The author Mr. S Srinivasan is a man of many passions- Union activist by profession, a pioneer in the bank employees’ union movement, a social empathist, an ideologist, a mathematics enthusiast, a teacher, a writer and a man of deep humanitarian conviction He became an activist for the rights and moralities of the staff in the banking sector, soon finding his way up the value chain in the All India Overseas Bank Employees Union and ultimately serving as the General Secretary of the Union for 23 years. In the year 1991, he was first appointed as the workmen director on the Board of Directors of Indian overseas Bank. During his tenure, he continually strived for the betterment of the bank and its people, and in making them aware of their rights and responsibilities, and in motivating and mobilizing them to follow their conviction. He successfully established innumerable historic welfare schemes, benefits, and inimitable settlements for the employees and authored, compiled and published several trade union information books and essays; his most significant work being the ‘Know your Rights’ volumes which was recommended as a reference compendium of Service Conditions by the management of Indian Overseas Bank to their respective regional offices the genesis of these books lay in the long felt need for compilation containing authentic and updated materials drawn from various resourceful materials which collected and compiled notes. The book is in two volumes. Volume 1 deals with ‘know your defence’ in domestic enquiry which contains important aspects of domestic enquires in question answer form chapter wise as well inclusion some land mark high court and supreme court decisions in favour of the employee. In many South Asian oral traditions, herons are viewed as duplicitous and conniving. These traditions tend also to view women as fragmented identities, dangerously split between virtue and virtuosity, between loyalties to their own families and those of their husbands. In women's songs, however, symbolic herons speak, telling of alternative moral perspectives shaped by women. The heron's words—and women's expressive genres more generally—criticize pervasive North Indian ideologies of gender and kinship that place women in subordinate positions. By inviting readers to "listen to the heron's words," the authors convey this shift in moral perspective and suggest that these spoken truths are compelling and consequential for the women in North India. The songs and narratives bear witness to a provocative cultural dissonance embedded in women's speech. In the present volume, for the first time, a connected history of the Chauhans, from their beginnings in Bhrgukachchha in eight century A.D. to the time of Ala-ud-din Khalji and Hammira in the fourteenth century has been presented. The author has shown that the Agnikula myth goes back to the Ramayana and is, in fact, traditional to Aryan Hindus. He also establishes conclusively that contrary to the common belief that India fell an easy prey to Muslim invaders, and the resistance of the Hindu rulers broke down after the defeat of Prthviraja, the descendants of the Chauhan Emperor, even after they lost Ajmer, continued to fight with determination for two hundred years. Considerable new light is also thrown on the relations between the Chaulukya Empire and the Chauhans of Sakambhari, especially during the reigns of Siddharaja and Kumarapala. A valuable portion of the book is devoted to the social and economic condition of the Chauhan territory during the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The enumeration and identification of the towns and villages in the country collected from the literature of the time is especially important. The names of the coins in use, the weights and measures will also be found very useful.
