Originally published in 1916, this book by George Sampson is a powerful meditation on the role of education in shaping national identity. Sampson argues that schools should emphasize British culture and history, and that children should be taught to take pride in their English heritage. Written in the midst of World War I, this book is a compelling reflection on the meaning of national identity and the importance of education in shaping it. Prisoners Of Time Research written by United States. National Education Commission on Time and Learning and has been published by Commission this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Education categories.

The Education Council Act of 1991 Established the National Education Commission on Time and Learning as an independent advisory body and called for a comprehensive review of the relationship between time and learning in American schools. The commission's report, released in May 1994, found that school reform is destined to founder unless programs provide time for learning. This document is a supplementary volume to the first report, summarizing research and suggesting an agenda for further research. Section I, comprised of four chapters, summarizes research findings considered by the commission. These chapters review research regarding four of the commission's substantive recommendations: (1) reclaim the academic day; (2) fix the design flaw; (3) keep schools open to meet the needs of children and communities; and (4) give teachers professional time and opportunities. The second section outlines a number of critical questions asked by the commission for which little or inadequate information was available. It returns to the four major concerns of the preceding chapters and specifies further information needed in these areas. Two figures are included. (Contains 116 references.) (LMI)

This book makes a timely contribution to understanding perceptions on national identity and National Education, with both of them have become controversial topics in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. In a so-called globalization era, national identity and National Education, with the latter having an aim of fostering a Chinese national identity in education, have been significantly pushed ahead by the Hong Kong SAR government since the early 2000s as a response to the return of sovereignty to China in 1997. Teacher perception matters to what they select and how they teach in the schools. By incorporating fieldworks of teacher interviews, observation and documentary analysis, this book argues for a multi-layered conception of identity, different aims, contents and diversified methods of National Education should be recognized. This book is likely to become a useful account of teacher perception on national identity and National Education in citizenship education literature, and it will be relevant to policymakers, teachers, trainers and researchers. Chapters include, 1. Different meanings of national identity of teachers and aims, contents and methods of National Education 2. From Citizenship Education to National Education in a Chinese society 3. Implications for understanding National Education in a globalization era: mixed identification, multi-layered identities, knowledge transmission, and ‘global identity’
