Excerpt from Choosing a Vocation The manuscript of this book was practically ready for publication when Professor Parsons died. For a year prior to his death he had given a large part of his time to Vocation Bureau work. Some of the material here used appeared in articles in The Arena, and a number of the "cases" in Part III have been published in the daily papers of Boston and New York. The appearance of these articles brought hundreds of letters of inquiry from all parts of the United States, expressing interest in the effort to give scientific vocational counsel to the young. That Professor Parsons would have carried the plan to a greater completeness had he lived, there is no doubt; but the work that he did do is of such value that it is believed many will be grateful to get such information about it as can be given in this volume. Whatever doubts there may be of the practicability of giving expert vocational counsel to young men and women, there are certain simple truths upon which the plan is based, and which I believe no one will deny. 1. It is better to choose a vocation than merely to "hunt a job." 2. No one should choose a vocation without careful self-analysis, thorough, honest, and under guidance. 3. The youth should have a large survey of the field of vocations, and not simply drop into the convenient or accidental position. Choosing A Career written by G. A. De Caillavet and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-10 with Drama categories.

Excerpt from Choosing a Career: A Play in One Act To mention Caillavet independently of his collaborator, Robert de Flers, is most unusual: "Flers and Caillavet" is a dramatist. For some fifteen years these men have written plays in which the art and personalities of the two are so welded together that it is impossible to distinguish which part was written by which. "L' Amour veille" ("Love Watches"), "Le Bois sacre" ("Decorating Clementine"), "Primerose," and "La Belle aventure" ("The Beautiful Adventure") are among the comedies of these writers which are already known to the American stage, yet practically all their plays have been performed successfully in every important city on the Continent. The incomparable wit, humor, charm and sprightliness of the Flers-Caillavet union have made it justly celebrated. Gaston-Armand de Caillavet began his dramatic career as director of a revue in a little theater on the second story of the Eiffel Tower. Here he produced short plays and here learned his first lessons for, as he once confessed, he had to come in the elevator with part of his audience and hear their remarks - which were at times irritatingly true. "La Choix d'une carriere," which is here for the first time presented to English readers, was one of these early efforts, though it was produced at another theater. Choosing A Lifework Classic Reprint written by Lewis Ransom Fiske and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-11 with Self-Help categories.

Excerpt from Choosing a Lifework This book has been written with a sincere desire to supply young men and women with information that will aid them in making a rational and profitable choice in the selection of their lifework. The question of the proper choice of a business or profession is often a perplexing one, and an experience of many years in intimate relations with young people in our higher schools of learning has convinced the writer that it is perplexing because of lack of the knowledge necessary to make an intelligent decision. The author has sought to unfold that which lies at the foundation of our great industries, presenting what is vital in the subjects themselves - not simply writing about them. There is much connected with law, medicine, the ministry, pedagogy, journalism, agriculture, mechanic arts, commerce, etc., which should be understood before the individual chooses any one of these as his life pursuit. He should have some idea of what he will encounter before he commits himself irrevocably to a special line of preparation. Excerpt from Engineering as a Vocation The subject matter of this work has been rearranged (with additions) from a number of addresses given before technical schools and asso ciations of engineer assistants. It is published for the information of parents in order that they may act wisely in selecting a career for their sons. Semi-technical periodicals and daily newspapers are bureaus of information consulted frequently by ill-informed parents; and, perhaps, more than half the students now in technical schools are there because of opinions obtained as valuable advice from such sources.
