Ch. 4 (pp. 89-116), "The People of the Jews, " discusses the demonization of the Jews in the Gospels-Acts (especially John) as the source of Christian anti-Judaism. Suggests that "the Jews" in the new Testament are propagandistic literary constructions with no relation to real Jews; but over the centuries these texts have been read as history. Rivalry between Christian and Jewish communities in the Roman Empire raised the level of vituperative rhetoric and justified the persecution of Jews which finally led to Auschwitz. Concludes that it is time to reinterpret the New Testament by means of critical reading.

The Sin We Treat As A Virtue written by B. Ward Powers and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-17 with Religion categories.

This book is for all those of us who love the Lord Jesus: because this whole topic is an issue that deeply concerns every one of us, and it really matters. Is there indeed a sin we treat as a virtue? Could this possibly be true of us, of me? Yes, there is a sin we are treating as a virtue. This sin is greed—sheer plain greed. Coveting. The comfortable, respectable, sin. But the extremely dangerous and damaging sin. It is condemned by the Tenth Commandment. It is the sin Christ spoke against more often and more vehemently than any other— he warned against it in the strongest possible terms: “Beware! Take care! Watch out!” It chokes the Word of God in your life, he said. It hinders a person entering the Kingdom of God and deprives them of eternal life. That is how serious it is. Paul said that greed is a form of idolatry and can destroy a person. He found this sin sneaky, tricky, and insidious. The risk to us from this sin is all the worse because it is so often not recognized as sin. It is so all-pervasive that we do not actually see its deceitful danger. But statistics show it is insidiously at work in the church, seriously affecting its work and witness in the world. It is a trap and a snare that can so easily catch us quite unawares. Breaking free of it is in fact one of the most difficult issues we face in our Christian lives. Can anything be done about this? Yes! It is crucial that we become aware of what the Bible says about it, and then think through how to live our lives in accordance with biblical teaching. This book will point to all the relevant Scriptures. Can you afford not to heed what they say? They just might save you from spiritual disaster. Don’t treat this lightly. Jesus didn’t. Paul didn’t.

We're told that the Bible is beautiful, uplifting and a joy to read - but, while we know this is how we're supposed to feel about it, in reality many of us find the very opposite. On opening the Bible, we are faced with a multitude of problems; from its form and historical content to its sheer size and often distasteful stories, we can be left feeling overwhelmed and disheartened. But the problem is not with the Bible - and it's not with us either. The problem is we've been misinformed. And so, we end up believing things about the Bible that the Bible never claims for itself. But the Bible won't politely sign up to the neat categories and terms we force on it. That's why it's badly behaved. We want to control the Bible and tame it so that we can ride it into battle; but the Bible bucks and rears and throws us off. We want to pin the Bible down so that it proves our theology; but the Bible evades capture and plays hide and seek. We want answers; but the Bible keeps firing questions. We want it to tell us what to do; but the Bible keeps telling us to think. We want to make the Bible dance to our tune: but the Bible has music of its own. The Bible is an invitation and a call. The breath of God lifts its pages, and they rise and fall with his breathing. In his honest and accessible style, Nick Page urges us to re-discover a fresh look at the Bible as the scriptural bedrock of the Christian faith, to learn how we can undo unhelpful ways of reading it and demystifying its purpose and scope. Nick tackles what the Bible is and what it isn't, how we can critically read this inspired text and how we approach the difficulties in its content. Alongside helpful analysis and practical advice - including kickstarting his one-man campaign to ban "Bible study" - Nick helps us re-discover how to rediscover the Bible as Holy Ground, as a place where we meet and encounter God.

They Never Told Me This In Church written by Greg S. Deuble and has been published by Restoration Fellowship this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Religion categories.

There is a consensus among many New Testament scholars that much of what the historical Jesus and his apostles taught has been submerged by an influx of post-biblical tradition. Subtle foreign influences, mostly from pagan Greek philosophy, which neither Jesus nor his first-century followers would recognize or endorse, have obscured the original Gospel as Jesus preached it. Most churchgoers accept without question, unbiblical traditions which they have never seriously investigated. In They Never Told Me This in Church! Greg Deuble invites the reader to a careful re-examination of ?the faith once delivered? in the light of the Hebrew heritage which formed the framework of all that Jesus taught in regard to himself and his Gospel mission. From the Foreword: ?This does not mean at all that Greg has given up faith in holy Scripture. Far from it. There is nothing trendy or gimmicky in his approach. Rather, he has learned to read the Bible from its own Hebrew perspective, and shedding a large quantity of traditional baggage has made the Bible all the more brilliant and telling. Because he is an honest student of truth, Greg has been rewarded...with unusual insight. He has a knack of getting to the heart of the issues. He has brought in a wealth of modern scholarly support for his argument, and the quotations gleaned from his wide reading are impressive. He adds a pleasing dose of Aussie humour to his writing while he invites us to re-examine all the major issues of biblical theology. The personal warmth of the author and his pastoral touch are evident in all he writes.?They Never Told Me This in Church! will inspire and challenge all who claim devotion to Jesus, and many who are searching for the meaning of his role in history. They will be enabled to read the Bible with new eyes! The confused state of divided Christendom in our time demands just such an honest and radical investigation.
