Is artificial intelligence (AI) becoming more and more expressive, or is human thought adopting more and more structures from computation? What does it mean to perform oneself through AI, or to construct one’s subjectivity through AI? How does AI continue to complicate what it means to have a body? Has the golden age of AI, especially with regards to creative applications, already ended? Choreomata: Performance and Performativity after AI is a book about performance and performativity, but more specifically, it is a book about the performance of artificiality and the performance of intelligence. Both humans and human-designed computational forces are thoroughly engaged in an entangled, mutual performance of AI. Choreomata spins up a latticework of interdisciplinary thought, pairing theoretical inquiry from philosophy, information theory, and computer science with practical case studies from visual art, dance, music, and social theory. Through cross-disciplinary proportions and a diverse roster of contributors, this book contains insights for computer scientists, social scientists, industry professionals, artists, and beyond.

This book critically examines the integration of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in music education, exploring its transformative potential and associated risks. It underscores the necessity for innovative AI pedagogies across music and the arts, offering educators, researchers, and policymakers valuable insights for incorporating Gen AI into teaching while mitigating its hazards. By adopting a balanced critical perspective, the book aims to promote a dynamic, inclusive, and responsible educational approach that is responsive to the rapid advancements in adaptive technology. The book's argumentation is grounded in synthesizing Deweyan pragmatist and Baradian posthumanist philosophical perspectives. These perspectives collectively provide a framework for addressing the deployment of Gen AI in music education within a broader ethical context of global sustainability. The book is also informed by the author's many years as a scholar of music education.

The contributors to this volume explore the intertwined relationship of imagining and practicing from different fields of study (sociology, philosophy, literary and cultural studies), complementing practice and theoretical approaches with interdisciplinary insights into the entanglements of doings and imaginations. They build a bridge between sociological research and cultural studies and thus challenge perspectives which characterize imagining as an individual and solitary activity. Rather, imagining is situated and shaped by its placement in specific contexts and communities.

Art In The Age Of Machine Learning written by Sofian Audry and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-23 with Art categories.

An examination of machine learning art and its practice in new media art and music. Over the past decade, an artistic movement has emerged that draws on machine learning as both inspiration and medium. In this book, transdisciplinary artist-researcher Sofian Audry examines artistic practices at the intersection of machine learning and new media art, providing conceptual tools and historical perspectives for new media artists, musicians, composers, writers, curators, and theorists. Audry looks at works from a broad range of practices, including new media installation, robotic art, visual art, electronic music and sound, and electronic literature, connecting machine learning art to such earlier artistic practices as cybernetics art, artificial life art, and evolutionary art. Machine learning underlies computational systems that are biologically inspired, statistically driven, agent-based networked entities that program themselves. Audry explains the fundamental design of machine learning algorithmic structures in terms accessible to the nonspecialist while framing these technologies within larger historical and conceptual spaces. Audry debunks myths about machine learning art, including the ideas that machine learning can create art without artists and that machine learning will soon bring about superhuman intelligence and creativity. Audry considers learning procedures, describing how artists hijack the training process by playing with evaluative functions; discusses trainable machines and models, explaining how different types of machine learning systems enable different kinds of artistic practices; and reviews the role of data in machine learning art, showing how artists use data as a raw material to steer learning systems and arguing that machine learning allows for novel forms of algorithmic remixes.

Intelligence And Spirit written by Reza Negarestani and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-27 with Philosophy categories.

