"HAS AS MANY INS AND OUTS AS A CHAMPIONSHIP JUMPING COURSE. Take a deep seat and a firm rein and canter along." --Washington Times The official version says that former beauty queen Josane Ashmore died after being trampled by her unruly chestnut mare. Her mother declares it was murder. Yet when Charlotte reporters Natalie Gold and Henry Goode go to Virginia to prove it, they find more questions than answers. Who set Josane up in her charming Middleburg shop? Why were her personal belongings disposed of so quickly? And, perhaps most chilling, who keeps trying to kill Nattie and Henry? "A tight, no-way-to-put-it-down whodunit that'll keep you guessing, gasping, and chuckling to the end." --Lexington Herald-Leader "[A] galloping plot." --People

Amy loves to stay on Barnabus Johansson's farm in her school holidays to get away from city life. It's her safe haven, with animals like Tripod the three-legged dog, Molly the goat, and Gutsache the cat. It's where she rides her beloved Chestnut Mare. When tragedy strikes, Amy learns some of the harsh realities of country life but bravely steps in to protect a frail new-born foal that will carry a legacy of love. Review: Marion Day's preteen novella, The Chestnut Mare, is a marvellous coming of age story set in remote bush. I loved Day's descriptions of the environment and the birds and creatures Amy sees during her visit. And, like Amy, I really didn't want to leave the farm when her holidays drew to a close. While The Chestnut Mare was written for a preteen audience, I found it very moving and enjoyable. Day describes a world that's quite different than the modern one Amy knows from school and home - one that Amy plans to stay in once she's finished with school. The Chestnut Mare is most highly recommended. Jack Magnus (Readers' Favorite Reviewer)

Stable Lass written by Gemma Hogg and has been published by Pan Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-05 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

'Poignant and compelling, an equine Bridget Jones.' – Racing Post Being a stable lass is probably one of the hardest jobs in the country, and yet for Gemma Hogg it is the most rewarding. She works in the beautiful Yorkshire market town of Middleham and if her colleagues are occasionally challenging, then the horses are downright astonishing. Now, in Stable Lass, she takes us into the closed world of a top racing yard, from the elation of having several winners in one day to the almost indescribable grief of losing a horse. Like most stable lads and lasses, Gemma arrived in her yard as a teenager fresh out of racing college and had to cope with living away from home for the first time, as well as adapting to the brutal long hours, backbreaking work and often treacherous weather. She describes falling in love with Polo Venture, the first racehorse in her care, the pure exhilaration of riding him on Middleham Gallops for the first time and what happens when a horse takes against you, from the growling gelding Valiant Warrior to the potentially lethal Broadway Boy. She brings to life the characters around the yard, from straight-talking boss Micky Hammond to the jockeys starving themselves to make weight, the wealthy owners and the other stable lads and lasses who come from a range of different places and backgrounds. Stable Lass by Gemma Hogg is a unique look into the world of horse racing filled with heart-warming stories and amazing thoroughbreds – some loveable, some cantankerous, all impressive.

Beware The Leaven written by James Vanore and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-02-18 with Fiction categories.

Beware the Leaven is a vampire novel like no other. The definitive vampire tale. History's first vampire is identified, and their unending bloodlust is finally explained. In identifying history's first vampire, and the reason for the creature's birth, the novel breaks ground previously untread within the genre. The vampire's bloodlust is meticulously explained. Not just any blood will do, and there are caveats, even for the undead as they stalk humanity. But if the proper bloodline is ultimately found, humanity may well face a quick and unthinkable end. Only the custodians stand between the vampire population and their prey, and the custodians' line predates even that of the vampire. Beware the Leaven will cause the reader to think about vampirism as never before. Published in Italy (Newton-Compton) in 2007 as "il Vangelo dei Vampiri," Beware the Leaven is now in it's third Italian printing.

It Begins, It Ends, It Ends, It Begins is a collection of sketches describing some of the author, Judy Richter’s, memories of life on and off her one-hundred-acre farm in Bedford, New York. Coker Farm is home to Richter’s avocation, as well as her vocation. For over forty-five years Richter has been in the horse business, training young riders and horses for show competition. The farm is a “still point in a turning world” for her family and friends. Though many now are grown and gone, they keep in touch on the Internet and Facebook! Having been actively involved in the sport for nearly half a century, Richter has seen many changes, but she feels “the more things change, the more they remain the same,” thanks to the abiding generosity of the horses. To spend her life in the company of these noble creatures is indeed a blessing.

Breed Differences In Dog Behavior written by Renee Robinette Ha and has been published by CABI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-10 with Science categories.

Humans have bred dogs for physical and behavioral characteristics for millennia. These efforts can have unintended side effects, however, which may be either advantageous or cause issues - such as a predisposition to certain medical complaints, or, controversially, behavioural issues. The scientific study of domestic dogs is still in its infancy, but public demand for this information is at a record high as more and more pet owners seek to understand their canine family members. Focusing on the behavioral differences and tendencies that have arisen in different breed lines, this book explores, summarizes, and explains the scientific evidence on what breed can tell us about behaviour - and, crucially, what it cannot. Providing a comprehensive and approachable view of the science behind breed-specific behaviors, this book gives dog enthusiasts from all professional and personal backgrounds a better understanding of why dogs do what they do, and how we can improve our relationships with our canine companions. Covering genetics, phylogeny of canids, temperament, aggression, social behavior, and the history of dog breeding, it is an important read for researchers, students, veterinary practitioners and animal behaviourists, as well as shelter staff, dog trainers, or anyone looking for a greater understanding of dog breed differences.
