What relation has the Gospel of God's grace and the Kingdom of His love to the pressing problems of social justice? What is the Christian duty and responsibility concerning the achievement of just wages, just taxes, just punishments? By what methods and principles can we attain to a just order in family life, in economic life, in the state, and in international relations? What is the relation of Love to Justice, and of Justice to Equality? Brunner deals with burning questions of justice in a masterly fashion. Brunner writes as a Christian theologian but he does not write only for theologians, and his arguments challenge easy conclusions.

Ideas Of Social Order In The Ancient World written by Vilho Harle and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-03-25 with Political Science categories.

Harle focuses on the perennial issue of social order by providing a comparative analysis of ideas on social order in the classical Chinese political philosophy, the Indian epic and political literature, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, the classical Greek and Roman political thought, and early Christianity. His analysis is based on the religious, political, and literary texts that represent their respective civilizations as both their major achievements and sources of shared values. Harle maintains that two major approaches to establishing and maintaining social order exist in all levels and types of social relations: moral principles and political power. According to the principle-oriented approaches, social order will prevail if and when people follow strict moral principles. According to the contending power-oriented approach, orderly relations can only be based on the application of power by the ruler over the ruled. The principle-oriented approaches introduce a comprehensive civil society of individuals; the power-oriented approaches give major roles to the city-state, its government and relationships between them. The question of morality can be recognized also within the power-oriented approaches which either submit politics to morality or maintain that politics must be taken as nothing else than politics. This book is a contribution to peace and international studies as well as political theory and international relations.

Excerpt from Christianity and the Social Order It may not be out of place to say a word as to the way in which I have come to be identified with the Socialist movement. The first and most obvious influence in this direction was the study of Christian origins, which led me gradually but irresistibly to see that the first Christian preachers did not know of any other gospel than that of a universal brotherhood on earth. I have never been anything else than a liberal in theology - all assertions to the contrary notwith standing - but my way of presenting the truth in the earlier years of my ministry was necessarily less clear and coherent than at present, for it rested too much on the other-worldism of con ventional Christian preaching. The realisation that this other-worldism was totally absent from primitive Christian thought forced me, like so many others, upon What was practically the Socialist position without any first-hand acquaint ance with the Socialist movement itself. Inow regard Socialism as the practical expression of Christian ethics and the evangel of Jesus. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Reconstructing The Common Good written by Gary J. Dorrien and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-05-01 with Social Science categories.

This landmark study in the history and theory of modern Christian socialism examines the work of such major figures as Rauschenbusch, Tillich, Moltmann, GutiŽrrez, and M'guez Bonino. Dorrien argues that these theologians provide a singular context for addressing questions of freedom and totalitarianism, sacralization and democratization, individual autonomy and the common good. He focuses on the differing conceptions of the common good that these major theorists have propounded, and explicates as well their theological arguments on the relationship between the Kingdom of God and projects of historical praxis. With a new Preface addressing the tumultuous events in Eastern Europe, Reconstructing the Common Good develops and sustains a forceful argument for the continuing relevance of a decentralized, pluralistic, democratic form of socialism.