A critique of both classical humanism and dominant trends in posthumanism that formulates the ultimate form of intelligence as a theoretical and practical thought unfettered by the temporal order of things. In Intelligence and Spirit Reza Negarestani formulates the ultimate form of intelligence as a theoretical and practical thought unfettered by the temporal order of things, a real movement capable of overcoming any state of affairs that, from the perspective of the present, may appear to be the complete totality of history. Intelligence pierces through what seems to be the totality or the inevitable outcome of its history, be it the manifest portrait of the human or technocapitalism as the alleged pilot of history. Building on Hegel's account of Geist as a multiagent conception of mind and on Kant's transcendental psychology as a functional analysis of the conditions of possibility of mind, Negarestani provides a critique of both classical humanism and dominant trends in posthumanism. The assumptions of the former are exposed by way of a critique of the transcendental structure of experience as a tissue of subjective or psychological dogmas; the claims of the latter regarding the ubiquity of mind or the inevitable advent of an unconstrained superintelligence are challenged as no more than ideological fixations which do not stand the test of systematic scrutiny. This remarkable fusion of continental philosophy in the form of a renewal of the speculative ambitions of German Idealism and analytic philosophy in the form of extended thought-experiments and a philosophy of artificial languages opens up new perspectives on the meaning of human intelligence and explores the real potential of posthuman intelligence and what it means for us to live in its prehistory.

Snuff Memories written by David Roden and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-01-30 with categories.

From Schism [2] Press It is enough to glance at the footnotes - from masters of body horror like Cronenberg, Ballard and Barker to post-structuralist philosophers of the self like Derrida, Nancy and Deleuze - to grasp the intention of Snuff Memories. Unveiling like a tableau of ancient gods and deathly orgies, where "the universe is composed out of windowless monads each locked away and screaming," this evocative novel is better called a theoretical installation. Each fragment documenting an erotic way to lose one's humanity, this is a collection of nightmarish yet utopian miniature visions of sex, death, transformation, and pain, where human bodies are stretched beyond their capacity into mythical realms. Brutal and evocative, at once a prose poem and a theory of the limit, Snuff Memories creates a mythology of enticing and deadly encounters with mutants, matriarchs, and goddesses, documenting a multitude of ways in which one can be erotically and philosophically disemboweled. - Bogna M. Konior, Research Fellow, NYU Shanghai, Interactive Media Arts department & AI and Culture Research Centre Snuff Memories is Sadean. Not because of its commitment to detailing the minutiae of posthuman pornographic excess (although that is certainly an important part of the work) but because of its obsession with permutation. Everything is erected, demolished, decentred, and respooled, before being forced out to the limits once again. Bodies effervesce in fatal conjugations, topologies deform, fuzz out and remerge everted, like bad DOOM skins, covered in blood. The posthuman cannot be known before it is produced-so to know it, we must produce it. And until we really are swept up in these disorienting forces-merciless, murderous, erotic perhaps-we have literature. Snuff Memories is a book for anyone who ever secretly wanted to get dommed by fiction. - Amy Ireland

Dancers who want to get the most out of their experience in dance—whether in college, high school, a dance studio, or a dance company—can now take charge of their wellness. Dancer Wellness will help them learn and apply important wellness concepts as presented through the in-depth research conducted by the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) and their experts from around the world. Four Primary Areas Dancer Wellness covers four primary topics: Foundations of dancer wellness, which explores the dancer’s physical environment, the science behind training, and conditioning Mental components of dancer wellness, which investigates the psychological aspects that influence a dancer’s training—imagery, somatic practices, and the ways that rest, fatigue, and burnout affect learning, technique, and injury risk and recovery Physical aspects of dancer wellness, which examines dancer nutrition and wellness, including the challenges in maintaining good nutrition, addressing body composition issues, bone health, injury prevention, and first aid Assessments for dancer wellness, which offers guidance in goal setting, screenings, assessing abilities, and designing a personal wellness plan Each chapter offers learning objectives at the beginning and review questions at the end to help readers recall what they have learned. Sidebars within each chapter focus on self-awareness, empowerment, goal setting, and diversity in dance. “Dancer Wellness meets the needs of dancers in any setting,” says Virginia Wilmerding, one of the book’s editors from IADMS. “Our authors are leaders in the field, and they thoroughly investigate their areas of specialization. Through that investigation we have provided theoretical concepts and practical information and applications that dancers can use to enhance their health and wellness as part of their dance practice.” This text offers foundational information to create a comprehensive view of dancer wellness. “Wellness defines the state of being healthy in both mind and body through conscious and intentional choices and efforts,” says coeditor Donna Krasnow. “Anyone interested in the health and wellness of dancers can benefit from this book, regardless of previous training or level of expertise.
