CHELSEA FIXED INTO THE UEFA GOLDEN RECORDThe UEFA Champions League and its prior adaptation to the European Cup have encountered some astonishing finals. The word 'best' doesn't actually summarize it, particularly when one individual's meat is another's toxin. So in the soul of classifications, that will ideally add fuel to bar debate somewhere else. Below are some arguable facts about the Champions League Finals from 1955 to 2021. Most Defensive Victory: 2021. Chelsea went head to head with the favored resistance and won the first 45 minutes. The subsequent half began an entirely different note and that note just got stronger, with Manchester City overwhelming dominating and squeezing for the equalizer and Chelsea hoping to keep things tight at the back and counter whenever allowed the opportunity. Also, that approach by Thomas Tuchel functioned admirably and nearly flawlessly yet Christian Pulisic put his chip wide of the post when put through on the counter by Havertz. Most Noteworthy Comeback Final Overall: 2005. Liverpool won a 3-0 half-time shortfall to crush an all the more profoundly rated AC Milan. The second half match was settled on a penalty shootout following a 3-3 full-time scoreline with Steven Gerrard's Reds procuring themselves a completely merited page throughout the entire existence of Europe's top club contest. Exemplary Cinderella story, Most Brilliant Display of Football: 1994. In a conflict of titans, an AC Milan group led by Dejan Savicevic, Marcel Desailly, and Paolo Maldini revenge on a Barcelona arrangement that contained Romário and Hristo Stoichkov. The Italians were clinical in their execution. 4-0 was the eventual outcome. Fascinating tidbit - both Pep Guardiola and Ronald Koeman were on some unacceptable side of the scoreline that day as players. Most prominent Snatch and Grab strike: 1999. ETC, Get the full list on the inside page. Presently there have been some extraordinarily boring finals too... that could be an inquiry for some other time. In the blistering high summer of 2003, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich acquired Chelsea Football Club. It was a sensational event that sent shock waves reverberating around the global village that is celebrity football in the twenty-first century. Chelsea, the institution, was transformed overnight into arguably the most powerful club in the world by virtue of the vast fortune bestowed upon them by their benefactor. This was an amazing twist to a story that started almost a century before on a piece of wasteground in west London. The genesis of Chelsea, founded in 1905, was pioneered by the Mears family, who would remain at the helm for more than two-thirds of that century. Brian Mears was a particularly significant figure in his role as chairman throughout the colourful period from the end of the swinging '60s until the early 1980s. In this follow-up to the seminal Chelsea: Football Under the Blue Flag, Mears and Macleay recount the events that have engulfed London's most glamorous club over the years. Its exciting major players, including Hughie Gallacher, Roy Bentley, Jimmy Greaves, Peter Osgood, Alan Hudson, Kerry Dixon, Dennis Wise, Gianfranco Zola and Frank Lampard, have become creatures of myth. Meanwhile, managers such as Tommy Docherty, Dave Sexton, Glenn Hoddle, Ruud Gullit, Gianluca Vialli, Claudio Ranieri and Jos Mourinho have proved to be some of the most flamboyant and controversial in the history of the game. Chelsea: The 100-Year History is peopled with unforgettable characters like the peerless Terry Venables and the late Matthew Harding. It is an embodiment of Mears' own passion for the club as he traces some of the most important matches and crises in its sometimes tragic trajectory from glory to impoverishment and back again to a glorious 100th season.

"American sports agnostics might raise an eyebrow at the idea that soccer represents a staging ground for progressive cultural, social, and political possibility within the United States. It is just another game, after all, in a society where mass-audience spectator sport largely avoids any political stance in other than a generic, corporate-friendly patriotism. But John Sloop picks up on the work of Laurent Dubois and others to see in American soccer-a sport that has achieved immense participation and popularity even as it struggles to establish major league status-a game that permits surprisingly diverse modes of thinking about national identity because of its marginality. As a rhetorician who engages with both critical theory and culture, John Sloop seeks to read soccer as the game intersects with gender, race, sexuality, class, and the logic of neoliberal values. The result of this engagement is a sense of both enormous possibility, and real constraint. If American soccer offers more possibility because of its marginality, looking at how these cultural, social, and political possibilities are closed off or constrained can provide valuable insights into American culture and values. In Soccer's Neoliberal Pitch, Sloop analyzes a host of soccer-adjacent case studies: the equal pay dispute between the US women's national team and the US Soccer Federation, the significance of hooligan literature, the introduction of English soccer to American TV audiences, the strange invisibility of the Mexican soccer league despite its consistent high TV ratings, and the reading of US national teams as "underdogs" despite the nation's quasi-imperial dominance of the Western hemisphere. While there is a growing bookshelf of titles on soccer and a growing number on American soccer, Soccer's Neoliberal Pitch is the first and only book-length analysis of soccer through a rhetorical lens. This book is a model for critical cultural work with sports, with appeal to not only sports studies, but cultural studies, communication, and even gender studies classrooms. It is, independent of its bona fides, an engaging and enjoyable read for the soccer fan and the soccer-curious"--
