Excerpt from Christ's Cure for Care Thank God, there is a blessed Gospel for busy men and burdened women, but it must be a Gospel that is fitted for their moments of leisure. Whatever it may lack at the hands of him who brings it, there must not be want ing sympathy, interest, homeliness. This has been my thought, my aim, my prayer in writing this book. The homeliest of ills, I have sought to deal with it in homeliest fashion. To make it the more complete I have added such hymns as seemed likely to set forth its teaching more fully; for there is a soothing in the lilt and rhythm of words as well as in their sentiment, for which a jaded soul is often grateful. For the use of Miss Rossetti's poem, I have to acknowledge my indebtedness to Messrs. Macmillan. Of the hymns, I can not find that any permission is required for their use. If I am mistaken I must ask forgiveness, and will hasten to correct the error. The chapter headed Consider the Lilies was for the most part published some time ago in another form. Excerpt from The Secret of Progress Buckle1 regarded it as clear that militarism and high intellectual development were not compatible: till recently, many people were prepared to believe that warfare was alien to the interest of civilised peoples and could only occur among half civilised or backward races. But this war has shown that these hopes were vain, and that the last result of civilisation was not to render war impossible, but to give the means of carrying it out on a vastly extended scale. The increase of knowledge and of power over nature, and the sense of the benefits of intercourse and inter-communication have not sufficed to give us any immunity from war. Still Time To Care written by Greg Johnson and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-07 with Religion categories.

At the start of the gay rights movement in 1969, evangelicalism's leading voices cast a vision for gay people who turn to Jesus. It was C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Francis Schaeffer and John Stott who were among the most respected leaders within theologically orthodox Protestantism. We see with them a positive pastoral approach toward gay people, an approach that viewed homosexuality as a fallen condition experienced by some Christians who needed care more than cure. With the birth and rise of the ex-gay movement, the focus shifted from care to cure. As a result, there are an estimated 700,000 people alive today who underwent conversion therapy in the United States alone. Many of these patients were treated by faith-based, testimony-driven parachurch ministries centered on the ex-gay script. Despite the best of intentions, the movement ended with very troubling results. Yet the ex-gay movement died not because it had the wrong sex ethic. It died because it was founded on a practice that diminished the beauty of the gospel. Yet even after the closure of the ex-gay umbrella organization Exodus International in 2013, the ex-gay script continues to walk about as the undead among us, pressuring people like me to say, "I used to be gay, but I'm not gay anymore. Now I'm just same-sex attracted." For orthodox Christians, the way forward is a path back to where we were forty years ago. It is time again to focus with our Neo-Evangelical fathers on care--not cure--for our non-straight sisters and brothers who are living lives of costly obedience to Jesus. With warmth and humor as well as original research, Still Time to Care will chart the path forward for our churches and ministries in providing care. It will provide guidance for the gay person who hears the gospel and finds themselves smitten by the life-giving call of Jesus. Woven throughout the book will be Richard Lovelace’s 1978 call for a "double repentance" in which gay Christians repent of their homosexual sins and the church repents of its homophobia--putting on display for all the power of the gospel.

Excerpt from The Disease and Remedy of Sin It is the aim Of these pages to show that true religion, so far from being apart from real life, is the very essence Of it; that its truths are the laws of Spiritual Health, and that, far from being a dispensable luxury, they are more necessary than the bread we eat or the air we breathe. With this end, the various experiences of the soul in health and disease have been examined from a medical point of view. The volume therefore may be described as an Essay in the Psychology of Sin and Salvation from a medicinal standpoint. Christianity is everywhere regarded as the care and cure of spiritual disease. The prevalent category of thought is spiritual health the commanding goal is eternal life. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Pastoral Care In Context written by John Patton and has been published by Westminster John Knox Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-02-18 with Religion categories.

An expert in the field of pastoral care, John Patton demonstrates that pastoral care is a ministry of the church. He focuses on the community of faith as an authorizer and source of care and upon the relationship between the pastor and a caring community. Patton identifies and compares three paradigms of pastoral care: the classical, the clinical pastoral, and the communal contextual. This third paradigm emphasizes the caring community and the various contexts for care rather than focusing on pastoral care as the work of the ordained pastor.

Renowned pastor and bestselling author of The Prodigal Prophet Timothy Keller shares his most provocative and illuminating message yet. It is commonly thought in secular society that the Bible is one of the greatest hindrances to doing justice. Isn’t it full of regressive views? Didn’t it condone slavery? Why look to the Bible for guidance on how to have a more just society? But Timothy Keller challenges these preconceived beliefs and presents the Bible as a fundamental source for promoting justice and compassion for those in need. In Generous Justice, he explores a life of justice empowered by an experience of grace: a generous, gracious justice. This book offers readers a new understanding of modern justice and human rights that will resonate with both the faithful and the skeptical.

Into Your Hands Father written by Wilfried Stinissen and has been published by Ignatius Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-01-01 with Religion categories.

In the spiritual life, we need a central idea: something so basic and comprehensive that it encompasses everything else. According to Carmelite Father Wilfrid Stinissen, surrender to God, abandonment to the One who loves us completely, is that central reality. The life of Jesus shows us the centrality of abandonment, for it is truly the beginning and the end of his mission on earth. In this simple but profound book, Father Stinissen distinguishes three degrees or stages in abandonment. The first stage consists of accepting and assenting to God's will as it manifests itself in all circumstances of life. The second is actively doing God's will at every moment of one's life. In the third stage, abandonment to God is so complete that one has become a tool in God's hands. At this stage it is no longer I who do God's will, but God who accomplishes his will through me.
