This book features methodological and theoretical perspectives that embody fundamental questions concerning the historical paradigm of Atlantic Studies and beyond to explore, cultural theory, visual culture, literature, and the narratives and iconography of popular culture (among others). Embracing a transdisciplinary and forward-looking approach, the volume charts new directions for understanding the Atlantic world through contributions that examine river networks, transatlantic Indigenous travel, the circulation of letters and "exotic" animals, the French Atlantic slave trade, and museum spaces as sites of decolonizing processes. It also proposes expanded geographies—such as viewing the Atlantic from the Arctic—and reconsiders the cultural currents that continue to shape global imaginaries. This collection marks the twentieth anniversary of Atlantic Studies: Global Currents, offering a timely reflection on the journal’s legacy while pointing to the future of the field. This volume will be of interest to scholars and students in Atlantic Studies, history, literary and cultural studies, art history, postcolonial studies, and global and transoceanic studies.

Over the last 30 years there has been a substantial increase in the study of the history of translation. Both well-known and lesser-known specialists in translation studies have worked tirelessly to give the history of translation its rightful place. Clearly, progress has been made, and the history of translation has become a viable independent research area. This book aims at claiming such autonomy for the field with a renewed vigour. It seeks to explore issues related to methodology as well as a variety of discourses on history with a view to laying the groundwork for new avenues, new models, new methods. It aspires to challenge existing theoretical and ideological frameworks. It looks toward the future of history. It is an attempt to address shortcomings that have prevented translation history from reaching its full disciplinary potential. From microhistory, archaeology, periodization, to issues of subjectivity and postmodernism, methodological lacunae are being filled. Contributors to this volume go far beyond the text to uncover the role translation has played in many different times and settings such as Europe, Africa, Latin America, the Middle-East and Asia from the 6th century to the 20th. These contributions, which deal variously with the discourses on methodology and history, recast the discipline of translation history in a new light and pave the way to the future of research and teaching in the field. Published in English.

"This monumental study, by arguably the most respected economic policymaker in the Cambodian government over the past decade, is a very welcome addition to the sparse literature on the Cambodian economy. It is destined to become the standard reference on economic development in post-conflict Cambodia. The volume's 25 chapters are grouped into nine sections: geography and population, the macroeconomic framework, the challenge of modernising agriculture, the challenge of industrialisation, services and infrastructure, human resource development, international economic relations and a conclusion. The content is encyclopaedic, with an immense amount of detail on practically every conceivable aspect of the country's development. Dr Naron is to be congratulated for fitting this admirable project into his extremely demanding 'daytime' job as the secretary of state in the Ministry of Economy and Finance, along with many other responsibilities. Among the many reasons to welcome its publication is its authentic Cambodian voice and perspective in a literature dominated by foreign researchers. A generation of scholars on the Cambodian economy and all those with an interest in the country are in his debt" (Asian-Pacific Economic Literature).

A smart and surprising political inventory for how America can reunite and revitalize in a time of crisis. Written by an admired leader of the Republican party, Rally Point: Five Tasks to Unite the Country and Revitalize the American Dream looks past the 2016 election, past the finger pointing and conventional political thinking, to focus on clear, primary principles that conservatives must debate and defend to protect the future of America. Raised in a working-class family in upstate New York, the first in his family to go to college, paid for in part by his service in the National Guard, Chris Gibson rose from Private to Colonel in the Army, including combat command in the storied 82nd Airborne Division. RALLY POINT is his story: what he's learned from the "School of Hard Knocks" and how he's applied those precious life lessons during his service in Iraq and in Congress. Drawn from a deep appreciation of history and American exceptionalism, Gibson provides incisive and frank analysis of the current political environment, including President Trump, and provides a roadmap based on time-tested Founding principles to help unite our country and revitalize the American Dream. RALLY POINT is a thoughtful, compelling, enjoyable read - a must for serious-minded Americans looking for answers in this challenging political environment.

Which lines on the map matter most? It's time to reimagine how life is organized on Earth. In Connectography, Parag Khanna guides us through the emerging global network civilization in which mega-cities compete over connectivity and borders are increasingly irrelevant. Travelling across the world, Khanna shows how twenty-first-century conflict is a tug-of-war over pipelines and Internet cables, advanced technologies and market access. Yet Connectography also offers a hopeful vision of the future - beneath the chaos of a world that appears to be falling apart, a new foundation of connectivity is pulling it together.

Visionary solutions for a community ripe for transformational change--from fourteen leading innovators of Jewish life. "Jewish Megatrends offers a vision for a community that can simultaneously strengthen the institutions that serve those who seek greater Jewish identification and attract younger Jews, many of whom are currently outside the orbit of Jewish communal life. Schwarz and his collaborators provide an exciting path, building on proven examples, that we ignore at our peril." --from the Foreword The American Jewish community is riddled with doubts about the viability of the institutions that well served the Jewish community of the twentieth century. Synagogues, Federations and Jewish membership organizations have yet to figure out how to meet the changing interests and needs of the next generation. In this challenging yet hopeful call for transformational change, visionary leader Rabbi Sidney Schwarz looks at the social norms that are shaping the habits and lifestyles of younger American Jews and why the next generation is so resistant to participate in the institutions of Jewish communal life as they currently exist. He sets out four guiding principles that can drive a renaissance in Jewish life and gives evidence of how, on the margins of the Jewish community, those principles are already generating enthusiasm and engagement from the very millennials that the organized Jewish community has yet to engage. Contributors--leading innovators from different sectors of the Jewish community--each use Rabbi Schwarz's framework as a springboard to set forth their particular vision for the future of their sector of Jewish life and beyond.
