Chimie Des Surfaces Et Catalyse written by Gabor A. Somorjai (Chemiker, Ungarn) and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with categories.

Now updated-the current state of development of modern surface science Since the publication of the first edition of this book, molecular surface chemistry and catalysis science have developed rapidly and expanded into fields where atomic scale and molecular information were previously not available. This revised edition of Introduction to Surface Chemistry and Catalysis reflects this increase of information in virtually every chapter. It emphasizes the modern concepts of surface chemistry and catalysis uncovered by breakthroughs in molecular-level studies of surfaces over the past three decades while serving as a reference source for data and concepts related to properties of surfaces and interfaces. The book opens with a brief history of the evolution of surface chemistry and reviews the nature of various surfaces and interfaces encountered in everyday life. New research in two crucial areas-nanomaterials and polymer and biopolymer interfaces-is emphasized, while important applications in tribology and catalysis, producing chemicals and fuels with high turnover and selectivity, are addressed. The basic concepts surrounding various properties of surfaces such as structure, thermodynamics, dynamics, electrical properties, and surface chemical bonds are presented. The techniques of atomic and molecular scale studies of surfaces are listed with references to up-to-date review papers. For advanced readers, this book covers recent developments in in-situ surface analysis such as high- pressure scanning tunneling microscopy, ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG). Tables listing surface structures and data summarizing the kinetics of catalytic reactions over metal surfaces are also included. New to this edition: A discussion of new physical and chemical properties of nanoparticles Ways to utilize new surface science techniques to study properties of polymers, reaction intermediates, and mobility of atoms and molecules at surfaces Molecular-level studies on the origin of the selectivity for several catalytic reactions A microscopic understanding of mechanical properties of surfaces Updated tables of experimental data A new chapter on "soft" surfaces, polymers, and biointerfaces Introduction to Surface Chemistry and Catalysis serves as a textbook for undergraduate and graduate students taking advanced courses in physics, chemistry, engineering, and materials science, as well as researchers in surface science, catalysis science, and their applications.

Structure And Reactivity Of Surfaces written by C. Morterra and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989-07-01 with Science categories.

Between the area known as surface science (which mainly deals with single crystal surfaces) and the vast area of the surface properties of dispersed solids (knowledge of which is widely applied in catalysis and materials science) there is still a remarkably wide, although gradually decreasing, gap. Because fundamental physico-chemical problems are involved, this borderline area needs to be explored. With this objective, the Trieste meeting brought together specialists with a variety of origins and backgrounds, with the aim of stimulating the growth of our knowledge in this area. This proceedings volume contains ninety-three papers, comprising plenary lectures, short communications, and poster contributions on the applications of physical and theoretical methods to perfect and dispersed (microcrystalline and amorphous) metals, oxides, and mixed systems. Special emphasis is given to metal-support interfaces. The book thus provides a wealth of up-to-date information on a topic of current interest which will be of value to researchers who use chemical and/or physical methods for the study of surfaces.

Material Concepts in Surface Reactivity and Catalysis focuses on the physical and chemical properties of the surface in a reacting system, identifying surface properties that influence interfacial reactions in metal and nonmetal systems. This book discusses the bulk and surface imperfections, surface energy of multicomponent systems, adsorption isotherms and isosteres, and Lennard-Jones potential curves. The adsorbate-induced surface reconstruction, metal-support reactions, defect thermodynamics, and defect metal oxides with crystallographic shear structures are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the metal oxide catalysis, component segregation at grain boundaries, diffusion-controlled metal oxidation, and kinetics of metal deposition. This publication is useful to students in materials science, solid-state chemistry, and catalysis, as well as specialists engaged in research.

In 2001 Wyn Roberts celebrated both his 70th birthday and 50 years of working in surface science, to use the term "surface science" in its broadest meaning. This book aims to mark the anniversary with a contribution of lasting value, something more than the usual festschrift issue of a relevant journal. The book is divided into three sections: Surface Science, Model Catalysts and Catalysis, topics in which Wyn has always had interests. The authors for each chapter were chosen from some of the many eminent scientists who have worked with Wyn in various ways and are all internationally acknowledged as leaders in their field. The authors have produced authoritative reviews of their own specialties which together result in a book with an unrivalled combination of breadth and depth exploring the most recent developments in surface chemistry and catalysis.

When we see a jumbo jet at the airport, we sometimes wonder how such a huge, heavy plane can fly high in the sky. To the extent that we think in a static way, it is certainly not understandable. In such a manner, dynamics yields behavior quite different from statics. When we want to prepare an iron nitride, for example, one of the most orthodox ways is to put iron in a nitrogen atmosphere under pressures higher than the dissociation pressure of the iron nitride at temperatures sufficiently high to let the nitrogen penetrate into the bulk iron. This is the way thermodynamics tells us to proceed, which requires an elaborate, expensive high-pressure apparatus, sophisticated techniques, and great efforts. However, if we flow ammonia over the iron, even under low pressures, we can easily prepare the nitride-provided the hydrogen pressure is sufficiently low. Since the nitrogen desorption rate is the determining step of the ammonia decomposition on the iron surface, the virtual pressure of nitrogen at the surface can reach an extremely high level (as is generally accepted) because, in such a dynamic system, the driving force of the ammonia decomposition reaction pushes the nitrogen into the bulk iron to form the nitride. Thus, dynamics is an approach considerably different from statics.
