the years I spent with my soldier. My husband and my family did not deserve this outcome. Please -- make sure you support your soldier! Make sure he or she gets the help and support they deserve when they return home from the war.

Paradise Lost And The Cosmological Revolution written by Dennis Danielson and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-06 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This volume brings John Milton's Paradise Lost into dialogue with the challenges of cosmology and the world of Galileo, whom Milton met and admired: a universe encompassing space travel, an earth that participates vibrantly in the cosmic dance, and stars that are "world[s] / Of destined habitation." Milton's bold depiction of our universe as merely a small part of a larger multiverse allows the removal of hell from the center of the earth to a location in the primordial abyss. In this wide-ranging work, Dennis Danielson lucidly unfolds early modern cosmological debates, engaging not only Galileo but also Copernicus, Tycho, Kepler, and the English Copernicans, thus placing Milton at a rich crossroads of epic poetry and the history of science.

The One And The Many written by R. J. Rushdoony and has been published by Chalcedon Foundation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-06-17 with Religion categories.

The question of where ultimacy lies should be central to the Christian. It is easy to see the social implications of allowing priority to fall to either the one or the many. This volume examines in-depth the Christian solution to the problem of the one and the many - the Trinitarian God. Only in the godhead is this dilemma resolved. Only in the Trinity does there reside an equal ultimacy of unity and plurality. Rushdoony examines the history of Western thought from the standpoint of the one and the many and demonstrates clearly that the most astute thinkers were unable to resolve this philosophical conflict. What is needed now is a complete return to the Trinitarian view of God and its implications for a Christian social order.

Winner of the Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Winner of the American Book Award, Before Columbus Foundation Winner of the PEN Oakland–Josephine Miles Award Winner of the MAAH Stone Book Award A Pitchfork Best Music Book of the Year A Rolling Stone Best Music Book of the Year “Brooks traces all kinds of lines, finding unexpected points of connection...inviting voices to talk to one another, seeing what different perspectives can offer, opening up new ways of looking and listening by tracing lineages and calling for more space.” —New York Times An award-winning Black feminist music critic takes us on an epic journey through radical sound from Bessie Smith to Beyoncé. Daphne A. Brooks explores more than a century of music archives to examine the critics, collectors, and listeners who have determined perceptions of Black women on stage and in the recording studio. How is it possible, she asks, that iconic artists such as Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé exist simultaneously at the center and on the fringe of the culture industry? Liner Notes for the Revolution offers a startling new perspective on these acclaimed figures—a perspective informed by the overlooked contributions of other Black women concerned with the work of their musical peers. Zora Neale Hurston appears as a sound archivist and a performer, Lorraine Hansberry as a queer Black feminist critic of modern culture, and Pauline Hopkins as America’s first Black female cultural commentator. Brooks tackles the complicated racial politics of blues music recording, song collecting, and rock and roll criticism. She makes lyrical forays into the blues pioneers Bessie Smith and Mamie Smith, as well as fans who became critics, like the record-label entrepreneur and writer Rosetta Reitz. In the twenty-first century, pop superstar Janelle Monae’s liner notes are recognized for their innovations, while celebrated singers Cécile McLorin Salvant, Rhiannon Giddens, and Valerie June take their place as cultural historians. With an innovative perspective on the story of Black women in popular music—and who should rightly tell it—Liner Notes for the Revolution pioneers a long overdue recognition and celebration of Black women musicians as radical intellectuals.

The human world is changing. Old social structures are being overwhelmed by forces of social transformation which are sweeping across political and cultural frontiers. A social animal is becoming the social species. The animal that lives in packs and herds (family, corporation, nation, state) is becoming a member of a human society which is the society of all human beings, the society of all societies. The age-old problems of social life - religious, philosophical, moral, political, legal, economic - must now be addressed at the level of the whole species, and the level where all cultures and traditions meet and will contribute to an exhilarating and hazardous new form of human self-evolving. In this book Philip Allott explores the social and legal implications and potentialities of these developments in the light of the general theory of society and law which is proposed in his groundbreaking Eunomia: New Order for a New World.
